A special little restaurant hidden away off Foster & off 52nd. Parking on the street so you can stop to eat or pick up to go. The food is like none other the gumbo is really tasty with the shrimp. There quick in preparing the food . There are picnic tables you can eat at. Friendly atmosphere, and a nice person works there. The menu is great for any time of year. The banana pudding is very tasty and a good into your meal, which is very filling. Nutritious meal!

The food is amazing, quick service, great prices and the woman running the cart was an absolute gem, just like the cart. I wish I had gotten her name to shout her out. I will definitely be going back. I got the trinity gumbo bowl and vanilla puddn’ - 5 stars all around.

I had The Trinity (pictured), which is a large bowl of moderately spicy gumbo, with chicken, shrimp and Andouille sausage. The service was friendly, polite, and fast. The spice of the gumbo was a good, happy medium, the quantities of meat were generous, the prices seemed pretty reasonable, the gumbo was served very hot, and kept its heat, which I feel bodes well for return visits in the Fall / Winter / Spring, in particular, as well as for the freshness of carry out or delivery orders. When I prepare gumbo, I like it a bit thicker, and with plenty of okra in it, as it is one of my favorite seasonings. Just personal preference. I think Mumbo Gumbo's is a slightly different style of gumbo than I am used to; forgive my ignorance, but I believe theirs is a "dark roux?" Definitely didn't see any chunks of okra, and I don't think I tasted any, but they do have other menu items, which do specify that they contain it, so I will definitely be back to try one or more of those, and if they are good, will probably bump the rating up to five stars, as cajun food is fun, but seems to be uncommon, in Portland.

Absolutely delicious! I got the Trinity and the Nipsy Hustle. The gumbo was so flavorful and the meat was stewed to perfection. Glad to see some true southern comfort food in Portland.

Outstanding Southern Food in SE Portland! I have walked by this food truck many times and finally had the opportunity to order takeout and meet Brandon (chef and owner!) Brandon is awesome! Very friendly and personable and has a deep knowledge of his beautifully crafted dishes Having recently returned from the South, we were able to experience many forms of shrimp and grits Mumbo Gumbo nailed the shrimp and grits! They were delicious and full of cheesy yumminess. The shrimp are good size and the flavors all meld together perfectly. We also had the gumbo and it was by far the best gumbo we’ve had in Portland! As a previous reviewer wrote it puts “the south in your mouth!” I cannot wait to revisit and try out some more of Brandon‘s creations!

Fantastic, best Gumbo ever. They are open till 2am every night, quiet and convenient location, outside tables, huge portions and killer prices. So many rich and colorful flavors in the gumbo, the shrimp on toasted roll was on point. Friendly crew, knowledgeable about menu.

I know Cajun. I’m a Fontenot. My parents are from Eunice, my Pawpaw Honeybee was a crawfish and rice farmer, my Pawpaw Jack sang and played the accordion for his band the Acadiana Allstars. So let me spread some gospel. You will not find Cajun this good anywhere outside the bottom half of Louisiana, much less out here in white, bland Portland. The longtime popular spot touting to be Cajun in SE (God rest their soul) was a downright insult to Cajun cuisine. Mumbo Gumbo brings honor. The gumbo was everything it’s supposed to be. They even gave me filé powder on the side like I requested, which told me they knew their stuff (I can’t find filé powder anywhere out here, sometimes I’m lucky enough to find Tony’s). The rice was the essential long grain variety and cooked perfectly, al dent and every grain separate from the others. The sausage was impressive. Every ingredient was well cooked and very much identifiable, which tells me they use quality ingredients and take great care in every layer of their process. The Nipsey Hussle?! “Double up” on the flavor, sha. And thank you for providing proper size shrimp, also a rarity out here. To conclude my rant, the sweet tea was just right, the nanner puddin was just right, the plating and service was just right. I ordered via a delivery app and when it got here I still had to let it cool down, it was still so hot. Bravo. Thank you. I’m so glad you’re here. Laissez les bons temps rouler!

One of a small chain of Gumbo food carts. I had gumbo with chicken and scallops. It was thick, flavorful, warming, and had everything a gumbo should from okra to dark roux. I will definitely becoming back

Today way my first time! My husband and I shared The Trinity (large gumbo $15) and The Nipsey Hussle ($12). This meal was perfect for sharing. Everything was delicious! Definitely recommend. We can't wait to go back.
