A great experience. It was expensive. However, the food, drinks, service, and recommendations were all excellent. My only gripe was maybe the warm and bass rich sound system made it difficult to hear the wait staff when they were making recommendations and naming and describing ingredients I'd never heard of. The background music was nice but maybe needs to be turned down or have the frequencies adjusted so customers can hear the hard working staff!

Wow! This was my first time at a place like this. It’s a Korean/Japanese fusion restaurant. The food was amazing. The atmosphere was so romantic and beautiful. Our server was so nice and knowledgeable about everything. Keep in mind, it is very pricey, but the presentation of all their food and drinks is phenomenal. Definitely not only paying for food, but the experience as well.

Service was fantastic. Nice atmosphere, but the tables are a bit close together so it's easy to hear others conversations. The food was a bit inconsistent. Some dishes were fantastic and others were just okay. The four drinks were had from the bar looked amazing. Fantastic presentation, but as far as taste, they didn't quite work.

Would be 5 stars if it was priced a little more reasonably. I can't begrudge them too much as the service is absolutely outstanding and they've created a great atmosphere. However, the food still feels a tad overpriced for what it is. Also, there are several dishes where they try to get a little too fancy and it doesn't improve the dish (though it makes for good presentation). Service - 5 stars: My wife and I came here for dinner on a Friday night with a reservation. We were seated right away and actually arrived with about 15 minutes left for happy hour. Our server came to us quickly to see if we wanted to sneak in any orders on the happy hour menu which was very nice and definitely stood out. They were amazing at checking in on us for drinks, refills, clearing plates, and seeing if they could get us anything. I know some might not appreciate this, but I thought it was great and we never had to flag anyone down. Our server was also very familiar with the full menu and made some great recommendations. Food - 4-5 stars (depending on the dish): We started off with the Salmon Tacos which were fantastic. Probably one of my favorite dishes we had all night. Great balance of flavors. They were fresh and bright with a great mix of textures. We followed up the tacos with a half dozen oysters. We both love oysters and these were great quality. I forget what they were but the stand out part of the oysters was the wasabi cocktail sauce and green apple mignonette. We got a selection of Nigiri which was some of the best quality fish we've found in Portland (and we've been looking for the best fish here for over 2 years). The only down side of the Nigiri was how many toppings they added. They didn't really add much and would have enjoyed just the fish undressed. They use real fresh wasabi which always adds to the flavor. ABURI SAKE NIGIRI (torched salmon belly w/ truffle): Amazing cut of Salmon but the truffle didn't add much. It wasn't bad with it, but for the price I would have preferred just the salmon. WAGU NIGIRI: Not the best Wagyu I've had but they did a good job on the sear. The fold leaf on top didn't add anything aside from make for a cool picture. SAKE NIGIRI: We enjoyed the salmon so much we wanted to try it undressed. They still insisted on putting a dab of some sauce on top. I don't recall what it was, but would have liked it better without it. We also ordered the CRISPY BRUSSELS SPROUTS (kimchi vinaigrette). We really like the gochujang brussels sprouts from South Park and thought this might be similar. While definitely a little different flavor, the cook on these was excellent and the flavor was less overpowering than the gochujang ones from South Park. Very enjoyable and I would recommend them. For our main course we shared the King Crab Fried Rice (I think it was a special). Overall it was quite good, however I don't think the king crab actually added a lot to it. The dish as a whole had a lot of flavor and the king crab just felt like an afterthought instead of being incorporated in with the balance of everything else. We still enjoyed it but wouldn't order it again. For dessert they gave us their SUSHI ICE CREAM as it was our anniversary. It was pretty good but nothing all that amazing. It was basically a rice crispy treat wrapped ice cream. It was good, but I wouldn't choose it. We also ordered the DARK CHOCOLATE MELTDOWN CAKE. It was very rich and great if you love chocolate. I could have used a tiny bit more ice cream with it, but that's just personal preference. Drinks - 4-5 stars: Another case of pricing vs quality. I started off with the WHAT’S THE MATCHA. Great drink and very refreshing. A little overpriced normally but I got it off the happy hour menu so I felt it was worth it. It was like a very elevated gin and tonic. After that we mainly drank Sake. We are big fans of Dassai sake (23, 39, or 45). This was the first time we'd seen a Dassai Nigori so we got a bottle after tasting a glass. If you ever want to bring a bottle be prepared for a ~$50 corkage fee.

The food is amazing here and the place looks great after the remodel. We tried a ton of stuff but interestingly the crispy brussel sprouts were the most memorable. Everything was great, but just blown away by how delicious they made the brussel sprouts taste. Staff was polite, friendly, patient and accommodating.

We ordered Dynamite, chef’s special nigiri, dassai 39, nightshade, Tokyo fashion,Seoul, maguro foie gras, kimchee fried rice, kfc, pork sticky ribs, 10 oz grilled ribeye, Hamachi crudo, creme brulee, bingsu. All the dishes tasted perfect. Kimchi fried rice could have been better. The staff was very welcoming and greeted well. This was one of my favourite fine dining experiences in Portland. Ambience was just perfect and we found the parking quickly too. Very well maintained restaurant😍😍

The atmosphere and staff are first class. The food is either WOW or Meh. The drinks are delicious and picture perfect. Come for the gram. The japchae and spicy edamame are amazing. The charred broccoli was worth the visit alone. The steaks both had a chewy gristle that was hard to eat. They were both cooked to perfection, though. The sushi ice cream was delicious in its simplicity.

The price wasn’t worth it for the amount of food we get. We keep ordering more food and we were still hungry lol. The servers were really attentive and nice. They always make sure our water is filled. The sushi were okay (not the best I had). They gave us free mochi dessert for our anniversary gift.

Every singe experience at Janken has been beyond our expectations. The restaurant is beautiful, but most importantly the food is exquisite; always colorful and delicious. There is something for EVERYONE from small sharing dishes like the crispy Brussels sprouts and the kanpachi crudo to the colossal caviar and famous seafood platter. You cannot miss the miso black cod or the steak tartare, their sushi is fresh and delicious. The ribeye and the Peking duck are memorable, most dishes come with little accoutrements to enhance the flavor of the proteins. The cocktails are fun and delicious as well, highly recommend the Seoul and the Pineapple Express; ask about their premium sake selection, it’s truly delightful. Service is always impeccable and friendly.

This was an amazing meal. It’s probably 4.5 stars but since that’s not an option, we’re bumping it up to 5. The ambience is spectacular. The service was almost perfect. The food was immaculate with the exception of the hamachi crispy rice, which was a little too fishy for us. They also forgot our Peking duck, but we were pretty full anyway so it wasn’t a big deal. It’s pricey, but sometimes you get what you pay for. The sticky ribs, mushroom tempura, and king crab were all to die for.

Janken is a new favorite spot. Everything on the menu is fantastic! Some stand outs are the sticky ribs, caviar, kimchi fried rice, duck, miso cod, and the bingsu dessert! Also amazing cocktails!!! Service is the best you’re gonna find in any Portland restaurant.

JANKY VENTILATION & VALUE Thank goodness you can get a small discount on this INCREDIBLE food from 5-6 for their happy hour. The grub on the HH menu and discounted cocktails can get some full bellies for a fair price, but we came for the main event and let ourselves indulge in the amazing menu. COCKTAILS Top notch in quality, but $21 for a cocktail is INSANE. I loved the presentation for the old fashioned and the Pineapple Express. Very fun! STUFFY DINING ROOM We sat their sweating in our nice window seat wondering why a “high-end” restaurant hasn’t figured out how to maintain a comfortable temperature or reasonable amount of ventilation in their dining room. The tables next to us also noted being uncomfortable and it added a degree of unpleasantry to our evening we hadn’t expected. OVERPRICED DISHES Some of the plates are reasonableish in price, but many are ridiculously expensive with little to show for it. The half duck for $65 is silly, but it’s perfectly prepared and makes this duck-hesitant diner wanting more at a lower price point. HIGHLIGHTS Special King Crab Fried Rice: Sort of a dol sot situation and we loved the crispy rice. The amount of crab in our dish was sparse IMO. Brussels Sprouts were unique and delicious. I would not order the softshell crab bao again. Will we be back? Maybe…

The drinks were delicious and the presentation was beautiful. I LOVE the night owl cocktail. Definitely one of the BEST dining experiences I have had and could not recommend this restaurant enough. I would and will be coming again, absolutely! The menu has so much variety and the food presentation was spectacular. Portland has been in need of a restaurant concept like this for a long time. Janken hands down delivers in all categories from the food, location and decor. Oh and the ambiance and the whole vibe it just sets to an elevated experience. Highly recommend to plan ahead and get a reservation for any celebration that comes to mind you will not be disappointed.

My dining experience at Janken was exceptional from start to finish. The ambiance drew me in with its captivating warmth, while the impeccable service made the evening extraordinary. The meat was cooked to perfection, the sushi rolls, steak tartare, lobster rolls, and desserts, were all absolutely exquisite. The kanpachi crudo and ribs were both exceptional highlights. Without a doubt, highly recommended.

Beautiful restaurant with plenty of energy. The service was attentive. Cocktails and sake were good. Small and large plates were excellent with the wagyu and cod being stars. The bill is not inexpensive and 20% is added, but this seems like a good addition to the Portland food scene.
