Good portions, fun, small diner atmosphere. Yummy food! All the sinfully delicious classics: Burgers, dogs, fries and tots and shakes! I had a chili dog with tots and a peanut butter shake. The dog was humongous! I could only eat half! Had to roll on home! 😂

This place is a diamond in the rough! It's been around forever and the burgers have been consistently tasty and fresh. It's not an inexpensive meal, however, so plan on spending around $10-$15pp for burger basket with a drink.

We love this place! We haven't been there in a long time. We talked about it and wished we were closer. We were driving through Portland and saw they were still open and just had to stop. It's so awesome to be able to have a great burger here. The walls are covered with pictures of the bygone eras with vintage cars and toys and games. It brings back great memories of years ago when life seemed simpler and more fun.
We highly recommend this wonderful little restaurant that is big on service and atmosphere.

As American diner as it gets. We got a chocolate hazelnut milkshake and onion rings. Both bomb. My wife said, I can't wait to come back for dinner."

What’s not to like about this old school burger + shake joint? All orders are togo only as well as they are short staffed due to Covid so it might take a little longer than usual (like nothing bad wait time wise).
Burgers are what you’d expect and are straight up delicious. They have soft serve which makes the shakes taste extra good. Fries are crisp and seasoned just right.

I love the burgers and fries!!! My milkshake was suppose to be mint and Oreo but there was not very much Oreo and didn't taste like mint at all :( I was kinda disappointed but other than that the burger and seasoned fries were delicious 🤤

This is an old drive in burger joint from the 30's. They have original burgers and other menu items such as a green river soda (one of my favorites). They do have ice cream items too. They have slot machines. All ages are welcome. I did take a picture a large part of the menu. I also took pictures of some event that will be going on this summer. Every year they have events.
A neat thing you see when you walk in is all the memorabilia they have ALL over in the building. I think they also have older video games (like packman) that you can play. This is my #1 place in town to get a burger. On the other hand the older lady at the register wasn't friendly when I called to order. I asked if she could tell me about the milkshakes she has. She said there are too many and she doesn't have time to go through them. When I got to the restaurant (5min later) no customers were in there, just myself. We ended up not ordering milkshakes. If you like this review please give it a thumbs up.

Great place to go for local American Comfort food. Was extremely busy and A small wait time but was very worth it. The milkshake was Delicious. Thick but not too heavy to suck through the straw with very consistent flavor. The Double bacon cheeseburger was done properly. A lot of flavor. Seasoned well. Crispy bacon with full flavor. Definitely will be going back to this place. as it has been around 100yr or so for good reason.

What a great burger place! Box and bagged up nicely. The milkshake was fantastic too. The sweet lady at the counter was very friendly. Yes, they have too many flavors to be asking about milkshake flavors. Read the menu, folks! I will definitely recommend this place to those who come visit Portland.

Both of us had swiss cheese burgers. She had a licorice shake (which she loved). The burger was very good and the fries were PERFECT! We were greeted with a smile and food served quickly. An old fashuoned burger joint. We will most certainly return.
Thanks to all the crew there!

Drove by once and decided it was a must try and boy did they not disappoint! Each time we've been there our food has been spot on! Delish, fresh and made custom to your order!! Do yourself a favor and indulge on one of their many flavors of milkshakes, they are worth every penny!!

A fun restaurant to enjoy a great burger and fries while taking in the nostalgic surroundings.
I had the namesake "Jim Dandy" with fries and chocolate shake. It was made to perfection and hit the spot.
Bonus was being able to sit down inside to eat.

There food is always great, especially the milkshakes but the best part of the restaurant is the awesome people working there. I've been helped by Diana and Liz on multiple occasions and they are always so genuinely sweet, welcoming and helpful. On the hottest day of the year I was digging around in my purse trying to come up with enough change to get a ice cream cone and it wasn't looking promising and Diana bless her heart covered it for me. I know it's just a little icecream cone (actually it was a monster but I didn't mean literally lol) but it definitely made my day. Really they both deserve raises and employees of the month bc I don't write many reviews so the place has to be pretty special to inspire me to.

Cheeseburger was good! Small wafflefries was maybe 5 fries but they were good just expected a couple more.

Great food, amazing shakes! I have double cheeseburger w/ bacon, fries, and a strawberry chocolate shake. It was all great.
I didn't experience any bad customer service, in fact going in expecting it I found everyone to be very friendly. Guy at the window greeted us and took our order like I would expect. I even had someone come by and clear our table who didn't seem upset to be doing so.
Can't wait to go back and try another shake!

I came for the vegan menu. The COVID protocols were thorough. The vegan menu was more than adequate. It is, as they say, NOT fast food. Coming here on my lunch break from work nearby I believe I will follow the advice on the window which suggests I can order ahead and pay with a card over the phone. I felt like I had been transported to the American 1960's. It was clean, service was good and it was nostalgic.

Okay, I will go ahead and say it. Top drive-in experience I’ve ever had. Menu has many options, burger was flavorful, strawberry chocolate milkshake was one to remember, and the ambiance is top notch.
Highly recommend. Looking forward to being here for the 100th anniversary! I’m making a point to be first in line!

Shakes are simply a creamy cup of yum that I can't get enough of! My first time trying the food was today. The bacon cheeseburger was quite tasty and the fries were a perfect blend of crispness without too much crunch and perfectly golden. It was good, nice and juicy. More like homemade.... however neither beats that shake. Mmmmmmm :)

Great greasy burger and great shakes at a Portland establishment that's been around for decades.

I've been in several times it's got that borderline 50's vibe without the price, flavor or attitude and have never been let down until my last visit. After placing my order (total was $13 including a tip) I first received my shake which had the consistency and flavor one would find at McDonald's then after 30 minutes
(not exactly slam busy) my Vics Special "Turkey & Bacon" finally arrived the bread was borderline soggy, very little Turkey, no bacon and no way I was going to eat that, I walked out VERY DISSATISFIED!

We went there for dinner after the hotel stuff showered praise on them.
The place, with extremely busy decor and blue-and-red lights looks like a psychedelic den for truck drivers. The few people sitting there would vindicate my feeling.
However, the food was decent and reasonably priced. Some items on the menu looked expensive, but they apparently use fresh locally produced meat. So I guess the price is ok.

Always wonderful!. The burgers are fantastic and the milkshakes are even better!

Dog Day Afternoon. I found myself with an unexpected hour to spare the other day and decided to spend part of it loitering in my automobile, heading east on Sandy. Then I remembered that this joint was up that way (Id read about it the week before) and figured a Chili Cheese Dog would pass the time as well as anything else, so I dropped in. Not sure if divey is the right term to use for a restaurant or not, but thats about as kind a term as I can muster for it. To give you an idea; the elderly gentleman in front of me was wheeling around an oxygen tank and after ordering, made his way over to a small room which turned out to be full of video lottery machines. Nascar was on the TV, and at one point they had someone sing the national anthem. The obese woman across from me stopped eating, looked up at the TV, put her hand over her heart and sang along. This; is Jim Dandy's. In the meanwhile I had placed my order and after a few minutes my basket arrived. Huge Hot Dog. Unfortunately, the bun split in half as soon as I tried to pick it up. Which is probably why I was provided with a fork and knife. Once I put those to work I was able to see that the dog was burned black. I love me a flattop grilled dog but this was beyond the beyond. But wait, theres more. Once I sawed through it I was greeted by meat that was....... white. Yes, white. Not pink, not red. No, white. With the charred outer part it looked like some sort of Oreo mutation. The Chili, obviously came from a large can (Stagg maybe, or its generic equivalent?).
Honestly I dont know why I even ate it, an attempt by myself to indulge some gross sense of curiosity maybe? Look, I love diners and greasy spoons as much as anyone. But sometimes bad is just bad. This was bad. It didnt make me sick, Ill give them that. But what they serve here is food for people who view eating as something that is necessary, with little to no regard for quality or taste. The very definition of bottom of the barrel.
Grade: D- (Coke tasted fine)

Old School Burger Joint. "The Royal" with pickles, ham and cheese... Very Nice. This place has great burgers, curly fries, and malts. It is seriously "Old School" and if you like that kind of thing this is the place to go.
