Does Matt's BBQ Taco need another rave review? No, probably not but it's going to get one anyways...
My mind was flipping blown, keeping in mind that I do my own smoked meats and have had 40 years of eating tacos on the border of Mexico. It's safe to say that I have a preference towards how things are done and was gobsmacked over Just how good this food was.
Get the goat.
There isn't any goat meat in it. It just means greatest of all time and that taco is appropriately named. The pickled red onions are delicious without being overseasoned and trying to steal all the show. The salsa is laughably good, I say that because the tacos are so delicious and moist. They don't really need anything added to it, but the salsas are so good you can't help but mix and match.
These tacos are absolutely amazing. We tried the pork belly, the brisket, the GOAT, and taco supreme. The meat is delicious, sauces are incredible and the tortillas are SO good too. You can also order drinks from the bar. Very affordable and great service. Come hungry!
These were solid tacos. We ordered the brisket, smoked mushroom, and pork belly. My favorite was the smoked mushroom. The pork belly was quite tender too. I would have preferred a little less or even no guac as it overpowers the texture of the tacos. Loved the homemade corn tortilla but preferred the flour this time.
Great tacos in PDX, the first meal we had when we landed and we were very much impressed. Food scene is solid, and it starts with the food truck spots in Portland. Definitely check out Matt's if you're in town. They are way bigger than street tacos and the toppings were top notch!
This was the best decision I've made all weekend! The taco was incredible, the queso, guac, and chips were perfection. This is a great food cart, the chef is fantastic. I'll definitely be coming back!
The tacos here were amazing!
We had the brisket tacos, chorizo breakfast tacos (spicy!), and pork belly breakfast tacos. Oh and they were topped with an amazing queso! All of them were amazing and we would go have them again in a heartbeat!
The seating was ample and heated! What a fun environment to try something new during our stay in Portland!
Came around 10:30am right before they stop serving breakfast tacos at 11am. Relatively empty and only took about 10 minutes to get my tacos. Drinks are ordered at the bar, and I got an iced cold brew -no iced coffee available. The flour tortillas were thick and on the small-ish side but definitely had plenty of filling inside. I really liked the brisket breakfast taco and reminded me of tacos back home in Texas. The migas taco was a little soggy but I enjoyed it especially with the green salsa. Overall, definitely going to be a regular breakfast taco place for me and would bring friends here for a casual breakfast before a weekend hike or outing!
We were visiting for the weekend and came here twice! It was that good. Homemade tortillas and amazing BBQ Pork! Reminded me of my Austin Texas Breakfast Tacos!
Delicious food truck tacos. The GOAT was super filling, and the cheeseburger taco was a great twist. Tortillas were very fresh but the salsa was a little bland/mild. The atmosphere was cool, we heard about them from Street Food on Netflix and we were not let down.
Matt's cart (and sterling reputation) have moved to the recently opened Hinterland pod on SE 50th. I suspect that the pod's covered seating and central bar service will work out very well for them.
Ordering can be done online, or via a pseudo online touchscreen attached to the cart - I suspect that this is good for keeping up with demand, as well as being an effective pandemic protocol.
As for the food (finally!), it was well worth the wait for my first visit. Choosing somewhat randomly from the menu, I went with a Pulled Pork taco, as well as the Beef Supremo. If a fast food item was redesigned and made with actual quality ingredients, you'd get the Beef Supremo. This was a fascinating exercise, but it was the Pulled Pork that will bring me back - the pork came with guacamole and pickled onions that proved to cap it off perfectly.
Matt's tacos are truly special.
