This is the best BBQ that I've had in a long time. I had the Pork Ribs. Perfect portion, 3 ribs, so juicy, fall off the bone. They didn't even need the additional sauces, but the sauces are so delicious! Coleslaw is so yummy! Not too sweet, just the right amount of vinegar to balance it out. The onion rings were so nice and crispy. They held their shape and had flavor to them rather than tasting like flour batter like other places. Overall, really awesome experience! And the people make it even better!

Hears the deal... I’m a tough customer, and I’m super critical on those who claim BBQ. ( Im a Portland chef, and a former top 3 finisher in a KCBS ribs in the mid-west division). I’m a Woodstock resident, and literally made my way around p-town BBQ spots before trying Reverend’s ( mostly because I work downtown). I’m embarrassed I haven’t been in till tonight. Let’s get into the business. I had a 1/2 rack of ribs, and they were superb, not fall off the bone, just pull off the bone clean (KCBS perfect). Not over sauced, just enough bark, great smoke penetration..... just mmmmm, levels of seasoning, fat reduction, smoke, time, and care! My son had the fried thighs. Let me say the word...... MOIST! Great herb and seasoning in the breading, and not greasy (they got all the skills at this place). Sides. I had the Mac-n-cheese. Creamy, noodles we not over done ( which is the case in most Mac sides) and the crisps on top set it off! I also had the BBQ beans. They were good, I think they could do better ( needed a little more fat, and less cooking in the beans , pretty mushy. But if order them again, the flavor was great). My son had the seasoned fries with his s chicken, and he destroyed them. Good choice in local beers, cocktail menu looked intriguing, and they offer a vegan smoked Tempeh, so I’ll be bringing my wife back for dinner soon. Well done Reverend’s, I’m a fan, and a new regular. Happy chef!!!!

I've had lots of BBQ but this is the best. The staff is friendly and accommodating and the service is excellent. Highly recommend. I had the Reverend Burger with the Burnt Brisket Ends, Mac and Cheese, and a frozen Margarita.

This is the best BBQ brisket I have had in Portland. ( I've had some holy Brisket in Texas) the creamed corn polenta and greens were "slap yo mama good"

I order the chopped brisket salad. To go. At least once every few weeks. Your ratio of brisket to piccalilli to pickled egg to white cheddar to romaine and dressing is perfection. I love it. I might want to marry it.

Fantastic place to get BBQ for a surprisingly reasonable price. During a nighttime walk in Sellwood, my partner and I got pretty hungry and scanned the area for somewhere nice to eat. We stumbled upon Reverend's and it was probably the best choice we could have made. They have high quality meats and sauces here. Even during dinner it's pretty easy to get an affordable meal for two people by sharing half a pound of meat with some sides. I would highly recommend the beef brisket. We also absolutely loved the banana pudding, and I'm personally someone who does not typically like fruit. Service was efficient and friendly, and the vibe of the place was casual but clean with a little bit of class. Great bang for your buck here and the quality of the food does not suffer at all.

Son enjoyed his chicken sandwich. The Mac n cheese with bbq was pretty good as well. Wasn’t the best ranch.

Reverend's was probably the best food I ate in Portland. I will rave about this BBQ forever. The pork ribs were fall off the bone succulent, the coleslaw impressed me with it's zippiness, and my brother loved the pork shoulder and the potato salad. The relish tray was a great addition because it was so fresh and acidic, it balanced out the bbq so well. Don't waste another minute looking for another place to eat, just go here.

Hush puppies were SO good! A whipped honey butter would have gone perfect with them. The brisket was flavourful; big portions. Also got a frozen bourbon blackberry lemonade which was excellent! Overall great place and friendly staff.

I know you’re here for the meat, which is excellent, but some sleep on the large house salad! Order a side of fried chicken and your taste buds will be in heaven. Kids menu is also fairly priced and amply portioned.

Good bbq spot. I'd recommend it. 4/5 The ribs were super tender. The smoky flavor of the ribs and the wings were top notch. The brisket was moist and flavorful. The appetizers were all good. Those hush puppies & deviled eggs were tasty! In addition, the banana pudding was well executed. It had the right amount of sweetness and the texture was smooth and not overly thick. The wait service was also friendly and attentive. The ribs were oversalted unfortunately. I have a salty palate and it was still quite noticeable. It undermined the great effort it took to smoke the ribs. All of the ribs on our plates didn't have this issue so this was either an anamoly or the seasoning may be inconsistent. The smoky chicken wings were stellar, but a bit small for the price point. To be fair, many restaurants have had difficulty getting chicken wings because of the supply chain issues so the ones we received may not be indicative of what is served during normal times. Finally, I was underwhelmed by my collard greens and mac and cheese. The latter felt both generic and pseudo-gourmet at the same time. Don't reinvent the wheel. We weren't fans. The collard greens were fair, but not bad. Overall, the quality of the appetizers, meats, and the banana pudding makes Reverend's a required stop. Personally, I'd highly recommend the ribs, brisket, wings, deviled eggs, hush puppies and dessert. There was also a HUGE delicious looking bbq salad at our table that lasted all of 60 seconds. Good stuff. 4/5.

Reverend’s is a great spot if you’re in town and in the mood for some BBQ. The service was great, and the food arrived fast. I had the brisket plate with an extra pork rib. The meat was tender and had a nice smoky flavor. The sides were all excellent and fresh, especially the BBQ beans. Interior of the restaurant was great and the staff were friendly. Definitely recommend a visit!

Went off a quick Google search for restaurants and BBQ struck our pallet. Easy to find, only street parking from what we could tell. Great service, our guy (who's name escapes me) was polite, friendly, attentive, and great either our 4 small kids. We found the food, for us, a bit hit or miss. None of us were great fans of the Mac and cheese- the kids weren't fans of the onions and we found it a bit one note. But you can order it to your liking, our server said. Chopped pork sandwich and the BBQ baked beans we also found, for as much as they had going on ingredients wise, to also be very one note; a depth of flavor we expected to be there just wasn't. However, the brisket sandwich and the polenta and ham side were EXCELLENT- rich, deep, and very satisfying in flavor. House made sauces and mustard on the table was also very good. Finished off with both desserts offered - strawberry shortcake and banana pudding, no complaints. The shortcake is big enough to share between kids, which is what we did. There was enough on the menu and the good stuff was definitely good enough to warrant a return visit. Great find for us on a whim to eat out.

Simply excellent, you must try the fried chicken and the brisket. The chicken is beautifully seasoned and prepared and brisket had great texture and moisture. All these came with great sauce as well. I simply cannot recommend this restaurant enough. The restaurant is a bit out of the way in East Portland, but for any barbecue fan, it is well worth a trip.

Just tried the fried chicken today and I was more than pleasantly surprised! The flavors of the crust were delicious and not greasy at all. I can’t remember the last time I had such good fried chicken. And from previous visits, the pork ribs are amazing.

Excellent food! Hush puppies, fried chicken and greens are all fabulous! They do get busy, so plan on waiting for a table if you don't get there early. Somewhat bad acoustics, but not terrible if you get a booth.

Have heard it can be hit and miss, food wise. I was pleasantly surprised. The brisket was delicious and they had a Ft. George Fresh Hop on tap, which was absolutely amazing. They accommodated our group of 12 and even made individual payments easy for all of us.

Stayed in an Airbnb in the area and this place was recommended. We ordered take out and the service and timing were prompt, just as we had requested! The brisket and pork shoulder were terrific and we really enjoyed the variety of sauces. The grilled polenta didn't live up to the hype for us, tasty but not special, same with the mac and cheese. The wedge salad though was perfect! Portions were generous.

The food at this place was great. Went as a group of four and had the full rack of ribs, so meaty and tasty. I liked the sauce on the ribs and what was offered at the table. I also got the reverend burger, which was made with burnt ends sooooooo good, it also had pimento cheese, pickles, and fried onion stings on it. That burger was amazing. And the fries that came with the burger were crunchy, has a nice saltiness to them but not over powering. The sliced brisket was juicy and the Mac and cheese was great. This place is awesome, friendly staff clean environment and I loved the touch of having a full paper towel roll on the wall next to each table. You can't have ribs with out a full stack of paper towels. Will highly recommend, and will be going back again. 10 out of 10.
