I cant understand why this place isn’t packed all the time being the best soup dumplings in the area. This cute little Chinese restaurant next to Carmen’s frozen ice and custard in Rockville is the secret MVP of dumplings. Delicious pork soup dumplings, pan fried dumplings and on the weekend pan fried soup dumplings 🤯🤯🤯 so good. Super nice staff as well. Fair prices for great food.
The dim sum, dumplings, and egg drop soup at this were all fabulous! Though you might not expect much just by walking by, but this place is packed with a whole lot of love and flavor. Definitely don't miss out on the dim sum with glutinous rice, soup dumplings or the pork dumplings! Service here was great - staff was friendly and helpful even though we ordered like 7 things on the menu. Definitely coming back and bringing more friends to Shanghai Taste!
We got orange chicken, beef with broccoli, jumbo shrimp w veg, and hot and sour soup. Everything was great, the best chinese food in months. The soup wasn’t too spicy but very flavorful. FYI the soup isn’t vegetarian, had chicken. The orange chicken was sticky and crunchy. None of the sauces were thin and watery.
Came here for dinner before our flights, it didn’t disappoint with the handmade Xiao Long Bao which you can also see as soon as you walk in the store with their glass window showing the ladies making them.
Their beef noodle soup hit the spot for me especially with the tender beef, and the and the stir fried rice cake noodles were also very flavorful with the right amount of spice.
Overall service is very good, the waiter was very attentive and gave us a pot of tea and water as soon as we sat down.
Bathroom is nice and clean- a good sign of restaurant cleanliness and hygiene overall!
I have had Spicy Crispy Beef in many places in Maryland. This one is very good. The beef is tender and the sauce is not too sweet. It could be a bit spicier (I will ask for this next time) and have more shredded carrots. The size of the order is also large enough for two or three people. Excellent find if you like this dish.
It’s hard to find Gi Chai pork rice cake in Rockville restaurants. I’m so glad they provide the option to customize it. It tastes delicious, and the portion is good. Highly recommended to order it!
Read reviews about their soup dumplings and wanted to order but there menu is huge and was little confused by wat to order. Here are my recommendations 1. Soup Dumplings (4.5/)- Good flavor and soup was excellent.
2. Spicy wontons (5/5)- not that spicy and a must order
3. Shanghai braised Duck (5/5)-Amazing amazing, tender duck with great flavor. It doesn’t come with rice so you have to order rice separately.
4. Crispy Scalion pie (4/5) - It had a nice crisp to it but lacked a bit of flavor.
5. Shumai stuffed gluttonous rice (4/5)- it’s good but needs some flavor to it.
6. Pork Bun (3/5) - The bun was good but the filling lacked taste.

Travelled way out of DC for the famed pan-fried pork dumplings. It's one of the few places in the US that actually makes them (but only on weekends). They were good but half of them didn't have any soup inside, and we're more bready than the ones you'd find in Shanghai. That said, this place does have alot of dishes that would be hard to find in other restaurants serving Shanghai fair. A very authentic establishment, but the dumplings are just slightly off mark.
Juicy, flavorful, and robust Xia Long Bao!! Not always easy to find but you'll find it here at Shanghai Taste. You're welcome.
Customer service was great, food was ready fairly fast! (The young lady working the front had a lively, fun personality and was very helpful!) Also, ordered the Crispy Eggplant - great texture, a bit on the sweet side but still oh so good, addicting, and filling! Oh and try the Winton with Red Hot Sauce.
Btw, Folks - support Small Business and don't order through Third Party food delivery apps! They take a big chunk of restaurants meager profit, your food is delivered to you along the way food is delivered to other customers, so it's likely to arrive cold and slow. Just call Shanghai Taste DIRECTLY and pick it up yourself for the best, fastest, freshest experience!!
Super delicious and homemade style! Just wish they have the Chinese pancakes and the panfri dumplings during weekdays as well!

This is the one and only place in the DC area that serves the classic and beloved Shanghai style soup dumpling. It is definitely worth the drive up to Rockville, Maryland, as the dumplings are delicious. There are many other excellent options on the menu, including vegetarian choices (but be aware that the soup dumplings come only with porc filling). I only wish that the dumplings were more soupy and less bready...
I love love this place. First of all, I’ve been greeted by Emily quite often, and she has customer service down pat! The food there is quite good even if the surroundings are unassuming. I love the Singapore noodles, always tasty. Don’t pass this restaurant by, people! You won’t regret it! ;)
If you've never had soup dumplings then do yourself a favor and come here and try them! pictured but I come here for the soup dumplings. In the rockville area, there isnt a more affordable and legitimate soup dumpling. If you think Bob's Shanghai has good soup dumplings (soooooooo over priced) then you need to come here. For less than 14 dollars, we got 2 orders and each order had like 7 or 8 dumplings! (At Bob's it was like 16-18 for 6 per order). The wontons were also really good; soaking in delicious chili oil concoction its a nice treat. I would definently recommend this place. I got some other things too, but my friend who speaks chinese ordered them and I didnt get a chance to ask them what the other dishes were called. Recommend! Especially if youve never had soup dumplings!
We stopped here for a quick lunch after a nearby open house. The wonton soup was only $1.75 and delicious (no MSG headache), and generous wonton portion. The beef and broccoli was sautéed nicely and the beef perfectly textured (not too chewy, and not too soft). Delicious!
