Loved the mushroom ravioli, great sauce!! Husband had scampi fettucine- Top Notch, great flavor!!
This is one of the best true value italian restraunts.
They make everything fresh from scratch. Great view.
Layed back . only place i know you can take a date to and they come out and sairnade you by violin. Talk about true romance. I have been a loyal customer for over 40 years. My family since they first open there doors in the 1940's this is a place that gets past down from generation to generation. And there fettuccine Alfredo is to die for.
First time patrons and everything was great. I would rate it at 5 starts. Clean and staff and owner was friendly and attentive. Food was wonderful.
I thought I would surprise my friend with a birthday dinner at your restaurant. Neither one of us had ever eaten there and to our surprise, its now one of our favorite restaurants in town.
The service was beyond belief and the food when better. The owner come over to our table to say hello and offered a discount card as a gift for my friends b-day. I would recommend this Authentic Italian Cafe to anyone who looking for home style Italian food.
One of my favorites-authentic, both staff & food! I prefer the Bar, which could be described as cozy, but to those who can't get a table, damn small & fills up fast - very old school feel, & great happy hour menu too!
Fabulous food, service and atmosphere !!
Spaghetti cabonara is the best in town!!
Always a great experience. Great Italian food in a comfortable setting. Warm cozy bar.
My wife and I went for our anniversary dinner and it was fantastico! The bruccetta was excellent, wine was perfect for dinner and dinner itself was excellenté
I sort of hate to give them the raving review they deserve, because I want to be able to get in on a regular basis. I'm a second generation Italian, and eating here is like eating at Grandma's. Love, love, love it, just don't want the secret out.
This offer's a terrific environment, nice view and GREAT Food!! Tonight we had a pizza and a pasta dish with the homemade meatballs! It truly was a great meal for all! Thanks and we will be back!
Great service.. great food. Owners always working and making sure all is great. We will be back
We absolutely love this place! Saw it from the road and just *knew* we had to check it out. The food is top-notch, the service is fantastic, and it just feels like home! We'll be back. Definitely a new favorite! (I've already picked the next dish to try.) Five stars and wish I could give more!
The food is always good and there is such a great variety.
Wow! Amazing Italian food and hand crafted drinks. Our server was amazing.
Wow! I couldn't love this restaurant any more! The atmosphere is sophisticated and yet familiar, cozy and inviting! The outdoor deck seating in an early Fall evening was glorious! The food is upscale yet traditional and truly authentic Italian fare! Simple ingredients prepared to perfection! Such a culinary delight! I am gluten free and had one of the best meals I've ever had! The staff were kind, professional and attentive. The chef substituted veggies for the pasta and I couldn't have been happier! If you're in Portland, you must visit this historic Italian gem!
My lady found this place and hails from Italy so we went to check out the food. There is very little proper parking here and the little lot they have was full so you will have to find street parking in the adjacent neighborhood so I'm glad we were driving her car. We came into the place from the Barbour side and you walk through the restaurant and go down some stairs to the host station. Not sure how folks in wheelchairs navigate the place. Now, to the food. My lady loved it and I thought the food was great but since I've never been to Italy, my opinion does not count as much as hers. For dessert we had the Tiramsu and for dinner I had the scallops and pasta plate that the table next to me recommended and I ate it all. Prior to dinner, we had antipasto plate. One thing I really liked was the time between appetizer and dinner. Some places, you barely finish your appetizer and the main course is already coming out so there was plenty of time between. For drinks, I had a Manhattan and Old Fashion and my lady had some compari drink (uh yuck).
Caro Amico serves the Italian-American comfort food I love from growing up on the East Coast. Excellent cocktails and great essential Italian wines at a great price. Caro is filled with the joyful vibe of great memories repeated over many years for many people. It’s a landmark, independently owned Portland restaurant that’s not to be missed. Stop in for dinner today to experience the magic!
Caro Amico has always been a classy dine-in restaurant, for decades. Don't be a cheapskate, don't take food to go, and don't leave ignorant reviews.
Was glad to see they'd reopened and stopped in yesterday. Excellent food, excellent attentive service and a good value for a quality experience. Thank you Angela 😊
This treasure is not to be confused or compared to an Olive Garden. Capiche!
If you used to love Caro Amico and haven't been back in since the re-opening, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? It's such a great, traditional, Italian restaurant with incredible food and service. The owner, Elsie, is a treasure in the Portland restaurant scene who truly loves this business, and it shows in everyone working there. I went last night with my wife and daughter, and we had a wonderful time. It felt like a refreshed version of what it's always been: a cozy, friendly place where the staff cares about every diner and the food shows it.
Haven’t been to Caro Amico since it reopened after the fire. Everything was amazing, we had all our favorite dishes. Excellent service.
I'm so happy that they are back open. Same great food and attentive friendly staff. This place has been a tradition with my friends for years. I will be back. Sat in the bar on this visit and had some great happy hour small plates and then they switched to a full menu in the bar. We had full entrees and thoroughly enjoyed our visit
Stop trying to find that Italian Restaurant in Portland. Why not try where my Dad and my uncle went to for years. Thank God you re opened and have fabulous food with the quiet neighborhood atmosphere. Your the start of Italian row down to St. Michael’s before they whipped our neighborhood clean.
Thank you so much for keeping our culture going with exquisite food true to who we are!
IT'S BACK OPEN!!! I'm here on opening night! So classy and yet a wonderful home-like feeling. Best Italian food in town, By far. The staff is very pleasing to be around. This place is a gem, this is one place I will be frequenting for the rest of my life. What a treat.
My family and I had a lovely meal at Caro Amico this evening. There were a couple hiccups with a drink order and an appetizer, but they immediately made it right and ended up comping the drink. Our waiter was very friendly and responsive and the food was fresh and very good.
However, one waiter soured the experience a bit. We had just gotten our appetizers served but our waiter hadn't taken entree orders yet, so we still had our menus. There wasn't a lot of extra room on the table, so I had stashed my menu under the plate on which I had the appetizer. I will grant you, it was a saucy appetizer, so could a spill have happened? Sure. Even so, what happened next seemed completely unwarranted.
A waiter (not ours, who was lovely) who was serving other tables in the vicinity seemed to think that my menu was in imminent danger and took it upon herself to come over and remove it from under my plate, announcing tersely that they only had a limited amount of menus and didn't want this one to be damaged. And I can understand that. I don't want to wantonly destroy the restaurant's property with an accidental spill. Unlikely, since I'm not a toddler, but possible. Things cost money. I get that. I'm all about preserving resources. But this person's attitude is what really made it an unfortunate interaction. She reacted to my menu being under my plate in much the same way she might have reacted to someone holding a lighter to the corner of a rare and precious manuscript: with disgust that anyone could be so careless and deliberately destructive.
C'mon.
If you want to approach me and be like, "Hey, so sorry to interrupt, but could I ask you to move your menu to the side of the table? We're a little short with copies and we'd have to toss that one if it were spilled on. Thanks so much!" I might have thought it was a little weird to be that protective, but I would have complied with a smile and not given it a second thought. However, this sour-faced person chastising me like a child was unnecessary and, frankly, rude. No thanks.
Check the attitude and treat people with consideration, and hopefully they'll return the favor.
It's actually six stars all the way down except for the fact that the food is better than the excellent service and atmosphere. It is a place that feels like it's out of a movie. I cannot think of many places that I felt so almost spiritually moved. My inner core just felt so different. When I saw that they were closed it was kind of heartbreaking actually. I don't come here often, it's kind of a special place so I don't want it to be too common for me it might wreck the specialness. I keep waiting for these people to open back up and hope not much has changed. Perhaps, perhaps it will change but I will go see for myself. I do want to tell the Proprietors as well as the staff I am really awaiting this. It's not like I have giant expectations I'm just going to take it as it comes and enjoy every bite. Thank you for creating this one off kind of a brilliant restaurant. Time to get back to sleep
Great food, service was absolute. If you see the matron give her thanks because the employees are great and the food is all inspiringly good. Bartender was way friendly, and when the patrons waited to see i was friendly with staff and the matron they became chatty. You can tell there is family in this place.
Absolutely fantastic food, setting, music, and ambiance. Very VERY good food on there menu. Great place to come to with friends or with ANYONE I think.
Thanks VERY much Caro Amico Italian Cafe! 🙂
The service at Cara Amico's was reminiscent of a bygone era, attentive and personalized. The staff's knowledge of the menu and the establishment's storied history added an extra layer of enjoyment to our visit.
We ate at Caro Amico's last night & it was excellent. They don't take reservations yet, so arrive early (4 pm is about right to enjoy drinks & appetizers then eat dinner around 6. They are still ramping up and prepare most food to order). The pomodoro bruscetta is a star.must order, as usual. The mix grill with stuffed ravioli and shrimp scampi are out of this world. Service was friendly and good - a little slow due to the number of diners and ramp up but they are open about the situation and will continue to improve. The manager walks around and checks.
(They only accept dine in now I believe - best to check if you are interested in take out or delivery)
Great place to celebrate whatever occasion! Very romantic. My partner's parents came here for their wedding anniversary for many years and we are carrying on that tradition.
Excellent food, service and dining experience! So great to be back at Caro Amico. The staff was excellent and energized to be serving hungry customers.
