Came here on a Saturday evening based on its reputation as one of the best restaurants in Portland. It held up to its reputation! A quaint place, we had barside reservations and reservations are your best bet. Starting off with Truffle Popcorn that was addictive were ordered the Bangs Island Mussels. The Jus was perfect. For dinner, my Duck breast was perfectly cooked as well has her Salmon. We had to enjoy dessert as the evening was going perfectly. Our server, Chris at the bar, was nothing short of great! All wait staff assists in running food and dishes and they were so kind. The Back Bay Grill is truly one of Portland's finest.

Absolutely amazing!!! Well worth the wait for an available reservation! The atmosphere, service and I’d course the FOOD - totally top notch! 1st course mussels were tiny pillows of love in a creamy curry broth and topped by kimchee. Appetizer seared scallops with chimichurri were perfectly cooked and seasoned- the best I’ve had anywhere in many many years!! Crab cake appetizer also delightful, topped with lobster knuckle - how could you go wrong? I had the filet as my entree - cooked to perfect med rare, topped with exactly the right amount of high quality Stilton - melt in your mouth perfect!!!! We also got a side of the bacon braised collards (featured with the lamb entree but just had to have!) and it was amazing!!! Topped off by a perfect classic crime brûlée- I couldn’t have eaten another bite- but it was so wonderful- I wanted more!!! Paired with an excellent starter cocktail “Bees Knees”, a lovely prosecco with the appetizers and a gorgeous La Crema Pinot Noir - the end to end experiences was, simply, amazing. Can’t wait to go back!

We had such a nice relaxing evening in a cozy corner romantic table for two. Dinner was delicious and dessert was scrumptious. A little old world , quaint and Jesse our waiter was professional and personable and made dinner fun ! We were looking for a special place for dinner and this it was ❤️♥️

The food is amazing--I've been a few times and you could close your eyes and point at the menu--everything is great. Unlike some spots, BBG isn't a one trick pony either; the service is phenomenal! Waitstaff were so attentive to our needs; they even brought toys over for our 16 month old to play with (they assured us they are baby friendly). Amazing atmosphere, food, drinks, and service. My five year anniversary was a little extra special because of BBG.

I celebrated an anniversary here and the food was absolutely amazing with service that was exceptional. The mussels and the broth were the best we ever had. The main course lobster was simply mouth watering. We were pleasantly surprised with the desert dish decorated with a chocolate 'Happy Anniversary'. Am looking forward to going here again!

Great meal! We had the filet mignon and it was excellent. Terrific service. It is quite pricey; not a place you can afford to go frequently. We went for our 49th wedding anniversary and our desserts arrived with “Happy Anniversary” written in chocolate on our plates. Very nice touch. We will go back. We had a wonderful time.

Food and service were exceptional. The Roasted Red Pepper Soup was so good, the Filet Mignon was cooked to perfection and the Creme Brulee was recommend by a friend and did not disappoint. We'll definitely be going back!

Tonight for Valentines Day my girlfriend and I enjoyed one of the most delicious meals I’ve had in Portland. The menu was superb, from the truly divine oxtail ragout with butternut squash ravioli to the bacon wrapped rabbit with celeriac purée & caramelized carrots. And that’s just what I had. The service was, as lauded, the most excellent I’ve had to date. Every detail was perfectly executed and attended too. 5 out 5, veramente fantastico! Grazie!

My husband and I had dinner this evening at Back Bay Grill to celebrate my birthday. The food was superb and beautifully presented. I had rutabaga bisque followed by the lavender duck breast topped with duck confit, with green apple salad and parsnip purée. Ray had the beet salad followed by the filet mignonette. Both were incredibly delicious. My festive birthday dessert was white chocolate ice cream with chocolate sauce, garnished with crispy chocolate spaghetti strands! A special thank you to Jessie, Adrian, and Leeanna for your helpful recommendations and beautifully paced service!

There are a lot of great restaurants in Portland, and then there's Back Bay Grill. Unpretentious, impeccable service, incredible food, and such a comfortable spot. Unrivaled.

The dinner I had last night was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. My favorite part was the entree's. I had the filet mignon and my boyfriend ate the lamb, I honestly don’t know which one I liked more. The lamb was cooked so beautifully, and everything on the dish paired together in the best way possible. My filet was perfection and it had the creamiest (goat?) cheese on top of it… never would I thought how wonderful cheese and steak could be. The staff was delightful, attentive, and not too overbearing. 10/10 I recommend getting in here before they change chefs so you can go back and compare. That’s my plan anyways! Thank you so much for a lovely dinner ✨

I never went in but noticed it over the 35 years I've lived two blocks away. It always looked respectable, speaking as a former National Guard cook. I just visit to say that we overdid the COVID a bit, a lot of people are thinking. But a hardened capitalist might reply, markets need a good stiff shaking from time to time. But I guess there's no such thing as a hardened capitalist. Portland probably can't appreciate good cooking at the moment.

Wish I could select 4.5 stars....outstanding service, flavorful fresh bites (very good, yet not great for small plates at Portland pricing), extensive wine list, classic atmosphere, and nice music play list. Love the marble sinks and cloth hand towels in restroom. Superb quality olive oil, cute homemade chip with ricotta dip, and use of garnishes for presentation. Bar area may get loud depending on the crowd; dining room may be prefered & definitely recommend making a reservation for date night.

The food here is phenomenal. We ordered the foie gras and the crab cake for apps, then followed with the lobster for our main course... best lobster we had during our visit to Portland. Dessert included the chocolate torte and creme brulee. I felt the service could have been better for a fine dining establishment. The staff were friendly but left large amounts of time when we were not checked on. Was a shame as we would have ordered more drinks had someone asked about it.

A quality special occasion choice. Good range of options on the prix fixe menu. Fine service. Excellent wine selection. Apps we're outstanding, but entrées a little less so. My wife's steak was a bit dry, my duck dish rather salty. Prices were probably a bit high for Portland Maine, considering I've had better for less, but I understand the times.

I have been a long time patron of BBG and am so happy to see some aesthetic updates with the same excellent quality of food and drinks! The service, as always, was fantastic as well. It is highly recommended to call ahead for a reservation, especially for a weekend night.

Everything was absolutely stellar. We have been meaning to get here for several years, and I can't believe we waited so long. We appreciated the perfect ambiance and music selection, the professional, pleasant staff, and the excellent food. All of the food was excellent. Just really, really good food. We'll be back.
