They were good enough that we went twice while in town. I didn’t take photos of the second visit, but the fish tacos ranked higher than the chicken I had the night prior. The fries and dips were yummy for the app. They do use shared fryer so celiacs beware. They have a dress code, but didn’t kick us out. There’s gluten free beer here and ciders. Definitely sign up for the rewards program if you come more than once.
Visited this fine establishment to satisfy our late night munchies after hitting some breweries pretty hard first day in town. It came recommended from a friend and did not disappoint.
I don't recall our bartenders name but we could tell he was well experienced. Just the perfect amount of conversation and kept our cold, fermented beverages coming. The dry rub wings were as good as I've had anywhere. Would definitely return my next trip to RVA.
Fabulous meal here tonight. Laid back vibe, easy to spend lots of time with friends. There are some Polish selections on the menu and I had to try the pierogi. They did not disappoint. There is a music venue next door and this is the perfect spot for before or after the show snacks.
For some reason I didn't get the advertised happy hour prices and didn't realize it until I left and was adding up what I had. Some of the beers are way over priced for single pours so the 64oz options are WAY WAY better. Can't go wrong with the pretzel.
Very good service and selection. They were a bit understaffed the night we went but the server was awesome and managed everything well. The food was fresh and there were a lot of drink selections. I’m a hard cider fan and they had a few really good ones on tap. Definitely a good late night spot.
I have to start by saying I thought this review would be going ina different direction give on our initial impression when we arrives. We arrived between 2-3 and the place wasn't busy. We were a party of 7 but got seated immediately which was a nice surprise. After that we were left for 20 minutes without any type of acknowledgement. The sevrer who seemed to be working our area was happily serving smaller groups that had arrived after us but couldn't be bothered to stop by our table. We were thinking of leaving but we decided to talk to the hostess who apologized and said someone would be right over. A server from another section came over took our drink and food orders and apologized for having to wait so long. Our experience ou got better from there. We ordered the pretzel appetizer with fruit cheese and sausage and it was absolutely amazing! I could have happily made that my meal. Fried pickles were light and crispy and quite delicious. Sis and I also shared the Irish coddle which while not the prettiest of dishes was freaking delicious. Brother in law was happy with his corned beef sandwich. Our sever was wonderful and attentive and totally turned our experience around. If they can get more servers like him along with their amazing food would totally be a 5 star place to eat at.
This is a must to stop if your in the Richmond area or a local that forget it was here. There are 2 levels and each one has a different selection of beers. Good music and cold beer. The staff are nice and the GM is legit; and out there in the mix making us all happy campers.
We went for a chill evening that our friend was making us come try, so we did just that. It was a quiet nite which we liked because you get to really see the place and take in what is offered. They do have bands play, stage and all and that goes great for the entertainment nights! We made our way to the basement and chilled out with a few appetizers and some drinks. We had some cool drinks. 1 beer tasted like grape soda literally, it was kinda scary. the flavor, definitely something that can get you in trouble trouble! Sorry, my memory is the worst, I can't recall the name of the beer. Along with the appetizers was a pool table and some darts. The downstairs was cool, the outside patio is the jem!! The nachos however depend on who is making them for the night...
Bret was the bartender / waiter / server
He was a 1 man show. We dropped in a party of 13 and we came for a late dinner.
Bret really needed help and was alone downstairs.
We waited a long while and when Bret finally brought us the food it was cold. Bret was very apologetic and concerned for us.
He was excellent but the set up for service at least this time on a Wednesday night was not good.
Great ambience!!!
Capital Ale House, which is connected to the Richmond Music Hall, allowed us to grab a couple of beers during an Amanda Shires show. The food was sadly forgettable, but the beer selection leaves nothing to be desired.
As a burger lover I have to tell this Burger was really good. A good American burger.
The fries were also good, Im glad they make them themselves. The sauce was also perfect.
I had the burger with a few selections of lager and wheat beers, perfect accompaniments. Excellent pub👌👍
Fast and good service
Like the menu says, they own late night if you're looking for food or live music past 9pm. Our server was incredibly helpful to three out-of-towners, happily offering up fantastic drink recommendations based on what we liked. The food isn't just a "well this is the only option" either, and was delicious. Very cool vibes and will certainly visit again when coming back for work.
We were in Richmond for a Graduation from VCU. We had a total of 17 in our party and the Capital Ale House accommodated us with no problems. The food was great and our server (Jay C) was attentive, courteous, and helpful with what to order. I had the Wurst Platter (Bratwurst, Knockwurst, and Polish Sausage), it was amazing. I also took a slice of Apple pie to go. I wish I would’ve tasted it there, I would have tried to buy a whole pie. It was the best I have ever had. And unfortunately I live about an hour and a half away so I can’t get it all the time. Definitely recommend it when you go.
Food was really good. The lighting was really dark for 11am, but ok. The service was great other than my friend asked for no mushroom gravy and they put mushroom gravy on her food (she is allergic).
Plenty of beer options, with great descriptions on their menu. Ordered a margarita flat bread, it wasn't terrible but also not amazing. Service was good. Chill atmosphere.
We hosted a rehearsal dinner at the Capital Ale in Richmond In Sept 2023. Jennifer and her crew were spot on - competent, responsive and executed flawlessly. Food and drinks were good, and served timely. Deserts were awesome. There were zero issues and we had a great time. Thank you, Jennifer.
We used to come to capital often. I wish they will put a touch tune box . The music really does sucks and i know they will have a better clientele. They need to update the music situation! Vinny is a great bartender and he deserves to be the employee of the month, for the next 12 months.
