I'm a simple girl with a simple palate. I love Chita's mexican food. I haven't tried all of the entree's, but what I've had has been worth every penny (Super Burrito is my fave). They have good sized servings for the price and strait forward ingredients. The "News and Review" comments about this place are just one person's opinion. I don't care for fancy ambiance and I don't like things added to my food to make it "sophisticated." This place is worth a try and you can decide on your own if you like it. As far as the comments about the people just hanging out behind the counter...who cares? All I care about is the food/price. If you're looking for a fancy dine, then this isn't the place. I'm one who can't ever truly enjoy my food if I have to use a cloth napkin or track appropriate use of my silverware.
I've been by Chita's plenty of times and never had an opportunity to stop in. A small place with only a few seats. Order at the counter and they bring you the delicious food to your table. We started with guacamole and chips, so tasty. I had a sope with carnitas and a side of beans. A LOT of beans for a side! Way more than expected for a side. My daughter had the chile relleno plate. She ate 95% of it. We agreed we will definitely return!
I've been here twice and the 2nd time was better then the 1st. I had nachos and asada tacos. My friend got 2 Cali asada tacos. We were satisfied and the service was great.
Great authentic Mexican food with great price!

Such friendly customer service for such a late night post-concert. The young man was so warm and caring, really trying to help us orient to what foods we should try at a new place.
Feel like we stumbled on a gem. Amazing taste...Chita Fries were def worth it. Pastor burrito 🌯 was 🔥. Fish Tacos have a sauce with tartar in it, so not my fav but would order again minus the tartar sauce...
Nothing but good things to say about this unpretentious taqueria. Had a fish taco and two “baby tacos” (Street tacos, both chicken). The Tomatillo Habanero salsa (rated XX Hot) spared me; I indulged within reason. The Avocado Sauce (hot) was delicious on the fish taco, and the standard Salsa Fresca was fine. Baby tacos were just under $3, the fish one just under $4. Serve yourself napkins and utensils. Great place.
One of my absolute favorite places. I had the Cali Burrito with Lengua. Outstanding. Rachael took our order and she is amazing!! If you are craving authentic Mexican food this is the place to go to.
Quick service and food was great! The Pico salsa was too salty for my liking. Prices are reasonable for downtown.
Food is hella solid. Carnitas super burrito my go to, but the Chita’s fries, fish tacos, and churros all smack! Star of the show is the Chicken Tortilla Soup, that mf is batting 1.000
One thing I’ll say is check your order got everything cuz they do be forgetting, and ask for extra salsa cups cuz u gotta try them all.
All I have to say is I rarely eat tacos for dinner but I decided to eat Mex food bc it was National Taco day. Someone recommended Chita's and the tacos were not good, they were great!!! They were not the size of quarters, they were
Moderate in size, and the meat was delicious. Had the chicken and scrimp tacos and when I brought the tacos home, my friends devoured them with smiling faces. This now my go-to place for Mex food. Bravo!!!!
TL;DR:
Food: 5/5 🌯
Service: 4/5 👨🏼🍳
What did we get?
Chimichanga ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Chitas Fries ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Super Burrito ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Avocado Salsa ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My SO and I go here almost every weekend. Delicious tasting, amazing portions, well-priced mexican food in downtown Sacramento, what more could you ask for? Also PLEASE do yourself a favor and get their avocado salsa - takes the taste of all their food to the next level. Overall, highly recommend Chitas for mexican food fans!
Wow!!! The Chita's Wet Fuego Burrito is the best wet burrito I've had!!! The salsa, shrimp and veggies were an amazing combination!!!
My husband had a carne asada burrito and he loved it also!!!
The updated menu is clutch with lots of favorite options. The baby corn tacos (street tacos) are a great value and the fish taco has fresh grilled fish, not lazy frozen breaded fish. Salsa bar is also on point, the avocado one is the best in town.
I've been to this place a few times for breakfast and I always get the best breakfast burrito is the best I've ever tasted
This is a wonderful hole in the wall Mexican restaurant… that stays open till 1am on the weekends! Thank goodness because this town lacks late night foods in a serious way. Chita’s cuisine is very tasty with a good amount of vegetarian options, and they have a salsa bar! Since Tres Hermanas did their rebranding and menu change (for the worse, unfortunately) I got to say that this place has usurped the top traditional Mexican restaurant in SAC. They have some patio spaces and a small inside for dining, FYI.
Tiny neighborhood spot, a handful of tables more used for waiting than eating. The spot was absolutely packed when we got there and had a train of both diners, carry-out, and delivery drivers in a line nearly out the door at times. We all know this as the traditional sign in neighborhood dining that you're in for a long time but a good time. We were waiting on 2 chimichanga and a burrito for probably a titch over 20 minutes. The wait was worth it, got a decent sized cabeza chimichanga for $12~. Fresh ingredients, DID have a lil issue with the wrap of the changa (ingredients were not layered well) but it's a thing that can happen occasionally. Repeat offense is sign of improper training, a one time flub-up during a rush is negligible. One friend had a fish burrito that he said was absolute fire, another got the asada chimichanga. Full disclosure, the third man said he wasn't as happy with the fry job on his changa, but he was just craving something a bit more trashy (he mentioned ground beef lol, he can get Taco Bell next time) where this was a bit more high quality. The meat was very good, the tortilla was delightful. Def recommended, good portions and high quality food for a good price.
Great authentic Mexican food at great prices. Restaurant is small and parking can be a pain but neither of those things take away from how good the food is. Try the Chita Fries with your favorite protein.
Recommended by a Lyft driver. Did not disappoint. Good selection of salsas and the wet burrito was great!
