Love this place! Everything is good!
Every time we go, I try something different and always leave with a happy belly.
The vibe is chill. The people are chill. And just because bar is in the name doesn't mean you have to order alcohol, it's for foodies!! (*the watermelon margarita is delicious though♡)
Yes, get the papas, I'm obsessed.
Thank you Bar Carlo for always serving up delicious!!♡♡
Brunch, Brunch, Brunch!!!
I only have had breakfast/brunch here.
Bar Carlo is big, open, bright and beautiful to hang out in, good for meeting up with a medium-sized group. Parking is decent, on-street.
When I've been there, there was only one server but she was awesome, friendly and attentive.
The menu has lots of interesting Mexican-style brunch options but you can also get basic American eggs/pancakes-type stuff. Everything is hot, high-quality and very well-prepared in general. Your plate comes out looking very appetizing and the portions are perfect for me (medium/large appetite).
One interesting thing is the menu is low-key very veg/vegan/gf friendly. They have some meat stuff that looked great but the menu is not meat-centric. Most dishes are default without meat and you can add it if you want. I have no eating restrictions (I eat anything) but it just so happened that what I ordered was meatless and gluten free and was still amazing.
I didn't get any alcohol when I was there, but the coffee was excellent and bottomless (self-serve).
Also, if you are a fan of interesting hot sauce, make sure and ask for some of the house-made hot sauce on the side of whatever you get. It is INCREDIBLE and unique and goes great on potatoes or tortillas or whatever.
Finally a shout-out to their rice (which seemed exceptional) and, weirdly, the eggs. I order eggs over hard, which many kitchens seem to not understand but this kitchen does them perfect!
Way better than I expected. I thought this was a dive bar for four years but it turns out to be a great Mexican restaurant with an empty bar. People watching on Foster St is never a bore.
What an amazing experience! The staff were very friendly and hospitable. Melinda, the owner, is so sweet and takes the time to serve tables and to get to know her diners. The food was fabulous. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. I had the eggs benedict, coffee, a cookie, and mimosas. Everything was so perfect I ended up staying hours!

Had not been here in a number of years. Picked it as a brunch spot with a friend and found the atmosphere was still bright, chill and friendly. Our server was super attentive and helpful. The food was okay, it was fresh and hot but not outstanding. I would recommend the carnitas omelette but the chillaquillas didn't hit the mark.
We had such an amazing experience! The food was delicious and the service was amazing. The Corned Beef Hash was super flavorful and paired perfectly with the Michelada. It definitely hit the spot! The desserts were also so good! My favorites were the espresso bar and the conchas. So bomb!
Eating dinner here was an unexpected delight. The food was fantastic, our waitress Allison was wonderful, and we all had a tremendous time. I can't understand why the place isn't packed every night!
Fantastic food here. A variety of options and even some great meat entrees. Great place for brunch in the heart of the Foster neighborhood. Relaxed vibes relatively non-stressful compared to other hot brunch spots. Look forward to eating here again! Great local food spot.
Adorable place for brunch. I came here with a friend on a Tuesday morning and there were only a couple of other patrons so plenty of seating.
Their house specialty Mai Tai was billed as tall and strong which mine definitely was. My companion took advantage of the complimentary coffee and said it was quite good quality and strongly brewed.
I ordered a large spring mix salad which came with a delicious lemon vinaigrette. I ordered two poached eggs to mix in with my salad and they were cooked just barely too long.
My friend ordered their egg breakfast plate which had two eggs, s spicy (mole?) sauce, seasoned rice, black beans (which were fabulous,) tortillas, and some pickled onion and jalepeno based relish.
Very nice place. I'd love to come back when it's a little more busy to really get that "brunch" experience.
The pear and chevre sandwich, a side of potatoes and an Elderflower Fizz is literally the perfect meal. Absolutely makes life worth living. Don't forget your vaccination card if you want to sit inside.
This place is absolutely fire 🔥
I've been here several times it is my new go-to place for brunch. The drinks are amazing, especially the hibiscus drink. The food options are great and affordable, however last time I did order pear sandwich And it was quite a small portion compared to something else of similar value, I left feeling hungry. My partner ordered the breakfast burrito for the same price it was much better.
The food was so good I go here often with my daughter. Occasionally, there is a wait here, but it is worth it.
I had "the shift meal" it was gorgeous, and I will be back.
They have quite unique food and drink on the menu.
I don't like to give out many 5 star ratings, but this place had flavor-popping originality for dayzzze! Not to mention your slamming ur head against the wall trying to decide from so many amazing items. I got the shift meal which my amazing waiter Aaron i think his bame was said was most popular , amd u can taste why!!! If only I brought my favorite tortilla chips to go w/ but don't get me wrong their chips are great but they are heavy on the seasoning so they over power quickly. I would take away 1/4 star if i was rating this meal alone. The platos are amazing to im getting those next time! The brunch menu ooks show stopping from the description to what i saw! I dont do breakfast food so there brunch is a perfect mash-up for me!
Drinks:
Mojito- It was tasty not super frilly, but also not all mixer and ice cubes like most trendy places.
Amazing Portions & $-
I have half of my plate for another meal, but if you are a healthy eater you will be really stuffed. Prices are so reasonable. My plate was $10. Plates range from $8-16.
Service- I went about 1:30pm on Sunday & Sat outside w/ my dog . They have dog bowls , but he brought out a freah one just for my pup. They also use the wine bottles for the table water so you dont have to chase a waiter to get your h2o on! It was over the top attentive service , freindly, super informative about ingredients, & my food was in the table w/ perfextly cooked why yolk n melted to perfextion cheeses in almost under 10 mins. The people that go here and walk by outside are so frindly and lively that it made dinning alone actually really entertaining.
I HAVE HERD EVERYTHING HERE IS GREAT NOW I AM A BELIEVER!!!! THANK YOU BAR CARLO KEEP UO THE GREAT WORK!
My go-to brunch spot. Always great. And self-serve coffee as soon as you walk in!
This is one of my favorite breakfast/brunch spots in Portland. The food is amazing and service is always kind and friendly. Patrick, in particular, is wonderful. They do sometimes get busy on the weekends, but good for them! And no matter how packed the place gets, everyone who works there continues to be attentive and really genuinely nice. This place is a gem.
Thanks, Bar Carlo! Needed an easy bite that didn’t suck in the middle of my errand running, and the pear and cheese toast did not disappoint. Because it’s Portland, I had to throw in a glass of bubbles. Also good. I’ll be back!
Stabs (smoked meats and asian eats!) has some of the best barbeque in Portland. Texas-style BBQ and Vietnamese noodles are the to-die-for.combo I never knew I craved until they came around. And they're the nicest team around.
Fruit cup charmed the pants off of him. Vegan patty flew her socks right across the room. Perfect eggs. Scramble: so good. House hot sauces recommend.
