I've spent most of my life as a bodybuilder, chugging protein and flexing. Now that I'm older, I've cut back on the meat and have swapped flexing muscles for a flexitarian diet.
Much of what I eat is plant based and Happy Veggie Garden's offerings fit the bill. The food here is flavorful, served piping hot, and quickly allays any fears that vegetarian food is bland.

I recommended this place if you are near by.

Always delicious and excellent vegan food! Since I have been here last, they have done a little bit of remodeling and modernized their look. There are a few more menu items, but they still have the amazing favorites it's like orange peel chicken nuggets and the tofu and eggplant hot pot. I wish I lived closer.

The restaurant has been remodeled since we last visited many years ago. It's a little brighter and more open than before. As usual, the restaurant is not crowded, and we're seated right away.
This is a Buddhist vegetarian restaurant where they do not use garlic, onion, scallion, leek, and chives. Menu includes appetizer, vegetables, "meats," and soup. Note that the "meats" or "chicken" are soy based or mushroom based products. The pricing is a little high (each dish at $10 or higher) for the area as lunch special only applies on weekdays. You can choose to order a la carte or do all-you-can eat for ~$16 per person.
HOUSE SPECIAL SOUP: sweet potato leaves and tofu - unique flavor of sweet potato leaves
ORANGE CHICKEN: although the sauce was a bit heavy, as orange chicken usually is, the texture of "chicken" was quite crispy outside and tender on the inside
EGGPLANT AND TOFU POT: stir-fried with basil, this was a hit at our table
BAMBOO WITH SHREDDED BEAN CURD: we asked for hot sauce on the side as some people can't take the spice, and this dish losts its flavors
VEGETABLE WITH MUSHROOM: freshly cooked, tasted okay
Rice: $1 per person with option of mung bean porridge ($1.25), brown rice, or white rice
Tea: $3 a pot with various tea selection

The food served here is basically the same as the stuff served at the Happy Family restaurants. I would say that the quality is slightly better, but the prices are definitely higher. I usually don't care to rate the service at a Chinese restaurant, but my order is usually wrong or missing something.
Would recommend choosing Happy Family on Colima and Fullerton instead.

I lovelovelove vegetarian restaurants because I can/want to eat almost everything on the menu! (picky eater alert here haha) Happy Veggie Garden was recommended to me by a friend and I came here with 2 of my friends for lunch on a Saturday.
FOOD:
- veggie chicken in curry sauce - yum! Good texture and great flavor to the curry
- eggplant with tofu hotpot - i LOVE eggplant and this was freaking damn delicious!! Cooked perfectly tender with a great sauce YUM! I wish it would've been more eggplant and less tofu haha but that's just me
- crispy oyster mushroom - lordy this isn't healthy at all! Basically oyster mushrooms sliced thinly and then fried lol. I thought it was a bit salty
- the complimentary salad they give you - nothing special, but they put togarashi in the dressing!
SERVICE:
Can't complain. No language barrier even though I speak chinese. Food came out quickly and tea was refilled fast. They never rushed us even when we sat there chatting afterwards.
VENUE/PARKING:
Restaurant is pretty large, plenty of seating. Located INSIDE the building with the 99 Ranch market, in the LEFT side if you're facing the 99 Ranch entrance. Huge plaza, so plenty of parking - a ton of construction going on right now just fyi.
Yum! Would come back if I'm in the area because the menu is huge! :)

Didn't even offer water, a very common commodity at all restaurants. Brought tea once. Food looks unappetizing, would only touch the rice. Dishes unclean. Very little room to eat. Very expensive (4 appetizer lettuce wraps are $10).

great vegetarian place, with a nice mix of common "veggie" items (like kung pao chicken and some stir-fried tofu) to some more specialized items (such as a "ham" sandwich). all in all, a worthwhile experience, and recommended if you are vegetarian--or even if you're not and just want to get away from eating meat for a meal. the kung pao chicken and house special chicken are popular.
note: nogales st is a mess right now and will be until 2016. it will be quite a chore to get to the 99 ranch plaza where this is located.
