Take out review:
Update: Aug 12, 2021
After my first review, I continued ordering from Monsun every other week. Over the time I discovered many outrageously tasty dishes like the Samosa Chaat, Nawabi Chicken Korma, Shrimp tikka masala. The Korma requires a special mention, probably the best tasting Korma that I can remember. Its so creamy and sweet, and the chicken almost melts in the mouth. I don’t find much bones in the Goat Biryani anymore either. Monsun has become one of my staple food places for take outs while working from home.
Original Review:
I ordered a Goat dum Biryani and a chicken kati roll for lunch on a weekday via one of the delivery apps. The ordered was prepared and dispatched pretty fast, and arrived 20 minutes before the ETA. So that was impressive!!
I really liked the chicken kati roll. It had huge pieces of chicken and a nice blend of spices and sauce. The wrap was also soft and holding all the ingredients properly.
I wasn’t fond of the goat Biryani as much. It was very spicy for me even though I requested mild. So, their regular spice level might have been beyond my tolerance. The Biryani also had a lot of small pieces of bones, which made it annoying to eat the rice. But the quality of the goat was really good, I just wish they had removed most of the bones.
Despite the goat Biryani setback, I’ll consider ordering from them again, since that delivery app doesn’t have much Indian options near me.
Mom establishment (no pop), we were passing by, not from the area. The food tasted great. Service is okay, was not asked the service or food quality. Ambience is decent, parking plenty, we didn't like the portion of the food served to the price point. Westchester we get larger portion for the same price point. Best. The food tasted better than anything from Central NJ restaurants.
Wonderfully prepared. Each dish unique. So many Indian restaurants may serve mutiple dishes, but they all taste and are seasoned alike. Not so here. Freshly prepared, not oily, and very gracious service. Monsun really is a hidden gem and glad finally to have tried it after years of driving by!
Our family went here to celebrate my aunt's birthday a couple weeks ago, and to get my grandma out of the house for one of the few times during covid. First of all, my family can be a little hard to wait on. Not rude, just kind of strange requests and whatnot. But our server took care of us very well the entire time.
One of our family members had a hurt leg and needed to keep it raised. The server immediately got us an extra chair, no questions asked. When we first sat down, there was no music playing which made it a little awkward. We asked her about putting on music, and she immediately put on some wonderful Bollywood music videos on their huge TV. She took the time to take everyone's order and answer any questions. It was a bit much, but she handled all of us with patience, and she was knowledgeable on the food. The food did take a while to come out, but we were a large party, so fair enough. When it did though, everything was excellent. They told us what each dish was as they brought them out, which was helpful since we were sharing it all. At first, we were thinking we might not have ordered enough because it didn't look like alot. But we actually couldn't finish it all and had to take some home with us, and a few of us are pretty big eaters. We were stuffed, and it was all delicious.
At the end of the meal, we were asked about dessert and we replied that we were going back to the house for dessert, but when she saw it was my aunt's birthday, she brought out gulab jamun with a raspberry drizzle, one for each of us. That was really nice of her and an excellent way to wrap up the meal without filling us up too much for our later dessert. Also, I could tell that she treated our grandma with patience and extra respect, which was very nice to see.
I would also like to say that the two top bad reviews, one is complaining about the prices and the fact that they have signs up for a buffet they don't have anymore. With covid, food prices have doubled on many ingredients. Everyone has raised their prices. Just look at almost every other restaurant. And as for the buffet, the restaurant would probably love to have it back if covid ever allows it again. It's a pretty lame move to write a bad review on a place during covid, especially when the things you're complaining about are because of covid. Quality of food and service wasn't even mentioned. The other bad review says they didn't even bother to go because they don't like the restaurants responses. Well they're missing out because this place was excellent, and we received great service. Fair enough if you read reviews and don't want to go, but don't leave a bad review for a place you never tried. That's just stupid.
Anyway, thanks for the great night, Monsun. It meant alot to us as we don't get all of us together that often anymore. Keep doing what you're doing!
Quite expensive and they nickel and dime you on everything else (rice is extra, those crackers + sauces you get at every Indian place just for sitting down is extra here). Otherwise i thought the food we had was really tasty. I'm not sure if i would dine in again but i would do take out and provide my own rice.
It was fabulous ambience, ample spacious and amazing food. Even the reception and service is so good and homely. Normally if we say indian restaurant, every food item would be greasy. But here, it is very good.
Buffet is just $14.99. It has variety of options. Chicken tandoori, Lamb curry, Goat biryani were excellent. My kid also enjoyed a lot.
If anyone looking for great food at Indian restaurant with spacious and good ambience It is Monsun.
Wonderful ambience, very warm and welcoming staff.. not to forget a decent spread of menu with veg and non veg tasty food. the dessert.. The gulab jamoon was the best I had since India. The veg curries were just awesome. The staff was also nice and the Indian music they were playing was good too.
