This was our first visit here. For the first time in a long time, my husband's steak (ordered medium rare) actually came out the way he ordered it! All the food was amazing, and the restaurant had an amazing coffee smell as soon as you walked in. The portions are generous in size but not too big. The service was exceptional, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. This little country cafe is hip and has a very inclusive menu with vegan and gluten-free options and though it is hidden, it is well worth the visit!
It was Sunday at 9am a single party of four waiting outside. You need to use download the Yelp app to be placed on a wait list. I guess the people who don't have smart phones cant wait to be seated. (I'm clearly not one of them but they do exist). There was a 30 minute wait. Not horrible but unexpected when there was only a party of four waiting. As I sat there I figured out why as I saw people pulling in to the parking lot and going in to be sat. Being able to join the waiting list while you're on your way is a cool benefit to using an application like Yelp.
The restaurant looks great. They massively updated and remolded the building from the previous restaurant. The seats that aren't booths are hard metal, not comfy.
As is normal when I try a new place I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, Over Easy Eggs, Country Potatoes with a request to have them crispy, and Sour Dough toast. The coffee is on the bitter end but my wife would love it. They had French Vanilla, Hazelnut and Non-Dairy Creamer but no dairy option. The waitress brought me over a ramekin of milk. A good variety of sweeteners.
Food came out and it looked fine. The eggs were spot on over easy. The sour dough tasted like warmed white bread and was hardly even toasted. The potatoes seemed like they were fresh out of a roasting pan, mushy, barely warm and absolutely no effort placed to make them crispy. The chicken friend steak was pretty. It didn't taste bad and had enough gravy on it. The gravy was fine.
When you order the most expensive thing on the menu that "Sells out every weekend" you expect more than fine and warmer drawer potatoes. They cooked the eggs perfect though which a lot of places cant seem to do.
Decided to stop by Toasted Rooster Cafe for a late lunch. We were sat immediately.
We ordered:
-rustic flight $26, what the donkey, mango rooster, pear, decent mimosas
-veggie omelet $15, made well
-steak and egg combo $19, steak was below avg
Eggs, toast, and hash browns were all good.
Staff was friendly as well. They have TVs playing sports too and great music selection.
Parking available on premises.
We had the eggs Benedict and Breakfast tacos. They were both very good ! Brandi, the waitress was great. Definitely quality Ingredients. The kitchen is small and quality food isn't always fast so be patient. In my opinion, it is worth the wait.
Great place for breakfast. The food is great, and the portions were great. Service was awesome and attentive. The menu is one of a kind when it comes to wanting specialty breakfast. We will be back to try more items we didn't choose last time.
I had my birthday brunch here and it was fantastic. The waitstaff, the food and the mimosas were amazing. Fun lively atmosphere, clean and inviting. Highly recommend.
I really LOVED the food. We ordered the Fearless Rooster, the strawberry nested bread (waffle) and a Garden Bird Skillet.
All three were fantastic. The place is a little noisy and there is usually a waiting list on yelp. Do the smart thing and join it before arriving. Average times is 15-30min wait time for the list.
The service was great our server was working the room really well. The place was clean and the decor was kitschy. I snapped a pic of the rooster in the back. The food was good, if a bit pricey. I'll probably be back if I'm on that side of town. The burrito was bomb and the salsa and guac was a nice touch.
My 4 star review was upgraded to 5 because our server (maybe Jazzy) noticed we had been waiting for over 1/2 hour since ordering and brought a warm banana nut muffin and dish of fresh fruit. To be fair we arrived on Saturday morning at about 10am so of course that is the busiest time, and finding good kitchen staff is surely a challenge, so the delay is understandable and the server was very attentive. Also, when the food arrived it was hot, plentiful and good. I was not as impressed with the ambiance as others, but when patio service opens that will be nice, especially if they put up some kind of buffer to mask the traffic noise. A couple more suggestions for this new venture are to seat singles at the counter and rethink the restroom facilities a bit. I noticed an odd odor that may have been either sewer gas or natural gas right where the kitchen door meets the restroom door that bears investigation. But again, the food was good and the servers were working hard to overcome the slow kitchen so we will try again, on a weekday next time!
Update March 30, 2023: Came back when it wasn't so busy and enjoyed the sausage egg and cheese mcmuffin which was delicious. On the way out I see that the outdoor dining area seems ready and includes a nice wooden fence to help mitigate traffic noise. This will be nice this summer!
Fantastic place for casual breakfast. The food is so flavorful, and the portions are good. The staff was very friendly. I am happy they are expanding to the outside, so there will be more seating. I had the chicken fried steak, which was thick and tender and delicious. The gravy was some of the best I’ve had. The biscuit was remarkable. This is where Eggie’s used to be and I’ve come here all my life with my family. I love the improvements the new owners have made without losing any of the charm. We need more places like this. I’m so glad it’s here.
