It was our good fortune to choose Metzger Bar and Butchery this evening for Friday during Richmond Restaurant Week.....What a delightful experience! An imaginative cocktail list, fun appetizers, and delicious Main courses.... (I had the Wiener Schnitzel, and Fou Foust had a huge pork chop with perfect spaetzle!). The staff were efficient, friendly, & cute....We will be back, and soon!
Very cool atmopshere, waitress was very sweet and knowledgable. Food was tasty! Different foods for the rva area. Went for the wed date night special and well worth it!
We enjoyed your "Wednesday Date Night" special so much. A three-course meal with a bottle of wine for $50- can't beat that. We ordered the Schupfnudeln (potato dumplings ) and Schnitzel. I highly recommend this mid-week outing as a break from the norm!
Great dinner last night. Friendly staff, excellent food & drink, nice crowd. Recommend you give it a try.

What an amazing dinner!! The pork chop was thick and perfectly cooked. Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and had a great personality... The schnitzel looked like a must try, so we'll see you again soon!
Perfect brunch or dinner option for the special German(s) in your life :)

Delicious Easter brunch! The schnitzel was perfect and the eggs in cocotte was deliciously rich, creamy and flavorful. Great service. May be my favorite Richmond restaurant.
We had brunch today and the latke and lox dish and cheddar, chive, bacon, and bacon fat biscuit were both delicious!
Great place with delicious food. Schnitzel is so crisp and tasty. Perfectly cooked!
Our second time at Metzger & the food was just as amazing as the first time, you must have a reservation as seating is limited. But where else can you go, get two drinks, an appetizer & two entrees, all exceptional fine dining quality & walk out with $100 check. We love this place & will continue to support them.
Unique, delicious food and awesome atmosphere and service!
We had an amazing brunch here! Really interesting and tasty entrees and a delicious bloody mary. My friend and I both agreed the sausage patties were the best we've ever tasted. Our server was also great and very accommodating to requests. Would definitely return for brunch and would love to try dinner options some time. Thanks for a lovely experience!
Had an amazing dinner here. The service was impeccable and the staff were exceptionally knowledgeable and friendly. They were sensitive to dietary restrictions and were willing to make minor modifications upon request. The food was artful and delicious! Would recommend as a place to try if you are visiting Richmond.
Such a lovely experience. Fresh and innovative food, fabulous drinks, ambiance was intimate and the staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. Can’t wait to come back and try more of the menu.
Really cute hidden gem; great to have a low-key fine dining experience with friends and family. Would not recommend for parties larger than 6 people as it’s a small venue. Would 1000% recommend for girls night dessert, appetizer and drinks. Loved everything, but feel their German influence/inspiration/origins have been buried by the creative oeuvre of the chefs. Not complaining but miss having traditional german dishes and this used to be the place for that. Most of the menu is perfectly contemporary and complex in flavor, but the entrees were either too small or too salty. Loved the wine that was recommended to us, but was shocked by the wine prices. Just can’t get cheap good wine outside of Europe I guess. They have very friendly service staff; we will definitely be back.
Love this place! Great brunch! Third time we have been here, and I love how the menu is always different. Pork schnitzel and eggs were fantastic. Creative cocktails. We'll definitely come back the next time we're in RVA.
Very fun experience trying such a interesting and adventurous menu here! I loved the patio seating and the attentive and friendly service from our waitress. My favorite things we tried were the tapioca pudding dessert with figs, grapes, and shortbread and the mussel broth with the toast points. To me, the schnitzel was a little salty and had a prominent flavor of the oil it was fried in. This main and the cheese appetizer needed something sweet to balance the dish out. Overall an enjoyable experience!
easily one of the best restaurants in richmond. the elegance of the textural blends, flavor combinations that are simultaneously comforting and nuanced are divine. the meyer lemon sorbet was stunning, the schnitzel was shockingly light and carefully paired with a celery salad and the daintiest mustard. love.
I just loved everything about it. one of my favorite meals I've had since moving to Virginia. Service was fantastic, we shared a bunch of plates at the table and loved every bite. (The Schnitzel is to die for). The cocktails (both the on-the-menu specials and just standard cocktails) were excellent, and definitely get the dessert.
My husband and I are adventurous foodies. Before heading to Richmond, I just finished the last season of Top Chef where James Beard semifinalist Chef Brittanny Anderson, a VA native, competed. I told Steve that we have to try her resto and craft beers.
Here’s what we had:
1. Charcuterie Board - fine selection of meat and cheese. But the star of this plate is the chicken liver mousse paired with cornichons. Sounds gross, right? But no. It’s very creamy and dreamy and just friggin’ heaven in your mouth!
2. Halibut with sea bean salad and pistachio. That squid ink romesco sauce hugging that juicy tender halibut was pure love. I wanted to bathe in that sauce.
3. Schnitzel with pickled veggies. That schnitzel was crisped to perfection. This dish changed my mind about pickled celeries. It’s damn good.
4&5. Black pepper paplova - Who would’ve thought that black pepper will go well with desserts? Outside was a red sauce of lemon verbena and raspberries and when you crack that paplova, you’ll have a buried treasure of frozen yogurt and berries. I drank that red sauce like soup.
6. Stonefruit gallette was crispy and not overly sweet. That whipped creme fraische was to die for!!!
Definitely one of our best eats and dining experiences in Richmond so far. This little gem did the Germans proud!
PS: Kahlia was an awesome server!

My husband and I tried this place for brunch today. It was both our first time here, but it will definitely NOT be our last. The food was absolutely amazing! Delicious! We split the Pork Schnitzel with gravy and the Charcuterie Board. All we could manage to say in between bites were things like “Wow!” And “How have we not been here before?!”. So freakin’ good! My Brunch Punch drink paired well with the food. 1000% recommend
Run, do not walk to Metzger Bar & Butchery! The food is so delicious, the service amazing and the atmosphere incredible. I saw the chef on Triple Threat with Bobby Flat on the Food Network and when they shared she had a German restaurant in Richmond, VA I could not wait to make reservations (bonus points that she is a fellow Midwestern like myself). I went into the meal with very high expectations and I assure you they exceeded those expectations ten fold. We started with the radicchio salad which was amazing with a cashew tahini. I had the schnitzel and my husband got a beef cheek, both were delicious and we finished every bite. I grew up with my Omi cooking all of the most delicious things and when I tell you Metzger gave me all of the warm loving feelings with food as Omi's kitchen did, that is no under statement. As my husband and I waited for our Uber after the meal we agreed that it was probably one of the best meals we have ever had. If the food is not enough to get you there, the service is outstanding. The staff was friendly, shared recommendations, super informative and made the meal even better. Thank you so much Metzger Bar & Butchery for an incredible experience. We can't wait to come back.
Made reservations for a group of 6. We were sat immediately as they were properly prepared for us. Our people slowly trickled in and we mingled for a good amount of time and were well tended to.
We each were served our delicious meals and the schnitzel was fantastic. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals as well.
The ambiance is great in the restaurant. It doesn't make you feel like you're in Bavaria or anything but it is very nice and quaint.
Will definitely be back for brunch and also want to try dinner at some point.
Tried to come here during RVA restaurant but I got sick. I'm glad i made it here during Memorial Day weekend for a Sunday brunch.
This place has a lot of character. Bar has wal to wall subway tiles. Funky 70s tiles on the ceiling.
Based on the recommendations, I got the Dutch Baby. Such warm goodness with s creamy sweetness in addition to strawberry and Blueberry. My wife got the chicken schnitzel. Holy cow, the breading was amazing while the chicken was thin and tender. Plus, the bacon was very smoky and well done.
Definitely coming back during dinner.
I'm a huge fan of Brenner Pass, so of course I couldn't wait to finally make it over to Metzger. It didn't disappoint!
Two visits so far; one just for cocktails and the other for dinner. The employees are warm and welcoming; they make you feel at home right away. We love sharing small plates and this is perfect for us. Cocktails are uniquely crafted and well balanced. Courtney, Rachel and Kjell will surely take great care of you!
Can't wait to make our way through the menu and to stop in for brunch one Sunday.

This was better than I remember it. The fresh take on locally sourced food. Cocktails are amazing. Overall dinning experience is lovely. Staff friendly and attentive. One of our favorites spots.
Metzgers is an intimate dining experience with immaculate attention to details such as quality ingredients and creative presentation. The restaurant is small and unpretentious, but the food and cocktails are surprisingly elevated and feature a constantly rotating menu of exciting seasonal cuisine. You get the impression that everyone who works there has both experience and passion for their art, and that you could take anyone from your boss to your new date to your most critical foodie friend there to impress without, well, seeming like you’re trying to impress. It’s truly a gem, and I look forward to dining there again.
Great food, wonderful atmosphere.
The one star reviews are all fake. They are done for political reasons, none of them have ever been to Metzger or even live in the state.
Very fancy and good cuisine. Nothing to complain about that, this a very good true/real restaurant. But the quantities could be a bit bigger or some plates have something that fills a bit. Desserts are great too
