We came in at the odd hour (3:30pm on Sunday). So we were the only table that dined in (but many take-out orders when we were there.) The taste is quite authentic. The stir-fried shredded potato is the best I had. The new dish garlic sauce lotus root is too sweet to our liking so 1 star off. The restaurant is clean, and the food is yummy. Although they don't have a waiter or waitress, Mr.Lee, who takes the order, is attentive to satisfy our requests. We would definitely return.
We went to this place for lunch and it was great!! The service was prompt and the restaurant was nice and clean! I love Chinese food and I was looking for a Din Tai Fung (my comfort food) duplicate here in NC because that place is only on the West Coast and this place is pretty spot on! My absolute favorite is the wonton in chili oil and the steamed chicken slices are a close second. I would get everything again except for the Dan Dan noodles. They were okay, but not particularly my preference bc of the taste that remains in the back of my throat after eating it (from the oil/sauce) so I’ll try another one of their noodle dishes! Highly recommend this place and will be back!
We ordered delivery from this restaurant. We were very pleased with the quality of the food and the rapid delivery. We ordered Kung Pao Chicken, Stir Fry Chicken and Mushrooms, Vegetable Fried Rice, and Pork Buns. There was a large portion of chicken as well as mushrooms in the Chicken and Mushroom stir fry. The food was tasty and well seasoned. The portion size was large enough to have plenty of leftovers for tomorrow. We have been looking for a "go-to" Chinese food restaurant. I think we have found it!
This is hands down some of the best food I've had in the whole triangle area. I've been craving authentic Chinese food and Chuan Cafe would hold up against what I have back in the DMV area. It's even worth driving 45 min from Durham. The place is located in the absolute middle of nowhere, but the restaurant itself is cute and generally pretty empty. It seems to be family owned and the server was very sweet. Don't expect 5 star table service lol. It's bare bones in that sense, but you're really here for the food.
Szechuan cuisine is known for its spice, so expect chilis and chili oil in most dishes. The Bamboo Flounder Fish is an absolute MUST! It's one of my favorites so I was so excited to see it on the menu. It doesn't stay crisp when you order to-go, unsurprisingly, so dine in to get it fresh. I also highly recommend the Steamed Chicken Slices in Chili Oil, which is a cold appetizer. I've tried the Toothpick Lamb, Double Cooked Pork Belly, Mapo Tofu, and Green Beans (a classic). Sometimes the dishes lean a little salty and the mapo tofu was not my favorite iteration of the dish, but I've been really impressed as a whole. I think if you order more typical American Chinese dishes (egg roll, dumplings, fried rice, chow mein, orange chicken) you will be sorely disappointed.
There's not a whole lot of authentic Chinese food in North Carolina, so I highly recommend trying something new when you come! There's still so many more things on the menu I've been eyeing, so I'm gonna continue making the trek to come here :)
Pretty authentic Chinese food. Ordered three dish they all tasted really good. Highly recommend. Good price good food !
Come check it out
Solo date success! The food is a bit pricey, but I will splurge on food/experience, if nothing else. I ordered an array of items because duhhh I’m a foodie, I like variety, and I’m thrifty so I love to get multiple meals from one. The chef is a nice older Asian woman and when she brought the food, she said “wow, lot of food , take home” which I agreed and laughed. Needless to say this quaint restaurant was very clean and the owners are welcoming. Pictured is the dry fried green beans, spicy fried shrimp, Szechuan Chicken in chili oil, spicy wontons, and spring rolls (not pictured b/c they came first and didn’t wait around for a pic). I loved the flavor profile of all the food and it bears repeating, THE SPICE. Just something about that fried chili oil seasoning that excites my tastebuds. I would definitely recommend if your tastebuds resonate with this review.
This place is very small and cozy!
Food is very nice we ordered bamboo floured (P3) ,chicken with pepper and garlic (M3) and dried fried string beans (V3) and all 3 dishes are very tasty we love it! We will definitely go back for more different dishes next time.
Came here for lunch. Really good stuff. Will be back. Authentic and delicious dishes.
Spot-on Sichuan dishes and American Chinese dishes were perfect too. Loved the Mapo toufu and the Szechuan Farmer's Chili Chicken (very spicy) especially.
UPDATE: Did takeout this time and our big order was ready in 15 minutes and every dish perfect. Worth the money!
I love this place and can’t compliment it enough! If you love authentic Sichuan cuisine then this is the place for you. Not a single complaint about anything I had. The fries were divine and I LOVE the spicy wontons. The green beans are insanely good. There really is nothing I didn’t enjoy. Do yourself a favor and try them out. The pricing of menu items is fair and reasonable. The location is a little odd (wouldn’t expect such a gem there) but had plenty of parking. I’ve only eaten at the restaurant once (precovid) but have done several takeout orders when on that side of town. You’ll love it!
Fantastic new Chinese place with a focus on Sichuan flavors. I had the fish in hot chili oil and it was perfectly seasoned and very generous portions. They also have classic Chinese-American dishes like Orange Chicken so families with picky eaters can enjoy this place as well. The interior of the restaurant is also well appointed and clean with a modern feel.
WOW. We were thoroughly impressed with this place and it is a new favorite in our household. You cannot get more authentic than Chuan cafe. The quality and value of food is remarkable and the number of people who we saw making takeout orders while we were there was testament to that.
If you come here, prepare for real-deal Chinese food. This was our second time here and we had the szechuan chili wontons, toothpick lamb (a FAVORITE), chonqing noodles and the chuan’s beef noodle soup. All were fantastic. If you try a dish like the beef noodle soup and chonqing spicy noodles, be prepared to have a mouth numbing sensation that is due to the Szechuan peppercorn. We were both pleasantly surprised by this.
The owner and staff are also extremely kind, helpful and make for a wonderful experience. We will definitely be coming back.
Probably the most authentic Szechuan food I've had. This includes places in New York and Philadelphia. The owner is super friendly and offers great service. If you want a TRUE taste of Szechuan, China, you MUST try this place.
Real authentic Chinese food absolutely love it!!!
As someone from Chongqing I must say this is the best Sichuan cuisine I can ever find in the triangle area! It's very authentic, especially the spicy sauce in the cold dishes. That's the spirit of it! Highly recommended.
This is the real deal for Sichuan Chinese in Raleigh. Every meal has been great and they are super friendly. It's also legitimately spicy. If you ask for it hot, it will be 🔥.
The food here is bomb! Likely the best I’ve had in the triangle so far. It’s a little pricier than a lot of spots around town but so worth it. Can’t wait to come back!
So I stumbled on this place by accident … I was going to the pizza place but they were closed … so I landed here…. And from the outside … it looks questionable and I wasn’t sure if it would be any good. Looks were definitely deceiving and this place was a hidden GEM! From the moment I walked in the door…. It’s very clean and the decor is minimal but very chic … it wasn’t super busy and the food was very fresh and huge portion sizes… my meal and beverage was $20 with leftovers! This was a very happy accident! 10/10 definitely recommend!
