We stopped on for our Pub Passes and it was a slow Saturday. We chatted with the bartender, Greg, for a while who was lovely and met Doug, the owner, as well. We had a great experience and will definitely be back. Highly recommend!!

First time in and I quite enjoyed myself! The Mexican style fare was simple but delicious! Between a couple friends we had the street tacos (steak, fish, chorizzo) and they each have their distinct flavor. The queso with chorizo had a smokey flavor.
Zach behind the bar was very personable and even knew my favorite drink, vesper. I wish I could of stayed later, turntables were being set up. The place had a dark, jazzy vibe and I was interested in hearing what was coming up. The single TV went from sports to Godzilla vs The Thing (Sea Monster).
In a nutshell, great service, tasty food and a great give. I look forward to coming back! Next time I'll ask about the stuffed cat behind the bar...

Very nice neighborhood place. Live jazz on weekends and reasonably priced drinks. Friendly, fast service from the bar, but any comment on the kitchen as we didn't try the food.
This definitely would make a nice place to go wind down after work or on a weekend evening. It's small, has a warm environment, and is altogether friendly. The wife and I will certainly be back!

Great audio and good service with an interesting menu of food. I love the atmosphere but it gets a little busy and not a big place so sometimes seating can be challenging. But they highlight some great local musicians.

Trivia Tuesday was fun and lively. The hostess did a good job of keeping the game flowing and the crowd engaged. Nice beer and drink selection. I had the grande burrito which had great flavor, but was not hot when brought out. This bar had a strong local vibe, but was welcoming to newcomers.
Cory Bemis
This is just a non fancy bar with a good beer selection and very yummy hush puppies. Prices are very reasonable but it is a cash only place. When they start having music again it is extra good!
Kayla Sassenrath-Cole
This place is so laid back and wonderful. The food is delicous, the drinks are amazing and there servers are so amazing!!
Stephanie Herbers
Nice, laid-back neighborhood spot. Live jazz on weekends, good options for drinks and food including some regional beer options. I recommend trying the Garlic Parmesan Chicken Sandwich; it is good with fried or grilled chicken.
Jennifer Walsh
Great jazz on Thursdays, great bartenders mixing great drinks and drink specials. More focused menu coming soon when the kitchen reopens.
Patti Salamone
Great atmosphere! The food was absolutely delicious and the prices were very reasonable. Great music! There's an outdoor eating area and a fire pit. We loved it!
Jacob Wolf
Awesome bar with great happy hour deals, friendly staff, and amazing music. We chatted with the owner for quite a while and he was a fantastic guy. Can't recommend this place enough.
Justin Hager
I popped in for a drink and discovered teg also do street tacos. I ordered 1 of each, I think there's 4 different proteins and they all were fantastic. The bartender was very friendly. I typically hang out on the east and south side of tower grove park but this spot is a go to for the shaw neighborhood

The "Cheers" of South City, if Cheers was a smaller bar with better food and less drama. Also no Norm. It is the kind of place where you can go if you know no one there and they know nothing of you, and leave at the end of the night feeling like you just spent the night with 20 of your closest friends.
Great drinks, VERY good food (especially for the prices). I will miss living close to Thurman each day for the next 6 months until we move back into the neighborhood.
Bottom line, a truer neighborhood bar in St. Louis cannot be found.

This is a nice little neighborhood bar but the owner could loosen up a bit. I'd like to be back on a night when they have music and try it again. Our bartender was great though.
Lucia Landa
Their tacos and tostadas are the best in my opinion. Go have a good time with friends and enjoy the outdoor area. Sometimes there is live music that makes the place even more enjoyable.

Went on a Friday night and had the fortune to have three great out of towners come in and stand in with all the local musicians. First, the locals were unbelievable - from the straight alto, piano, upright and the guy with the unbelievable looking baritone sax and they all sounded like they had played together for years. Then Neal Caine (bass), Jerry Weldon (sax) and Dion Tucker (trombone) jumped in and got it up to another level. I had never been to Thurman’s before that night but will def be back for Friday night shows again. Amazing.

Great little corner bar. Perfect for the area. And the Hush puppies were amazing with a white bbq sauce that was the perfect pairing. Go here! Get hush puppies! Win!

First time to visit. Fantastic experience. It was a Jazz night and the ambiance was delightful. The sound system was great! Friendly staff and the chef was on point. I took a friend here as well and she had the Chicken Parm Sandwich and Toasted Ravioli. She said it was "Amazing/The Bomb." I had the Trashed Wings with Ranch and Toasted Ravioli. I second her opinion of the food. My friend Katilyn just turned 21 and the staff assisted her in figuring out which wine she liked best. We live 2.5 hours away and have decided to go once or twice a month because its that great. The drive is worth it. We'd give it 10 stars if we could! Kudos to Doug Fowler. Your dream is a reality and you are Killing it man!

Yummy toasted ravioli and St. Louis salad, excellent draft beer, great music and atmosphere, fun crowd, super nice, attentive bartenders, and the owner Doug is a great guy! Will definitely be back..

Love having this place just two blocks from my house. It was already a great neighborhood bar, but it got even better with the Mexican street food addition.
Joshua Brown
Wings and onion rings are fab--really solid bar food all around. Great beer and whiskey selection, and great music most Thursday nights. This is the definition of a great neighborhood watering hole.
Kimberly Sells McKinney
Best Onion Rings ever and until tonight, they were all we tried. Now I can easily add that the nachos and pizza are also very good. Love having such a great neighborhood place so very close. Cozy, friendly with yummy nosh and great beverages.
Lauren Clark
I live just down the street and there's absolutely nothing more I could ask for in a neighborhood bar. Fantastic outdoor seating, extremely friendly and personal staff/owner, awesome patrons. And now I have an officially favorite nook in the bar. Now I'm afraid I'll never have a reason to go anywhere else!
Cheryl Fields
Thurmam's on Shaw is a quaint corner bar with a great beer & wine selection. The food was fantastic & the band entertaining. Love the European vibe!
Joe Mancuso
Fun hang, Great Live Jazz!!! Super friendly staff! Had some awesome Vino!
Courtney Smith
The best bands in town! Especially on Friday nights!! #kendricksmithtrio
Colleen Egan Burdiss
The taco pizza and trashed wings were awesome!! Next time I'll have to order chicken nachos. The place is nice, friendly and relaxing.
Greg David
The food's really pretty darn good (the chicken club and onion rings are outstanding), but what I love most is the really good, free, jazz on Thursday evenings. The sound system is exceptional (you can hear everything and still converse), and the setting is comfortable, clean and friendly.
Anna Max
First time at Thurman's and we had a great time. Welcoming staff, solid drinks & beer menu and great handcut fries. We will definitely be back!
Kevin Paprocki
Great food, good beer selection and very nice owner and employees.
Rob Endicott
Great hip spot in Shaw. Check out the music scene there!
Jordan Scott
Food and service were great. Just moved to the neighborhood and the owner was super friendly about welcoming us.
Ronaele Woodman Jacobsen
This was an awesome place. Great music, friendly staff, had so much fun!!
Kerri McCrorey
Amazing drag show Monday nights, great staff and friendly atmosphere.
Danielle Barnes
Great staff and Toasted Ravioli is super yummy!!!!!
Denis Thien
Haven't eaten there, nor enjoyed any jazz shows (which I love jazz), but strictly based on their bar, I give them 3 stars. Friendly service and patrons, but not much to offer as far as beer selection goes or ability to make real cocktails. Prices for beer aren't good either (i.e. $7.00 for a Civil Life American brown???).
Robin Gray
I wish they hadn't changed the signature Thurman Roast beef sandwich. It was a favorite of mine and now it has this gross, lumpy gravy on it and the boursin cheese sauce is no longer on it. Depressed now and disappointed....
Norma West
Good food, good times!. Thurman is a block from my house. I have frequented this neighborhood establishment since its' inception. The food and the service have improved while the atmosphere remains open and friendly. The food is very tasty pub style fare. I am especially fond of the pizza and the hummus plate. Portions are generous but not huge. The addition of a server has taken pressure off the bartender so service has vastly improved as well. Best neighborhood bar by far.
Angela Marie Barker
Ehhhhh. Food wasnt great and the service was non existant.
Pat
What a Gem!. A friend and I were driving by on a Friday night and noticed this place had some live music. Stopped in and got a humus platter and some pizza. Wow! The service, food, wine, music, prices, awesome!!!! The bartender, Michael Jackson was so friendly and made us feel like we were regulars. We will become regulars. Hell, I might have to move to the neighborhood just for this place.
Mary
I Love My Neighborhood Bar!. Thurman Grill is right down the street from where I live, and it is the epitome of what a neighborhood bar should be. Neighbors hang out and visit, there's a lot of diversity in the clientele it serves, and Michael Jackson, the bar tender is awsome! I just read a negative review of the Thurman that was written recently and had to laugh. It was from a person who had to wait 20 minutes for a drink. I'm sure it was a busy night if that happened and that's pretty standard in any bar that's crowded. I was at a different neighborhood bar not too long ago and waited over 40 mins before anyone even acknowledged that I was there. It happens... and when it does, the nice thing is that you can just sit back and enjoy the ambiance. Keep doin what you're doin Thurman. You're a great part of the neighborhood!
Mrs. Scarlett
Best Little Neighborhood Bar. If you grew up watching Cheers, then this is the bar you want to visit. The regulars are all here and newcomers are always welcome - and eagerly embraced. If you prefer to have a quiet drink and bite to eat to yourself, that is always an option too. Live bands and wine school are just a few of the "goings-on" offered at this neighborhood watering hole.
DYK
Neighborhood joint. Nestled in the area of Tower Grove and Shaw neighborhoods, it's local neighborhood casual. We had a lovely time sitting out enjoying the ambience. Food was not too great. I had the shrimp scampi and while there were plenty of shrimp there was very little taste. The chicken stir-fry was very heavy on the teriyaki sauce. Will we go back--maybe to try the sandwiches. Prices were very reasonable.
Paul
Wow. A friend of mine and I went out last night-- we intended to go to Sasha's on Shaw but it was packed-- while driving back towards Grand we came across this place...and wow. It was perfect. The bartender is fantastic-- witty, intelligent, knowledgeable on wine and liquor. My french dip sandwich...was spectacular. I watched him cut the steak right off a large medium rare tenderloin....<br/>the wine selection was better then most and overall it was a great place and we will be going back.
