My daughter loves their Shepard Pie. However, I when I tried to order it last night, it was no longer on the menu. After recognizing our disappointment, the Chef insisted that he make an order specially for her- and it was delicious. We have always been impressed with the quality of the food and service at New American and are very glad that it's in the neighborhood. We especially like their brunch!

Everything was delicious and loved the portion sizes. The first place in Portland I've found that does polenta the way I grew up on it Swiss style, that is to say, very mushy. They make it savory with cheddar cheese (I grew up eating a sweet raisen/apple variety). Great salads too And a nice patio. Consider me hooked.

Their focus on farm-->restaurant, organic eating combined with their family-friendly nature were only topped off by the creative menu and delicious meals we ordered. I'm anxious to go back for breakfast as the lunch we ordered was exceptional.

For the third time after eating at New American, I had to go back to the chef and tell them how much I'd enjoyed my meal. Every dish has a novel twist: the benedict served on croquets of savory bread pudding, the pancakes with a crepe-like golden crust, or even the side yams with a thick, delectable glaze. Their dishes could go toe-to-toe with the best in Portland. The only equally good brunch I've had was at tasty and sons. Since New American is about 20% cheaper and rarely full, it's the current 'hidden gem' of Portland.

Oh my gosh, this place. Talk about wonderful! The food is SO good. So flavorful with inventive pairings that didn't feel forced. The atmosphere is relaxed and quiet, which is my preferred environment. Service was also excellent! Highly recommend.

Very good food. You order at the bar, even while sitting down - which is a little weird. It has a nice, relaxed atmosphere and is great for groups.
