It was our very first time eating here, and the food was great. Steak was perfectly cooked , tender, and seasoned well. The salmon and the orzo wild rice were very good. By the way, it is a cold rice.Almost forgot the delicious sauce that came with the salmon. Definitely will be going back. And it wasn't that expensive than other places where the food didn't meet my expectations.
Great spot for a fancy date night. Lighting is perfect and the booths are nice for privacy and cutting down on sound. Most of the food is excellent with a few exceptions. The cocktails are wonderful with creative spins. The large portions are perfect for meal splitting! Would definitely recommend!
It was such a pleasure to dine in at at J Alexander’s. Food was delicious, service was swift, our hostess was personable, ambience amazing. We had ordered a veggie buger and ribs and both were phenomenal. Sides were are as good as the entree. Portion size size pretty big. Definitely going back!!
This was a “special occasion” and it was Mother’s Day meal, this part of Raleigh can be just too busy for the general value and quality of the food IMHO but of course. In this situation I stand corrected, the restaurant was low lighted, organized and the waitstaff were phenomenal. The menu was quite diverse with a good mix of all the American style dishes. The entrance, seating and bathrooms were all nice, a good foundation of any restaurant and the food was really good. The prices were moderate and we went for not one but 2 appetizers, unusual for us but the food was so good. We traveled there on a Sunday evening and the traffics was not bad but the restaurant was busy but not bad.
Sage, Sage Sage!! She was our server and she made the best recommendations! Food was delicious. Drinks were en pointe! But the service was fantastic. Go there! Ask for her! You won’t be disappointed!
I love everything about this restaurant. The service 10/10. Food 10/10. Drinks 10/10. Dessert 10/10! The atmosphere is perfect for a date night or a business meeting. you cannot go wrong. Definitely try it out. Make a reservation especially on the weekend. They offered plenty of parking. 10/10 definitely recommend.

1st time here for my Birthday dinner and I absolutely loved it. I got the Mexican Spinach Con Queso Dip as an appetizer and it was great. As my main dish I got the baby back ribs, mashed potatoes, carrots. The ribs were season to perfection and the BBQ was just chefs kiss. Mashed potatoes were good and the carrots were just ok. I’m not a big carrot fan but they were seasoned well. I will definitely be coming back
Absolutely must! Food was quick and delicious. The ambience was perfect. I had the 919 drink and I would highly recommend it - perfect balance. Husband’s prime rib looked delicious and my salad was better than I could make myself. The waitress was nice enough to bring bread out for my children to ensure everyone had something to eat for an appetizer. We will be back.
Wow!! Was totally not expecting our experience to be as good as it was! Nina was our waitress and she was amazing and attentive! The queso did was so good!! Full of flavor. And a large portion at that. My fiancé got the burger and I’m telling you it was out of this world. So juicy and had the perfect amount of toppings. The fries are thin cut which I prefer. My rotisserie chicken was really great as well. I prefer if they would cut the chicken off the bone, but I can understand why they did it for presentation purposes. The coffee is French press. Nina even offered me a to go cup! Will definitely be back soon!
Very nice restaurant! My server was Stephanie and she was fantastic! I inquired with her about the best food items on the menu, and she was absolutely correct!
I would give them a 4.5 star. We got take out and our food was very good, we ordered 3 tuna stacks and 1 halibut(although the halibut smelled fishy). The bartender was very nice and quickly got us drinks while we waited for our order. Manager had to run out to our car to deliver the halibut which was accidentally left out of the order…thankfully he reached us before we left!
The prime rib was juicy and perfectly cooked. It’s been a while since I was last at a J Alexander’s, but the flavors of the prime rib brought back memories of past birthday dinners growing up. The Alex Salad seems to have changed— it used to be refined and chopped salad with a delicious honey mustard served with a buttery croissant. It seems to now be a normal salad you can get anywhere and the dressing is more mayonnaise-y. Perhaps it is a regional difference? The food was great overall.
Great atmosphere for a cozy dinner. Appetizer was amazing. Cobb salad was delicious and the smashed potatoes were yummy. I've had better prime rib however. I'd go back again!
My wife and I are back at our go to for the best food ever. J.Alexanders at Crabtree. They have the best prime rib in the city. I had the prime rib sandwich with their famous mac and cheese. And my wife had the shrimp with fries and broccoli. We have never had a bad meal here. And I definitely recommend you get the carrot cake. Crazy.
It's a great place to visit. My only complaint is that the water didn't taste good. Staff were friendly and accommodating. There was plenty of food, we didn't lack anything. All the food we ordered was delicious, including the ahi salad, cod, chips and dip, and fish sandwich. We enjoyed the calming lighting. Tables were lighted with real candles. We found it to be clean. Our party of six had plenty of room in the booth. There was plenty of parking. We were greeted by the hostess with a smile, and she bid us goodbye. The experience was wonderful.
