Had a wonderful dinner tonight!! Prices were very reasonable and everything was DELICIOUS! We had two tacos, two pupusas, and a torta. It was plenty of food for two people! They were sadly short staffed but the servers were excellent and very kind.
This place was great. I went with 2 friends from work for a moment away from the office and was pleasantly surprised by the Peruvian flavor.
The complimentarychips were really crispy and salted just enough, and they came with what seemed like an extremely watery salsa to dip them in. At first, it seemed like it wouldn't be good, but the taste quickly won me over.
It seemed that papusas were a specialty, so we tried them. You can mix and match what filling you want, so I tried 3 different options: potato & cheese, shrimp & cheese, and bean & cheese. They were really good although I couldn't tell them apart because they were all so good.
I also had a side or rice and beans that were flavored pretty nicely.
There aren't a lot of drink choices, so we went with the jarritos punch. It's like a dark, almost grape tasting juice that grows on you with each sip.
I would absolutely go back to try something else.
Absolutely heavenly food. I've had both the chimichanga and steak torta sandwich. Both were excellent. Not to mention the prices for the meals are really good. Will be going back many many times.
Food was very good. Went there on a whim based on Google's reviews and it was a pleasant surprise.

When you sit down ask for a couple of servings of it because you'll run out with your chips.
The salsa verde and the salsa roja that came with the tacos were just ok.
Went for lunch with a friend, this place is your stereotypical hole in the wall. Unassuming building, stellar food, they had the best salsa & chips I've had since Pescado's in Midlothian closed due to the pandemic. I could've pigged out on those but I still had lunch to eat, so onto the main course.
I ordered four Pupasas, two shrimp & cheese, and two pork, beans & cheese. These were delicious, and came with a Pupasa sauce which is pretty much standard, nothing special with the sauce. However the jalapeño slaw that came on the side was awesome, and I wound up overeating, because I wanted to finish everything.

The pupusas. Have very good taste but. It’s more like fried cheese very delicious very small. Way small pupusas again. They delicious. You will. Need about 8 pupusas to feed an adult.
Let’s work on them pupusas the size. Make them bigger to justify. $2.75 per. In the mean. Time. Visit. Tako Tako. They are making. Very authentic pupusas .
Love the Pupusas. Steak torta is to die for. Locally owned, can’t say enough good things about this place. Definitely a local gem.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Richmond. Every time we've been there (which is probably over 20 times) the food has been incredible. I could eat my weight in papusas and don't even get me started on the torta El pastor 🫠. It's a low key place, no frills, and an excellent price point.

I'm originally from sf, and there were a lot of restaurants I frequent when I want pupusas. When I came to Virginia, I thought I would find anything good until I came here! The pupusas from El Pope were of the same quality as to ones I would get in sf! The salsa roja was on point! I will be making a point to come here, specifically, when I have a craving.
The food is delicious and affordable. No matter what you do, GET THE YUCCA FRIES! my personal favorite pupusa is the shrimp and cheese. Food takes a little longer but it’s always fresh and comes out hot. The guys who work here are also super nice!
Very delicious food and friendly atmosphere. Just one FOH member and one BOH so service is a bit on the slow side. Took a longer lunch break but that’s just fine. Carnitas, chicken adobo, regular pupusa, and El Pope rolls. All were very tasty. I especially enjoyed the rolls. Super surprising taste and flavor combination. I can’t wait to take my friends.
We stopped by at brunch time and even though theres not a specific brunch menu, we were pretty happy with our pupusas (zucchini and cheese, and potato and cheese) and veggie sopaipilla. Instead of chips they brought out fried plantains to snack on while we waited for our food and they came with a slightly sweet (and delicious) salsa. Very much recommend and cant wait to go back!
Food is so good! We go here a lot and the restaurant is always clean and organized and the food comes out fast! One of our favorite places to go for lunch in the Fan.
I absolutely love this place. This is a hidden gem in The Fan in Richmond. The owner is the chef and creates everything from scratch. The pupusas are gluten free and they are very accommodating to special requests. If you get a chance always try the pupusas. It's a great indicator of how authentic a Salvadorian place can be and these blew me away. Better than hole in the wall Salvadorian restaurants .They have a limited beer selection however they make up for it with a few signature cocktails. This is a very amazing family run little restaurant. Support your local businesses and pop in and give them a try. You will not regret it!

5 stars, every time. The papusas and curtito are the best I’ve ever had. I’ve eaten about 1/2 of the menu now and everything has been worth having again.
Stumbled across this place in search of brunch and I’m glad I did. Really some of the best food I’ve had in Richmond and all for a really good price. 100% recommend going.
Excellent all around experience. Friendly service, the waiter was very personable without being overbearing. Straight forward menu. We got pupusas, a sopapilla, and half of a chicken sandwich (forgot the exact term). Everything did not take long to come out and was overall stellar. Will be back, highly recommended.
I picked up brunch today; delicious! I had the shrimp and cheese, and bean and cheese pupusas. They are thick, yummy griddle cakes. The service was excellent; friendly and prompt. I will be sure to return soon.
