Fantastic casual neighborhood atmosphere. Drinks are made without being shy with the liquor. The bar fare is top notch comfort. And the service is like family taking care of you.

hesitant to review this place only because it is one of portland’s most underrated gems. real neighborhood-y vibe with lovely staff. new renovations make the place significantly more polished while still retaining its casual feel. plus, a fantastic back patio! ideal for summertime and any future pandemics that may come our way. keep it up guys!!!!

This is our favorite bar in Portland. Great gathering spot for locals and not touristy. Their pub food is great and their bartender Kelly is even greater! We've been coming here since the Original Howie owned it, the new owners really brightened up the place with their recent renovations. Small but plenty of seating between the bar and high top tables. Glad they survived the pandemic!

I love the place. It is my local, but honestly the chill vibe is fantastic and the food and drink are both good. I hesitate to review because I don't want it overrun. Still they deserve kudos. It's a great local pub and grill.

Great neighborhood bar and easily walkable from my house. I'll be back! I think Kelly was my bartender. Really nice and healthy drinks!

Awesome bar with a mix of domestic and craft beers, $5 wings on sundays, half price pizza on Monday, trivia on Tuesday. Bartender was super friendly and very on top of serving us drinks even with us sitting at a table, will definitely go back.

Howie's is your typical neighborhood bar. It's definitely got a dive feel to it. The beer and food prices are super cheap and they even do a happy hour, so the cheap just gets cheaper. Keep an eye out for the daily food specials. I highly recommend the pickle pizza or the bacon pizza, the crust is fluffy and the pizzas are the perfect size to share. If you're looking for light snacks, try their onion rings. You'll get a massive portion and probably won't be able to eat them all. If you aren't a trivia buff, I would recommend avoiding Tuesday nights. Howie's trivia starts at 6:30 and usually runs for 2 hours. It can get very competitive and depending on the week, the place will be packed with extra folding tables set up in the walkways. The main reason to come to Howie's is for Howie himself. He's a lovely man who genuinely cares about his customers and his employees. He's not afraid to cuss people out during trivia night but underneath that gruff exterior is a marshmallow. The only downside to Howie's is the parking. It just doesn't really exist. You can park on the side street off of Veranda or go all the way to the end of the side street and park in a dirt lot. If Howie's is bumping, the parking spaces are at a premium.
