My favorite sushi restaurant.
The atmosphere is traditional and delightfully homey.
The food is on a train that’s on a track that goes around the restaurant.
The staff are quick and polite. Many regulars talk and chat with the friendly owners.
The price can not be beat! I love unagi, and this place has the tastiest for the cheapest price.
Can’t recommend enough.
We've been going here for 10+ years. It's my son's favorite sushi restaurant. It's the best cheap sushi spot in town.
I recommend the following.
- salmon nigiri. The seared salmon nigiri is good too.
- hamachi nigiri
- spicy tuna handroll or regular roll
- spider roll, great deal
If they're not too busy, order with the paper menu. He'll make fresh sushi for you. Most everything is good here.
Excellent quality and variety of sushi, served at just the right temperature. The chef keeps on top of making sure there are dozens of sushi to choose from.
Sushi served by a model freight train in a honey atmosphere. Great prices, generous portions, excellent staff. Thank you so much!
Sushi Takahashi 2 has been my family's go to "conveyor belt" style sushi joint for years now. It's convenient to our kids' school, and they love the model train that carries the sushi plates around the bar.
Sadly, their lease is not being renewed, and they will be closing at the end of December while they search for a new location.
The fish is always fresh and tasty, and the atmosphere is welcoming. We'll miss today location, but will return when they do. Also, they'll be open Saturdays and Sundays during December, so go while you still can.
Don’t go to any other sushi place in the area. Fresh fish, very fast, small authentic feeling atmosphere, and GREAT prices. Rolls and sashimi were amazing, and super generous for the small price. As if it couldn’t get any better, we were walking out during closing and they gave us like 40 pieces of free sushi for the road. Unbelievable, I’m still in shock how great this place is.
This is the best sushi shop in Portland. It is completely unassuming. Not fancy. Just great. Sure you can pay 3 times as much at other shops and still not get the same level of quality. I eat there every other month or so, and have never been disappointed. Don't let the unassuming interior fool you. The food is pure magic.
Great little spot, sushi train so selection is great and fast. Had a 10 minute layover on TriMet so I stopped in for a quick bite. The lady saw how much my boy loved their sushi and we had to go, so she comped him a bunch of his favorite rolls! Good people, highly recommended!
Great place for a quick bite. In order to get better sushi one has to pay twice as much, by far the best value in town. Jalapeno hand rolls are to die for, in addition to wonderful, fresh, raw and cooked choices. The nicest service pared with mouth watering treats made by people who still love making sushi. My favorite spot.
The menu could be a little bit more clear in terms of the prices for the different sushi-train dishes.
Very solid sushi, served train-style. Very easy to come in here for an extremely quick lunch, pick what I want, spend less than $15, and be back at work before the end of my lunch break. Super friendly staff.
This place is a treasure of south downtown.
Not usually a fan of conveyor belt sushi, but this place has a model train running around, with a limited number of plates, so you know they're fresh. Prices, for Portland, are pretty good too.
I really enjoy this place! The little train going around the tracks really made me smile. They had a great selection of sushi. I enjoy getting the salmon sashimi and the spicy tuna hand roll. It's a small place and very quaint. The staff we're really nice
The sushi here is amazing. My favorites are the spicy tuna rolls (both regular and creamy) as well as the jalapeno rolls. Everything else I ate was really good too. However, track is literally a (model) train track, and the train itself is relatively short. So the selection is kinda small, forcing you to have to order directly from the chef.
Sushi Takahashi is excellent on all counts ... perfectly fresh, delicious food, delightful atmosphere, and really cool, nice people running it. Their location will soon be the site of a new apartment building so tommorow night, New Year's Eve, will be the last night in their current location but keep an eye out. He promises they'll open in a new location soon. We're counting on it. I travel a lot and this is one of my favorite restaurants in the whole world.
First of all, I never write reviews, but after having such an amazing experience I have to. So here we go:
FOOD: Incredible. Not only are the portions of meat sizable, but they are also very good quality. No fishy odor or taste, no grittiness or chewiness, just good fish that almost melts when you eat it. Also, the sushi rice was delicious and the best I have had from a place serving "conveyor belt" sushi - it was slightly tangy and not too stiff. Each sushi piece is made with expertise and love, and it shows.
PRICE: Also incredible. Plates range from $1.50 to $3.75 with menu items averaging $9 or so. For the quality and quantity of food, it's a real deal. My partner and ate until we were stuffed for just $29.
SERVICE: Very friendly and talkative. The small number of seating (about 20 seats) allows for a more personal experience and faster service (also, probably contributes to the food quality as well). The woman serving us was all smiles and very polite, and the sushi chef and owner was also talkative and happy and gave out free samples - You can tell they really enjoy the food they serve and sharing that experience.
ATMOSPHERE: Not gonna lie, at first, I was nervous. The location is tucked away off the highway next to a corner store, but when entering, it is very homey and pleasant. You forget you are on a highway in Portland and get sucked into the cozy and inviting staff and seating.
BEFORE YOU GO: Apparently it can get busy for lunch, and for dinner, so come before or after the rush. Also, they are closed on weekends and the owner takes random days off, so the hours are never entirely for certain. And if you are looking for quick and inexpensive sushi, all sushi on the sushi train is 50% off for to-go orders after 8:30pm (it closes at 9pm)
All in all, an amazing experience. Definitely will be frequenting this place, and even now am hesitant about writing this review because I secretly want to keep this gem all to myself; but it is one that should be shared :)

This is the sushi place that I always end up coming back to because I'm never disappointed. Without a doubt, my favorite sushi place in Portland. It's small with a friendly atmosphere. The chef is a great guy that loves to make guests feel welcome. And the sushi is consistently better than other places in town. Eat sushi here. Seriously.
Delicious food, excellent fish at a very reasonable price. Service can get a little slow during busy hours, but sit on the side the chef is facing for great recommendations and prompt fresh rolls. We find it hard to go get sushi anywhere else after discovering this gem.
This is my favorite casual sushi place! They have a sushi train that you can pick and choose what you'd like. They also have a small menu you can order from. Your bill is calculated from the color/design of each plate. Food is good and the staff is friendly. I come here often for a quick bite
