I read all of the mixed reviews but was compelled to still try a family restaurant that we visited as a child growing up and traveling to NC. We were traveling for a funeral and decided to stop at Gardner's for lunch before the funeral. It was a group of 10 traveling from MD and VA. We were greeted

Used to go to Gardner,s all the time. Haven't been in a couple of years. Thought I would give it another try. Wish I hadn't. I got a plate of vegetables mostly. Green beans, potatoes, cabbage. There was so much crushed pepper, hot sauce, and grease on there it was absolutely disgusting and so spicy

Gardeners is and continues to be a tradition. The dishes are as diverse and representative as the people and places they come from. The staff is amazing and hospitable to a level that is rare these days. Thank you for all you do.

"BBQ" is true eastern Carolina style vinegar and pepper sauce which is to be expected in eastern Carolina... But most places at least have other options for the majority of people that do not prefer this style. They did not. Meat is kitchen cooked, not smoked. No bread on the buffet unless you count

GREAT barbecue and buffet. Everything I tasted was delicious...especially the collards and dumplings. I also tasted the slaw, macaroni and cheese, chicken, barbecue and some other vegetables. I wanted more of everything but was too full so am planning to go back soon so I can try everything else.

Drive thru is just EXTREMELY slow... Y'all gotta pluck the chickens back in the kitchen or something? Waited 45+ minutes for a 4 piece... Yikes. 😣

We always try to stop here on our way through the state. Gardner's has been here for years for very good reason. The food is delicious! Enjoy a buffet of good Southern cooking with the locals before getting back on the rat race that is I-95.
