Our "Friday Night Fish Fry" experience was AWESOME! Christina was very patient with our group of 12 and our food can me out food and hot! We ordered the Perch & White Fish Combo which was cooked to perfection. The portions were generous as well! If I hadn't of shared with my mom and dad I definitely could not have eaten the whole dish! The cocktails that we ordered we're also a good size and well worth it. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Saint Ignace.
Fast, friendly service and awesome tasting food. The whitefish on Friday nights is the best around. A great place to go with family to have dinner, drinks and the kids can bowl a few games.
Fr d's was recommended by a friend and it was great! We liked the food and atmosphere so much that we went there 2 days in a row. The fried Whitfish was delicious and chicken wings went great with the cold beer! Would recommend to anyone!
Very good food..owner knows his fish and the prime rib sandwich is fantastic.
Our server Christine was great, helped us with our menu choices. We picked a fish fry combo, that my husband and I shared. Which consisted of a variety of fresh water fish, including white fish, walleye and perch! With two sides, we chose clam chowder and baked potato. The entire meal was absolutely incredible as well as our server, Christine! The service was second to none! Everyone was so friendly, it truly made our experience at Fred's a pleasant one! We plan to come back when we're in Michigan!
Ok so if you want some seriously good food AND service, you need to stop here. Got the Land & Sea combo 1/2 rack ribs with Fried Whitefish, DELISH!!! It was busy, only 3 servers on & they dominated. No waiting, no asking for extra napkins etc, they anticipated our needs before we even knew what we needed. We will definitely be back next time we “Go North”. Even had Fred himself stop by our table to say hi, you just can’t find that kind of welcome in most eating establishments anymore. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Thanks for a great meal!
I will be going back when we're in town again! Dinner was great, service awesome! Even being busy they were friendly and helpful! I had fish and hubby had a burger, we both liked our food!
The food is great. The bill is exceptable and not over priced. The beer is cold and the waitstaff is plesent. Fred and Wonda are great owners. Come visit to see for yourself.
Best white fish I've had in a long time, perch was good too. Very good homemade tartar sauce. The owner Fred came over and talked with us, really nice guy. Definitely recommend the white fish.
Best Friday night fish! Always Excellant and Mary Kay is friendly, sweet and the best!
If your in St Ignace do not miss a visit to Fred's Pub at Gateway Lanes. They have the best White Fish Dinners and much more at great prices. Best in upper Michigan. Look forward to it every Summer.
Great service & great food! Whitefish is one of the best in town!
Great Food, voted best white fish ,but I like the family style dinners too!
Our waitress was great & the whitefish bites were delicious!
My wife, a friend, and I were in this area a couple of weeks ago, and headed for home in west central Iowa on Sunday the 21st. Your establishment was recommended by our hotel, and after stopping in on a Friday night for whitefish and Widowmaker beers, we were so impressed that we stopped in again the following evening. Two thumbs up, five stars, and a couple of hoorahs......... food was excellent, and the service was above and beyond..... we truly felt welcome! We WILL certainly be back!
Love this place. Best and freshest fish in town. We tried the painting/wine classes and we had a great time. Great food and owners, can't go wrong. Not just a bowling alley anymore.
Service was unbelievably fast, food came within a few minutes of the drinks. The burger and prime rib sandwiches were very flavorful, the chicken sandwich was moist and tasty.
No malt power, but a total thumbs up experience!
What a great experience we had at Fred's the other night. WOW. To get GREAT food at great prices with great service, and then have a bowling alley as your backdrop... only at Fred's. (If you're a foodie, do not miss this place.)
We had ribs, we had whitefish, we had walleye, a side salad, cheesy potatoes, coleslaw - all of it was so fresh and well-prepared. The wait staff - PROS! And whoever is back in that kitchen is worthy of some recognition. We had an amazing evening at Fred's and if it weren't for this stupid Covid thing, I would have kissed our waitress to show our appreciation.
GET YOUR TUSH TO FRED'S, PEOPLE!!
Party of 12 seated promptly and attended to our culinary whims. Very good food.
Benefit for Robert (Pops) Nowak funeral expenses. Staff was wonderful, food great...Great job, Fred's!!!
Great food, great staff, good beer choices. My wife and I both had broiled whitefish and it was excellent. I had an Oberon draft beer. Fred the owner came over to talk with us. Fred and server Dee were wonderful. It's not on the main road, but don't pass up this gem in St. Ignace.
This is one of the most amazing places we ate at. My wife and sister-in-law had a whitefish salad they both said it was wonderful, I had the butterfly shrimp with a salad and cottage cheese, that was great. My brother had the broiled whitefish and loved it. The family run business is a well oiled machine. The freindly atmosphere and the smiling faces tells me that we will definitely eat there again. This is a definite recommend place to try
Came here for some food and drink and left with a few laughs. Great little pub. My first time in the U.P. I saw the sign for Fred’s figured it wouldn’t hurt to check it out. Our food came out really fast and was pretty good. The staff were all great and worked well together— Mary Kate was such a sweetheart! Not many beers on tap, but I really enjoyed the Oberon.
The bowling alley is still closed so hopefully it will be opened back up as soon as things get better!
We come here every time we stop into town. They have a good sized menus with all sorts of seafood you could want. Wait staff is always very nice. What's nice is they even have a bowling alley attached which we always play a game or two before leaving, but it's well separated so it doesn't encroach on the people who only game for food.
Best owner who loves his family. If you don’t love your family there is probably something wrong with you, unless your family sucks - then all is forgiven. Best bar staff who love fish, if you don’t love fish there is something wrong with you - unless you’re allergic then all is forgiven. Nicest people you will ever meet this side of the Mississippi
Was told this was the best fish, fried or otherwise, in town. I'm not qualified to support that claim since it's the only fish I've had in town. I can say it was very good. Fred even came around to check on people, making sure they were enjoying there food.
If you like lots of fresh fish and friendly sevice... This is the spot for you. This restaurant had the best fish I had during my whole trip to the St. Ignace and Mackinac City. It is a bit off of the main strip of St. Ignace, but well worth the extra mile. It is even connected to a bowling alley! I was not there when the bowling alley was open, but my family and I enjoyed the atmosphere. They serve some alcohol and have a decent size menu. I would highly recommend them to anyone.
We had a party of 9 on a Friday. We were seated immediately and opted to be out in the alley so the kids could bowl. The food and service was excellent! We ordered fish baskets, burgers, prime rib hoagie, and chicken strips.
Nice establishment, friendly waitress, husband loved his lightly breaded whitefish. I wasn't crazy for the coating on my walleye fingers...too crunchy, panko I'm guessing. We would do a return trip.
My 4th stop there recently. It is where the locals go for fish, especially on Fridays. Super friendly place, the owner always greets you personally. A couple more taps would be nice, but the fish is worth the price of admission. Worth a stop when staying in or passing through St. Ignace.
Great place! We asked a local fella where he would recommend tourist to eat, and he immediately said Fred's Pub. We're SO glad he did... the food was great, the waitresses were friendly and very efficient! Would definitely come back
It's hard to find this place since it's merged with a bowling alley, but my god, this place was absolutely delicious! A lot of great foods with large portions for a very reasonable price. Staff is very nice amd greetable, and the wait time for food isn't too ridiculous.
P.S. Order the whitefish dinner. you won't regret it when you taste itm
