I had the fried Oyster belly basket with fries and coleslaw. I also got a pint of freshly picked blueberries. Everything was amazing! He said the oysters were fresh today and I was the only person to order some today, which surprised me. I wish he still had blueberry cobbler when I got there but the fresh blueberries were an excellent substitute! Would definitely eat here again.
The only thing I didn't like was that the container didn't have a lid so driving away with the food was precarious.
He said that he is open on Mondays now.
Note to anyone unfamiliar: This is a take out stand. You park, walk up to the window, order and take your food away. There are chairs so you can sit down to wait but I didn't see any tables.
Best take-out stand in the state of Maine. The food is great, the menu is large and the service is fantastic. The parking lots is small and there isn't a lot of space here however, that just makes for a more personalized experience. The owner is super friendly and has a great taste in food. Once again, the variety is fantastic and the quality is very high. I haven't had anything I don't like here. The biggest downfall about this place is that it is closed in the winter. It makes sense but I just want to eat here all the time. If it gets busy, sometimes it can take a little while to get your food but that is pretty understandable. My favorite hot dog is the Thai Pooh Bear. There is peanut butter and Thai sauce on it. It is really great food. I am kind of sad that I am still writing about this place because it makes me miss it more because I am not there right now. Very dog friendly!
This is a great place to grab a bite. The owner usually works alone and the menu is huge. There are so many options and he makes them all with a smile. I got a cheeseburger and it was made perfectly and so cheesy. Prices are amazing. It was super busy right before we got there and he made everything as quickly as possible. He is so kind. He even gave us some hush puppies for free for waiting so long, which he didn't have to do, but he insisted and it was so kind. I would definitely stop there again!
The best kind of eatery! If you're looking for a lobster roll, as a Maine native, this is the best I've ever had eating out. Currently JJ's is charging $19 for the biggest lobster roll I've seen in the area--easily 2 lobster's worth of meat, compared to McLoon's which was $20 for half that much!
On my most recent trip I was kind of sad because I really really wanted to try the hush puppies, since my trip to NC last year I am kind of obsessed with those lil pups and was curious to see how JJ's were, but I was told the guy who makes the hush puppies hadn't made any today.
Not a bad thing, just that this snack shack is laid back like that! I love it, I wish more businesses would be chill like that. Our lives really shouldn't revolve around hush puppies. I'll try them next time :)
Couldn't have picked a better place to stop for lunch. JJ was super nice and a great cook.
I've only tried one thing but I have nothing but good comments!! I've been craving hush puppies since I moved up here and I couldn't fine any. I stopped here one day and they sold fresh and homemade hush puppies which are to die for! They remind me of home which I LOVE. They're delicious, fluffy, sweet and a little bit of savory! Owners are really nice and welcome, I will definitely be returning.

Amazing! So glad we stopped here. Everything on the menu sounds delicious. We had the Lonestar burger and fries, and Lobster Nuggets and Hush Puppies. The food was absolutely awesome. Milk Shakes are really good. John was super friendly and had some great tips for places to go around the area.
Great little roadside place to eat. Had the jalapeño burger and is was awesome. Good food at a great price. Only downside is the driveway, it’s small and most people don’t see or read the signs that you enter on the north side and exit on the south. Just enter on the right and then exit on the right when you leave and you’ll be fine.
Stopped for Lunch during a drive up the coast. JJ’s was great! Super friendly proprietor. Fried clam special was delicious. Clams were very tender. Perfectly seasoned hand cut fries. A great place to stop along the way
Every time my husband and I drive by, we always thought about stopping, but had already ate. Today, we finally stopped in and were not disappointed! This place has been recommended to me so many times, and the food was great! Everyone tells you to hit up Wasses, but this place has the best hotdogs! Not to mention, the menu is extensive and includes vegan options! Lots of dishes are tailored to regional cuisine, so if you're missing a po'boy or a coney dog while you're traveling here in the Midcoast, stop in and feed that craving here. The guy who owns this place was super nice and checked in on us while we ate and engaged in friendly conversation. There aren't a lot of places to sit and eat, while you're here, but don't let that deter you - he can make the food to-go. Prices are incredibly fair, including the price for a lobster roll when you compare to all the other locations around here that have them. Give this place a shot, you won't be disappointed!
Love this little place. Rick makes the biggest, juiciest burgers around!!!! Always nice to get a Yoo-Hoo too! Great variety from lobster to pulled pork!! To sum it up - satisfying, delicious and mmm, mmm, yum!!
Broke the mouth! Best burger I have ever eaten. Such great people here very kind and super dog friendly. A gem in Rockport Maine right along the coast on us rt1.
JJ's Snack Shack was located across the street from our hotel the Claddagh. We walked across the street to get the Lobster Roll, Pulled Pork Basket special and a Hot Dog and they were all AWESOME! Great food and service with a smile.
The service was extremely friendly and tentative. The food was outstanding. We ordered two different speciality hotdogs and both were made with top notch quality and care. Prices were very good as well.
Highly recommend and will be returning!
If you are all for roadside shacks, this is one that you should not miss! JJ's snack shack has like 4 or 5 pages of menu items, maybe more! Two of those pages are dedicated to amazing burgers and Hummel's hot dogs ( a full page of each! ) They have a full page of stuffed baked potatoes (Jacket Potato's for you Brits) with any kind of toppings you could think of. They also have some of the best whole clam bellies I have ever had!) And of course Lobstah! Fish and chips are on the menu as well as a whole lot of other great stuff! They also have deserts too! And best of all, the owner is pretty awesome too!
If you’re anywhere near Rockport, this is a must have. After just reading over the menu and having some short conversation with John (the man behind the window at JJ’s) it was evident that he’s passionate about what he does. It’s simple: He loves good food and loves to cook it for you. I had the best Haddock fish sandwich of my entire life at this joint. My fiancé had the fried catfish and said it was phenomenal. If seafood isn’t your thing, that’s ok! There are a TON of menu options. Probably 4 pages worth. The atmosphere of JJ’s felt like home - As if you were hanging out at a family cookout, enjoying the company and food. John goes out of his way to make sure every order is perfect, and that every customer is thoroughly satisfied. Basically: JJ’s Snack Shack is a badass food joint and a must-have if you’re ever in the area.
We were looking for a quick burger and fries meal. JJ's did not let us down. The Lone Star burger with jalapenos was great ,as well as the cheeseburger. Homemade burger and fries hit the spot.
I highly recomend this place. The owner puts 110% effort in to get quality ingredients. He will hancut potatoes for fries to order. The hot dog was amazing as well as the toppings. Many menu items are creative
