We had a really great experience here!! The waiter was quick, funny, friendly, and remembered everything without writing it down. The portions are huge! 10/10 would recommend visiting. Very clever having the menu disguised as a newspaper, definitely putting that one in the scrapbook. Overall, a great experience. Thank you.
Black bear diners are always a welcome treat for when you want that home cooked meal. The food is always good and the portions are amazing. I have not been disappointed with the food when going to different locations and this one is just a great. Service was a little lacking(as is most places since covid) and the tables and bench could use some work as the bench upholstery I sat in was completely falling apart. Even though there was only one waiter serving the entire side of the restaurant he was working fast and getting everyone service. The food came out fast and was delicious. I would definitely eat here again just for the food.
Deep is SO GREAT, he made sure my partner and I were well taken care of. Our food was promptly ready and he got everything done so quickly. And the guy is a riot! Love him and love Black Bear! If you're not lucky enough to be dining when Deep is there, come back again asap so you can hopefully get in his section! Will be coming again soon!
Was very cautious about returning here, but very happy we did, service was great, dinner was awesome. Noticed changes in the restaurant, very clean and inviting. Met the new manager and complimented him on the great changes. WE WILL BE BACK FOR BREAKFAST SOON!

Had an absolutely AMAZING EXPERIENCE here today! Deep was so charismatic, so attentive and brought smiles to our faces when we walked into the door. You'll be seeing us a lot more here thanks to this massive improvement to such a fantastic establishment! Thanks again, Deep! 🐻
When we walked in, it was busy. Fortunately, a table was available. Breakfast(California Omelette) was delicious, well prepared and presented. I did notice the employees were working like a well oiled machine. Customers arrived and were seated almost immediately. We will be back!
Dined on Sat,11/25 ..noticed a change as my husband & I sat. Friendly,fast waiter who told us that it was a new management. He didn't spend a lengthy time to write our orders. He remembered well. Great portion,couldn't finish mine 😅
Our visit was excellent from start to finish. The host, who was new working there, was very courteous as he showed us to our seat. Our waiter, Victor, went out of his way to answer our questions, make sure we were happy with our food, and refill our drinks. He was very personable. Great service. We definitely will go there again.
Arrived mid afternoon. Place was vacant, staff friendly and plenty of parking. Ordered steak and eggs. The eggs were 5 stars and when the steak cooled down it was a little tough. Overall not a bad experience. Great stop from San Jose to Santa Rosa to meet a friend. I believe every was very reasonable.
This was one of the most pleasant experiences we’ve had at a black bear diner. Our server who was also the manager, Deep, was fantastic. Very attentive, kind, and fixed anything we needed help with during our meal. He alone made the dining experience 5 stars. Thank you Deep! We will be back.

Copious quantity of fine tasting food.
I'm upping my rating. I normally give 4 stars for any establishment typical of its chain. The Black Bear chain of restaurants is above the norm. Henceforth, barring any difficulties, I will rate all Black Bear dinners with 5 stars.
The wait staff was great and even made helpful menu suggestions. I had the chicken fried steak and it was the best chicken fried steak I have ever had 10/10 would order again.
New manager (Deep) did a great job, made sure we were seated promptly, waitress was very efficient, food was great.

Deep; a restaurant lead, was our server for the evening. He met us immediately wirh a smile, and got my friend and I a nice booth. He answered all our questions on menu items and specials, I ordered the prime rib special, and my friend a similar dish. Deep was friendly and timely with exceptional customer service. The food quality was top notch, as well as the service. Another facet of our visit I enjoyed was the mellow music being played in the background. Sometimes I've been to places that have good food and service; but their background music is loud and clangy! Black Bear on the other hand, had a softer volume and mellow musical score, which made the atmosphete most enjoyable. My friend and I give Black Bear Diner and our server, deep, Five Stars. Thank you Deep, for providing first class customer service. We'll be back soon.
The food was delicious at this location. However, they need to invest in re-upholstery of their seats. And the Female Hostess needs Diversity Training that African Americans are not going to put up with being seated in such horrible conditions. Other Patrons who entered after we did, were not offered these seats...but my 88 year old Mother and I were. But, I refused to sit there. Take a look at the photos of the seats. We went to Black Bear Diner to have their Corned Beef and Cabbage special the week of St. Patrick's Day. We all had the Corned Beef with different styles of potatoes. We all enjoyed the meal immensely. As usual, their portions are large, so several slices of the Corned beef were brought home in a box (anticipate that there will be sandwiches tomorrow.)
Our Server Tony is great at his job. The only thing that was not so good was the country potatoes the cook over seasoned them with parsley or what ever the green herb was supposed to be. We will definitely come back l.
Waiter Victor (Deep) is amazing. He never wrote the order for our party of 7; figured meals would probably come out to wrong individuals or not as ordered. Everything was perfect. Also a very pleasant person. He is the 5 stars for this diner.
