Always our favorite place in Vancouver and Portland to get sushi. Great ambience, friendly and professional staff, and sushi is always consistently good every time. Don’t forget to get a drink with Jay when you’re there! Cheers.
For sure some of the best sushi I’ve had in town. Went with a group of friends so we all got to try a good amount of the menu. Service was great and she gave fantastic recommendations.
Highlights: boneless wings, sake
Really enjoyed the food here, I was looking specifically for a yellow tail collar, and they had it on the menu so we showed up. The food was really delicious, fresh and well presented. The ramen was good, the roll was fantastic, and the yellowtail collar did not disappoint. Restaurant was a little cluttered in the corner where we sat and the place could use a good dusting a lot of the surfaces and decorations were full of dust bunnies. All in all a great experience
Everything was so good! The fatty tuna was my favorite of the dishes. It just melts in your mouth along with the rice. Great selection of sake as well.
Awsome sushi place, top notch service and a great atmosphere. Highly recommend stopping in.
A very solid place for sushi and ramen. We consistently have great food and service at Yama and even better is they recognize us and welcome us back.
Any of the ramen choices are excellent but I like the Kimchi Ramen with an egg, butter, and scallions. Perfect on a rainy or chilly night.
The sushi is also great. We have never had anything other than very fresh sushi even when we were one of the last tables being served before closing. My husband is more adventurous than I am but we both enjoy all of the sushi we have had. I really love the Buddha which is tempura fried veggies wrapped in rice. A nice change of pace. My other have swears by the salmon sushi (in all its manifestations).
Service is friendly and efficient and plates are cleared quickly. They also have a comprehensive sake menu but we haven't partaken as of yet.
Parking is on street, so you may have to walk a bit, but it is worth it.
Thanks, Yama! We look forward to our next visit.
I had really good company here so this place leaves a fond memory for me... just a little bias. I been here 4-5x and each time was good. It is in inner SE so parking is harder. Be expected to walk anywhere from 3-8 blocks.
Japanese uni is creamy and delicious. It is very rich so probably could/should eat 4 max. The sake flight was nice. I liked the last one, it was more fruity and light.
The fish here is fresh with no fishy taste at all! A good place to introduce your friends to sushi!
Salmon collar was good! Wagyu skewers were a little underwhelming ( decent cause this is portland... had better ones in Bellevue)
This place gets popular so expect a wait, best for groups under 4. There are more tables upstairs. Two gender neutral bathrooms.
Pretty much a positive experience with one critical exception. 2 pieces of pricey Uni nigiri didn’t arrive until after we d eaten a bunch of fried Izakaya fare.
Maybe I’m wrong, but I can’t imagine this happening in Japan. The fresh, raw fish should be served first, with the pickles perhaps. But definitely before tainting my palate with deep fried and grilled items.
Short wait, kind and informative staff, and great food! Japanese tapas is one of my favorite cuisines, and this didn’t disappoint. Super fresh flavors and very reasonable prices for the quality of food.
Wonderful vibe from the moment we walked in! Good sized menu and the sake selection is one of the best I’ve seen in Portland. Service✅, Food✅, Atmosphere✅ all on point! Mahalo Yama Sushi & Izakaya! 🤙🏽
