Review Restaurant 1796 - Saint Francisville

It's been a while since a restaurant has absolutely wowed me, but the service was excellent (coming from a former server) and the food was divine!! I had the lamb meatballs and a half strawberry salad. The cheese sauce for the meatballs was to die for! I also tried a friend's grilled Caesar salad and it was excellent as well. Our server Olivia was great, and I will say what's even more impressive is how well everyone works together to keep the table clear and drinks full. Highly recommend this place!

Absolutely enjoyed having lunch here after the mystery tour at Myrtles Plantation. We had a very pleasant and attentive waitress by the name of Libby who kept our drinks full and gave us exceptional service. The food was outstanding and the talk at our table was trying to figure out how they made those delicious corn hush puppies-they had an amazing flavor due to the Mexican sour cream and cotija cheese sauce over the top of it! The short rib cheesy sandwich was to die for and even the Parm Truffle fries had the taste of freshly being a chopped up potato. Truly enjoyed the open area where we could witness some of the chefs magic in the kitchen. A wonderful dining experience!

This is the CUTEST place to have lunch! My BFF and I had lunch here after the plantation tour. It was such a nice atmosphere and the staff were all very nice and accommodating. The food was delicious, well priced and the best sweet tea I've had! I'm traveling from Oregon so this was a great treat! I will definitely stop here again next time I'm in town!! Highly recommend!

We were joined by two other couples to celebrate my birthday at 1796 this week and we were all very impressed with the restaurant. It's a very nice restaurant but not so uptight that you can't relax and enjoy yourself. We arrived a little early and hung out at the bar while we waited on our friends and I thought the selection of beers (4 on tap from local craft breweries) and cocktails had a good variety so everyone can find something. I'm not a wine drinker but they had a long wine list as well. We got 3 different appetizers to share at the table - the fried pickled okra, crab queso, and crawfish pepper jelly...they were all so good it's hard to choose a favorite. We all had either the New York Strip special or hamburgers and everyone's meal was fantastic. For dessert a couple of orders of bread pudding that came with a homemade sorbet was a perfect ending to the meal. All of the staff was friendly, efficient and made the dining experience great. I'm ready to go again already!

Meh...The staff was wonderful. The ambience, atmosphere and building gives a wonderful experience. Unfortunately the cocktails and food are not what we were expecting. Pricing slightly higher than I would expect. Bottled wine pricing is at a premium. The wait staff raved about the crab & spinach dip, but the dish was extremely oily, served with bread that can only be described as a crouton, and oddly sour tasting. I enjoyed the fried rabbit liver. Breading was wonderfully seasoned and crispy. Liver was very fresh tasting. Blackened redfish dish presentation was wonderful, but the dish was served with multiple scales still on the fish. Could have used more blackening or seasoning. 8oz filet was cooked to Medium Rare as requested, but the bone marrow butter on top of the dish was cold. Selection of filet was not impressive. Felt that the meat lacked enough (or any) salt and pepper. Potatoes were ok, but need a bit more crisping. Stabbs, Juban's, LA Lagniappe and a few others have a much better cut & cook of filet. Bread Pudding was poor, but ice cream with it was fantastic. I witnessed one other table next to us who also disliked the bread pudding. I am worried we had expectations of this restaurant that were much higher than were achievable. I believe people place this restaurant in a category during discussions that far exceed the reality due to it's location at The Myrtles. This is a great and enjoyable everyday restaurant if you are willing to pay a premium. But this restaurant should not be targeted as a must have or an icon in the BR Metro & surrounding areas.

Excellent, My wife and I have been several times both for dinner and for Sunday Brunch. The restaurant is well kept and clean, The staff are friendly and attentive and the location is tranquil and beautiful. The drinks are all on point and the food has never been anything but delicious. I highly recommend this for a romantic dinner or a quiet Sunday morning.

My wife and I were staying at the local B&B and booked a reservation to Restaurant 1796. I loved the food so much that I'd be willing to travel the 2.5 hours to just eat there again. The atmosphere was wonderful and the gent manning the hearth was a great conversationalist and grilled our food wonderfully.
