I can’t tell you where Short Pump begins, what a census designated area is, or why this place that’s seemingly outside the Richmond city limits has a Richmond address.
What I can tell you is that Deep Run Roadhouse is a reason to make the 25 minute-ish drive west from downtown. And while I can’t say any one particular item is “the absolute best” in the Richmond area, the ribs, pulled pork, and brisket are all solid. Add in the side of hush puppies and I’m a happy diner.
If you find yourself in this area (whatever it is) this is a much better option than any of the chains heading back on W Broad St or probably any of the non chains (if you can find any) around there.
Bottom Line: this is BBQ that’s worth the drive
We hired Deep Run Roadhouse for our wedding and it was the BEST decision we made!! They were incredibly helpful while picking out our menu and very thorough with details at our final walkthrough. On the wedding day, the staff was very professional and on top of everything. All 19 of our tables were fed through the buffet quickly with great portion sizes, and my husband and I were plated the second we sat down. The food was AMAZING, and we now have leftovers for days! Deep Run bussed the tables and kept the venue tidy from cocktail hour all the way until the night was over. I cannot recommend them enough to cater your wedding!!
Attended a wedding that was catered by Deep Run Roadhouse. The food and staff were fabulous! The pork BBQ was delicious and the rolls and cornbread awesome. I also had the roasted sweet potatoes which was unbelievably delicious and I don’t normally eat sweet potatoes. They were not too sweet and not too bland. Perfect! Will call them when I have the need for catering.
I like the bbq here, but love the fried catfish. $8 for a 3 piece but so good!
Lots of homemade sides like mac & cheese and collards.
Staff is great and friendly. Beer selection is low but local.
Deep Run Roadhouse catered our son and daughter-in-law’s wedding reception. The staff were absolutely amazing and cared for our every need. And the food, oh my gosh, it was just incredible!! The brisket, pulled pork and chicken were cooked to perfection. The Mac n cheese melts in your mouth and the sweet potatoes are so flavorful! To Kevin, Emerson and the rest of the catering staff - thank you for making this evening so wonderful for our family and friends!! We recommend Deep Run Roadhouse to everyone!!
You can find the usual suspects here: pulled pork and chicken, brisket, etc., as well as some atypical fare like Cuban sandwiches and tacos for a BBQ place. They have a somewhat larger number of sides to choose from also – all of which are made from scratch. In fact, they have a dish called The Trainwreck available that combines a good number of these together in a bowl or burrito with your choice of meat. Definitely get the burrito at least once! The place is in a bit of a sleepy neighborhood, so don’t worry about parking or having to wait much at all. It’s also worth mentioning that they tend to be a little cheaper than most of the other BBQ spots in Richmond.
Our dinner was amazing! Pulled pork was very tasty and the waffle fries were the best I’ve ever tasted. We even treated ourselves to cornbread, which is always delicious. Deep Run Roadhouse remains one of our favorite restaurants in the area!
We had Deep Run Roadhouse cater our wedding and we received SO many compliments on how amazing the food was. Myself and the groom honestly thought the food tasted better at our wedding than the wedding tasting itself! Definitely recommend as they are so easy to work with and provide great food and staff for everyone to enjoy.
Brisket sandwich was very good, as were the brisket tacos! Big fan of the waffle fries and the chocolate pie was yummy. $70 for 2 people but to be fair we went all out and feasted! No regrets and would definitely recommend!
One of the better barbecue restaurants in Richmond. Menu goes beyond pulled pork and ribs, including such things as portabella mushroom sandwich. Beer menu is not extensive, but is mostly local beers -- both bottled and on tap. Catering is available and there is a large room in the back for groups. I wish I could comment on the desserts, but I've always been too full after eating to try one. As expected, there are not many vegetarian options, but the portobello sandwich is quite good. The beer menu is decent. Counter service only. There is a brisk business in take-out. The seating has been reduced, making dining-in a little more challenging.
