This place is classy enough for a date but priced right for a casual meal too. We get takeout here at least once a month and the quality and presentation never disappoints. Lots of vegetarian gluten free and vegan options as well... oh and brown rice! Highly recommended if you are looking for yummy Thai food on Hawthorne!

Came here for a birthday dinner/date - could not have picked a better place! The staff were all courteous and engaging, as well as fun to talk to and very knowledgeable about the menu. We got honey ginger tea which was amazing, and the fried rice and khao soy were absolutely amazing. The restaurant is beautiful, with a great atmosphere and thoughtful decorations. Though neither of us have special food restrictions, the staff were very thoughtful and offered vegan and gluten-free options and took the time to discuss allergens with us. An amazing experience!

The food and service were amazing! Attentive service with hot towels brought to the table and great drinks/appetizers. We got there on a soup special day so they brought us some sampler soups that tasted great! I got pad thai and it was really good, as well as gluten free, so my mom could eat it too. It feels very high-end and the prices are reasonable considering how good the food is!

At first the menu is a little overwhelming. Almost too many choices. But since the entrees are so large I got a curry dish and convinced my hubby to get noodles and then we could share. They ask how spicy you want each dish which is nice. The pineapple curry was great. The sweet pineapple balanced great with the heat of the curry. Hubby's noodle dish (I forget which one he got) had the most tender scallops I have had in ages. The prices were a little high, but the servings were big so I didn't feel like they were overpriced. Definitely want to go back to try more curries. The decor and plating felt too fancy for the food. But overall, good stuff.

Five stars all the way. The service was fast, efficient, and friendly. I loved the food presentation, it looked balanced and clean. As great as my meal looked, it tasted so much better! Perfect amount of spice for my white-boy mouth (you choose spice level). The portions were healthy and my left overs were just as amazing. Will definitely revisit.

This is my wife and my favorite Thai restaurant. I have been coming here since they opened about eight years ago. The red curry is truly exceptional food. The environment and service are also both exceptional. Everything about this restaurant is distinguished and set apart from - and above - the competition. The negative reviews here seem to describe some other restaurant altogether. They do not jive with my own experiences at all.

Awesome, awesome food. I'm not an eggplant guy, but their stir fry eggplant dish was out of this world. Great service by the business owners, who work in the restaurant. Surprisingly reasonable prices given the restaurant's location. Great cocktails from the bar as well. Highly recommended.

Don't mistaken this bistro with another Thai restaurant (on Belmont with the same name)
Staff is friendly. Food is delicious, spiced to order. The menu is descriptive. Japanese sake is on the wine list. Parking is right in front by the street.
Advice: (1) curry dishes are very good. The 3 scoops of rice is not enough to enjoy the curry sauce. You need to order a bowl of rice as a side. (2) Recommended chicken, seafood or tofu instead of beef because Thai beef is always over cooked and become dry. (3) Don't miss the sticky rice with mango.

I have my favorites from Vancouver to Medford, My Thai Bistro ranks in the number one spot for me, flavor is so unique my palate was surprised!
I mix my own drinks @ home and am usually disappointed with most places, but here, there old fashioned was so balanced I savored it rather than shoot it down. Kudos, bravo!

I've been coming here for years, and not once have I been served a dish that was less than satisfactory. Great staff and owner, and amazing food to match the beautiful ambiance. I recommend it! Try the curry with kabocha squash...make it spicy! I order a 10 or 11 on their spice scale. š

Love the food here. The wait staff not only care about you but they care about the restaurant in general. You would think they are all invested owners.
Since going to this Thai restaurant, I really haven't liked going to other other Thai food restaurants.
See you there again tonight!

We were in a bit of a rush or we would have sat and enjoyed a bit, that being said, the food was delicious! The service was friendly and accommodating and the decor was very pleasant. I will definitely go here again next time I'm in Portland.

I love this place - its my favorite!
The veggies and meat are fresh and cooked beautifully. In addition - the staff is always friendly and accommodating. I go here several times a month!

Food is great. Nice quiet dining. Offer a lot of celiacs safe free meals, prepared and cooked in separate areas.
I like this thai restaurant... I like the decor, I like the menu, I like the location, and what I love is the presentation.... I knew when the satay arrived at the other table across the isle that our firecracker shrimp was going to be good and it was... I had the special which was a whole mango curry with scallops which also came with an exquisite salad. My daughter had the pad thai, the classic dish that is always a good choice and bottom line k My Thai Bistro was a great choice for dinner.

This place is amazing. The best thai food I have had. The service and staff are friendly and welcoming. The pot stickers are to die for. They cook to order so it is fresh so if you are in a hurry or impatient try another place but you will be missing out.

Terrible Service, Luke - warm food. I came in, drawn by the delicious smell, to have dinner at 6 on a Friday night. I was (gasp!!!) alone. Got shuffled all over, at the " bar" , finally got seated at one of the 6 empty tables about 20 minutes later. Service was rude and minimal, food was bland and barely warm, which i might have mentioned, had anyone bothered to check in with me. Had the distinct feeling that even after spending 40 dollars on food, I was a huge inconvenience.

Best Thai food in town!. Got to say I'm really surprised to see mixed rating reviews of this restaurant. I suppose when you run a restaurant business chances are some people will like it and some people won't. Personally this is my favorite Thai restaurant in Portland. I frequently travel internationally for work and have had lots of Thai food through the years and been to many, many Thai restaurants all over the world, especially in Bangkok. My Thai Bistro definitely is my one of first choices for Thai food in Portland.

I'm sure we all have our likes and dislikes and what not when it comes to restaurants and eating out but personally my dinning experiences at My Thai Bistro have always been very pleasant. The food there has always been the best Thai food I ever had and the service has always been superb! Sure, customers are always right but it takes both the restaurant staff and the customers efforts to make a wonderful dinning experience for everyone.

Passive-aggressively tasty. Was it because we came in two hours before close? Was it because I was tired and lazy and just wanted crab cheese pillows? Was it because my friend/date asked (twice, after it was not received the first time) specifically for 'tepid' water? Was it because, shortly after arrival, I repeated the Boy Funk lines 'Bend over, touch my toes/that line's goin' straight up my nose'? I couldn't say. All I know is that shortly after we received our food and were continuing to make innocuous conversation, mainly about spices frequently found in Thai food, we became aware that the waitstaff - every member, individually, three of them - had been instructed to hurry us out. We were asked repeatedly (by a different person, each time) whether we wanted dessert. We'd intended to stay on and have a glass of wine, but by the second time we were nervously interrupted our minds had quite been changed. The food was very delicious (we said to each other as loudly as we dared; and my friend even complimented who I assume was the manager - I noticed she was the one whispering to her waitstaff to encourage us to leave) and the service prompt and quite polite. We were certainly not the only ones left in the place by any means, but we were the only ones pointedly encouraged to leave. It was all rather odd and very sad. Our check was delivered without our request. We left about 45 minutes before close.

Problems at Precious Pallace. This was one of those experiences where you are, (for whatever reason) turned off immediately by a place and say to the person sitting across from you "we can still leave, before she comes back with our waters". But instead, you play it out. Unfortunately for us, thats exactly what we did. To start, I have never been to a Thai restaurant that panders so profusely to the precious whitey in all my years. Service was just plain awkward. Its hard to explain but generally when in an ethnic restaurant, being served by someone of the same ethnicity as what food you are dining in for lends a bit of authenticity to the place. The 3 super smiley gringos came across as programmed androids. Being asked what "protein" I would like with my Curry left me feeling like I was in a laboratory, not a restaurant. When I was asked if I had any food allergies I knew we had come to the wrong place. My wife was grinning at me all the way. Still, if the food was good we could chalk it up to experience for a laugh later on. I saw the gal on her way with our Thai iced Teas and they looked like they were 3 feet tall. In addition to being in super skinny, tall glasses (read: 8 oz, or half the amount of what most places give you for less money) they pull the clear plastic straw cover almost all the way up, for what I am guessing to be flair (Yay!! FUN!! Says some ding-dong somewhere) and also to relieve any doubts one might have that their straw may have been touched by human hands. (Could you imagine?! GroSS!!). Anyhow, they were far too sweet, almost undrinkably so. Our food arrives and so it goes, we are given.... thats right, you guessed it: chop sticks. THAIS DO NOT USE CHOPSTICKS. (whats next; fortune cookies?) Moving on, among the few simple things you expect in a good Curry are fresh, crunchy Veggies. Mine were all pulverized mush. The mushiest I have ever been served, anywhere. The Curry itself was more like a sauce, and less like a soup, as far as consistency goes. Their heat scale reads: "1-5 American Spicy, 6-10 Thai Spicy" Mama said Im a big boy now so I ordered an 8. It tasted like a 4. So theres another fail. The amount of chicken was at least generous but at that point I was over it.
Across the table my wife was rummaging through her Noodle dish which she had ordered because it was advertised as being served at room temperature. On a 90+ degree day like it was, that sounded just right to her. But of course it came to the table steaming. And we had no problem figuring out what was steaming, it was the noodles, which, like my veggies, were pulverized mush. Her 'protein' (We'll call it Tofu for all you normal folk out there) not only looked exactly like miniature pieces of French Toast, but tasted like french toast as well. It was way too crispy.
I can live with some pretentious, precious atmosphere for 30 minutes of my life, but not bad food. And thats what this was. There were a couple of guys sitting next to us, but outside, and the look on one guys face when his plate came was Kodak worthy. I couldnt hear the conversation but he was obviously asking the girl what she had brought him. She had to come inside and get another one of the servers to go explain it to him. A few minutes later, as we passed by him on the way to our car, we could see that he had left his food untouched. I wish we had been wise enough to do the same. Do yourself a favor, cross the street and walk a couple blocks down to Chiang Mai, where the atmosphere is relaxed and warm and the food is both authentic and delicious.
Grade: F (there is, no doubt, a market for the kind of pampering atmosphere you are going for. But the market for lousy food is marginal)

Great Food, Even Better Service. The minute you walk into this restaurant you're greeted by some of the sweetest and most sincere waitresses I've ever come across. They seat you promptly (I usually go for lunch, it's practically empty) and bring your drinks and samples of their soups. This place is extremely considerate of their vegan/vegetarian customers, I was informed of any animal ingredients before I could even ask. When they hear you're choosing veggies over protein, they ask all the right questions to make sure your dish is safe to eat. They also know how to make a dish wonderfully spicy but in a way that leaves you able to taste the ingredients. In a sea of apathetic Portland servers, I've only had spectacular service here and it keeps me coming back.

Fantastic food and spectacular service! Best coconut shrimp that I have ever had! I would highly reccomend this restaurant!!!

Large portions for lunch. Good quality and competitively priced.

Hands Down Best Thai Food in Portland!. Best Thai Food in Portland by far, I have tried them all and always keep coming back here for more! Never have ate anything bad here!

Good food/service but smaller portions. The service was wonderful, the soup samples were fantastic, the food was tasty however the portions were smaller than what i am used to for Thai food. Usually I can order one entree, share it with someone and still have leftovers. Both me and my friend were still hungry after sharing one of My Thai Bistro's meals. Although it was good I think i'll keep looking.

First is the worst...second is the best?. I tried this place out for the first (maybe only) time this evening, after having been curious for a while. I was hoping it might be a new favorite, closer to home. I had no problem with the service, though it did feel a bit forced. My server nearly ran out of breath when describing the specials. Overall they were friendly, attentive and accommodating of the problems I voiced about the meal. The ambiance is showy and unnecessary, as is the plate presentation. It seemed as though the chef cares more about how the food looks than how it tastes. The food was not as well prepared as I have had at other Thai restaurants in town, lacking in flavor. Also, if you like to feel the heat in your Thai food ask for your heat off the scale of 1-10.... my 8 was more like a zero.

Food great!! Service the worst I have had in years. Waiter pushed all the alcohol although I tried to make it clear I don't drink. When he brought my main dish he wanted me to move the dirty dishes so he could set it down . Had to ask for my bill so I could pay it. Was never asked how the meal was. Waiter insisted I walk to back of restaurant to settle bill instead of bringing it to me. Rude and unhelpful. Too bad, because the food is actually good. But I won't be back if this is the level of service offered. There are several Thai places on Hawthorne where both the service and the food are great.

Beautiful place, nice people, delicious food. I really enjoy this place. The food is pretty consistent. Plus they don't use fish sauce in most of their dishes, unlike most other places in town. Even the others I've tried that say their Pad Thai is vegan, you can smell the fish sauce, let alone taste it right away. Someone else posted that they had "runny pad thai" here. I doubt it. I've never experienced this, and I eat here a lot. Like, a lot. Pad Thai is one of my favorites.

This place is super careful about food allergies, which I appreciate. They can make almost everything on their menu gluten-free, as long as I remind them when I order. Nice wine selection, too. Their tom kha is actually all coconut milk, no dairy (also rare, I've noticed). Very authentic northern Thai.

I can't wait for summer when they have lovely outdoor seating available--great for people watching. I've been consistently happy with everything about this place.

P.S.
My waitress said they're probably going to try a happy hour starting this summer. I'm also super-excited about that! Anyone who goes here, please ask about it to encourage them!

Really bad Pad Thai. The appearance of this restaurant and the service is exceptional. The coconut milk based soup was very delicious. But if I can't count on the most basic Thai dish to be decent, there's really no point in returning. This was the worst example of Pad Thai noodles I've ever experienced in an actual Thai food restaurant. It was hauntingly similar to the atrocious "Thai Noodles" I experienced recently at the Portland City Grill. But I just chalked that up to me ordering Thai food in a non-Thai establishment. My bad. But My Thai Bistro, is not My Thai restaurant of choice. For the best Pad Thai noodles in town, try Thai Spoon at Hawthorne/14th.

My favorite Thai Restaurant in Portland Area. I have eaten at My Thai on several occasions and have completely enjoyed everything I have tried. The presentation of the food is done very nicely. I like the dishware and cutlery that as well. The owner seems to be very nice and other staff are very attentive and happy to serve you.

I would highly recomend this restaurant... :)

The worst Thai restaurant in Portland?. This is by far the worst place I have eaten Thai food at in Portland. The Phad Thai was disgusting and runny, and the other dishes we had did not taste like good Thai food should. It was extremely un-authentic, and tasted like somebody just through together some ingredients without a recipe.
To top that off, the service was painstakingly slow. The mixed drinks were very weak and overpriced
I was really disappointed
There are so many other wonderful Thai restaurants in Portland, I don't know how this one is still in business.

Answer the phone. I would love the try the Urban Spoon but unfortunately they don't answer their phone for takeout orders. Also, it rings and then goes to a generic voicemail telling me to "record a message to 503-230.....), Ugh, they cannot even personalize their phone system.

Mixed Emotions. Great food. Disjointed, and horribly slow service. Cocktails are overpriced and not well mixed. Disappointment really since the outside dining option allows for an off main street opportunity to people watch. I wanted it to be better. Maybe will try again and hope for more attentive and improved service.

The service was wonderful. The dƩcor was lovely. The Phad Thai tasted like oyster sauce on rice noodles.
Nancy Emrich
Lovely tan wood Ddcor with a true sense pf proportion and balance. Every dish was lovely and a surprise of taste and interest. Spice ranking system is clear and effective. Flaws? Rare steak ordered with care. Came well. And one of sixesls came ten minutes behind the other five. To! You'll me glad.

Pretty good.... The lady who owns it is super nice. The pad phet is really yummy, and is my favorite in Portland. Everything else is good, not amazing, but always good. They have good soups too. And they have decently priced lunch specials. I've tried most of the menu, and never had anything horrible. The only thing that I love there though, is the pad phet. It's sooooo good. I crave it sometimes.

When My Thai Bistro first opened on SE Hawthorne a few years ago, I was skeptical. I lived in the neighborhood, already had my favorite haunts well established, and wasnāt necessarily willing to waste a perfectly good meal on food of unknown quality. Lucky for me, I swallowed my skepticism, gave it a shot, and thankfully was not disappointed.
