Fist time to this place and I loved it. The service was great. I recommend to get a taste sampler of the different moles. The mole was good flavor and had shredded chicken. I have not tried other dishes but I definitely give a 5 /5 for the mole experience. Lunch time was buzzing not overflowing. They have plenty of seating.

Loved this restaurant. The food was awesome and our waiter was fantastic. The outside doesn't look like much, but when you get inside the restaurant, it is colorful and really cute. Everyone is so friendly. The restaurant was packed as the night went on. My hubby ordered a shrimp dish. OMG, it was really good. I ordered Red Aguana Plate. That beef Taco was so good. We had such a nice evening. What a wonderful experience. We ordered some drinks that were great too. My hubby had the fried ice cream. He loved it! I would 100% recommend this restaurant.

Came to Salt Lake City, Utah to check out a car for my wife and I and we bought it. So to celebrate we went to the Red Iguana by recommendtion the food was fabulous and the drinks. Great service , for a little hole in the wall the place was packed. And people kept on coming in . We loved the place but I've got to say we probably will not be because it was a Five hour drive from Boise, ID....and this place is in the middle of the ghettos wow there so many homeless in the area..........probably will not be coming back to Utah.........if this helps please give a šŸ‘like....................

An awesome Mexican restaurant with amazing flavors. Iā€™d highly encourage to make a reservation. We got 1. Encurtidos (5/5) one of the best dishes I have had so far. The jalapeƱos had perfect spiciness and the flavor was amazing. The cheese was icing on the cake. Would highly recommend this dish. 2. Mole dish (with mango and pork). A great flavor and spiciness to it. I would highly recommend this place.

Very good! I see why all the hype. The tortilla chips arenā€™t greasy and the salsa has a nice kick to it. I ordered the 7 mole sampler so I could taste each one, wowā€¦amazing to taste each and the differences. I forgot all the names, but my favorite was the darkest one with chocolate undertones. I ordered shrimp fajitas and a skinny margarita on the rocks. The drink was strong & good and the food was even more delicious! Highly recommend reservations. I had one thankfully otherwise it was an hour wait.

This place has a very well deserved positive reputation! Stopped in while in town for dinner and had an amazing time. Service was wonderful, their margaritas are amazing, and of course the food was incredible and plentiful. Really excellent, will definitely be back the next time I'm in town!

The red iguana is indubitably the most incredible restaurant i have ever had the pleasure of entering. The service is charismatic and loveable. Our server, the man in the green shirt, was AMAZING. He was rapidly refilling our water and attending to our needs. The food exponentially adds to the experience. The best item on the menu is by far the kids quesadilla. The tortilla is cooked to perfection, the cheese beautifully melted and stringy, but most of all the motts apple sauce really completes the meal. The flavor is immaculate; hands down the best apple sauce i have ever partaken of. Much love being sent to The Red Iguana.

In the six years Iā€™ve lived in Utah I have heard that Red Iguana has the best Latin/Mexican food in the state. I cannot believe I didnā€™t try this place sooner. EVERY PART of our experience was absolutely top tier. The homemade salsa and chips were divine, to the point that when we were about to leave. I poured the last bit of salsa into my mouth. It was that good! I didnā€™t want to waste a single drop. Our server whose name escapes me, but he immigrated from Venezuela deserves a raise. This man was so pleasant, funny, got everything we needed, answered every question we had. We almost forgot our leftover boxes on the table and he ran to find us before we left it there. He was marvelous! I wish I remembered his name so I could shout it out for the owners to recognize how great he is. All of the staff was so wonderful and friendly! And then, the food- I AM STILL THINKING ABOUT MY MANGO MOLE ENCHILADA. The chicken was so perfectly cooked and tender. The mango mole had such a wonderful complex flavoring. We got a mole sampler and I truly wish I could have had a meal with each different mole. All of them tasted so amazing. I truly think my heaven would be bathing in Red Iguanaā€™s mole (a different one each day) with a mountain of their tortilla chips and soft flour tortillas by the side. The rice and beans were delicious. My partnerā€™s dish was equally delicious. The killer nachos was our appetizer and I swear those pickled jalapeƱos are crack. I have craved them at least three separate times since we went. We also had the fried ice cream which again, was absolutely fabulous. I loved that it isnā€™t your traditional fried ice cream. The chef has put their spin on it to make the shell this delicious fried flour tortilla. There is such passion, warmth, and a welcoming atmosphere in this restaurant that imbeds itself in the food and the staff. Every single detail has been refined. For example they could have just put plain jalapeƱo bits on the nachos and that would have been perfectly fine. But they instead go the extra mile to pickle them and add that extra flavor and texture. The respect the chefs clearly have for their patrons is so evident. They are working their hardest to make every single aspect the best it can be. Truly wonderful place that I now can say, is the best Mexican food I have ever had the pleasure of trying.

Food and service was Great. Fish Tacos were cooked well, but were missing that extra bit of seasoning to be truly rememberable. Good spot to go in as a group.

This place was on just about every ā€œmust do in SLCā€ blog I read, so I felt I had to try it, and a lot of times those places donā€™t live up to the hype. This exceeded it! Not one thing we had was not amazing. We ordered the stuffed shrimp jalapeƱo appetizer, the red iguana sampler & the las gringas, all delicious. Had to take most to go though, portions are massive & we filled up on the incredible chips & salsa. Definitely recommend making a reservation it gets super busy. Only ā€œnegativeā€ is the margaritas although super tasty, were weak (apparently that is a Utah thing tho)

One of the most authentic Mexican places I've been to. I'm a sucker for a good mole so I might be biased. They let me try their eight different moles and I couldn't make up my mind.

I have been meaning to try the Red Iguana for several years now and I finally made my first visit today. It definitely lived up to all to all of the positive reviews I've seen. The first thing that stood out was the great service. We were immediately met with friendly smiles, taken to a table, and we had our water and chips and salsa quickly. After ordering, our food came out quickly and tasted great. I had the Tacos Don RamĆ³n and they were amazing. I will definitely be retuning. BTW, Tony is a great server and gave us excellent service.

First night in town. I picked Red Iguana because of the reviews and having been on DDD. I arrived slight before 5 and was able to get a table without a reservation or wait. Itā€™s a big menu and I asked my waiter what he recommended: puntas de filete a la norteƱas with flour tortillas. Letā€™s do it. This is a traditional Mexican dish with top sirloin tips, bacon, jalapeƱo strips, onions, and tomatoes over an almond mole (a thick sauce with ground nuts and dried chiles). Staff promptly brought out complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were pleasantly crisp and fresh with no hint of oil. The salsa was thin - but flavorful and medium spicy. It paired nicely with my Corona. After a while the saltiness of the chips increased - my wife would have loved it. Main course came out fairly quickly with beautiful homemade flour tortillas and a good sized plate of fried beans. It was AMAZING. Just the right amount of spicy - enough to make me break into a sweat, but not overpowering and I could taste all the flavors. It absolutely lived up to the hype. I think these were the best tortillas I have ever had. I couldnā€™t eat it all (I wanted to!). On the negative side - I wasnā€™t a fan of the beans. But quite frankly the main was so amazing and given the portion size it didnā€™t matter. Iā€™m going to be seriously pressed to eat here again on my short trip. When I left ~ 5:30 all the tables were full and there was about a dozen people waiting outside. So get there early or make reservations.

The Red Iguana is bright and festive, the servers attentive and kind. The food is homemade and tasty. Chile Riano is especially good! The mole is rich with a wide variety of mole dishes.

Still my favorite Mexican resteraunt in SLC. Attention to detail and the sophisticated moles set it apart. Ask for the free sampler plate so you can taste them whether you order one or not. (We did). Red Iguana is more Mexican than Mexican-American. The chips are dangerous; thin and crispy. with a thin salsa with just a little kick. We were refilled twice. Don't fill up in them (or share entrees). The entrees come with Mexican rice and refried pinto beans, both are just as they should be. We had the house special Mole with a small mountain of Carnitas. You will probably need extra tortillas (corn, of course). Two of us had the house special conbination plate. A great sampler plate. The mild Chile Relleno was the star. Frankly, the portions are generous. I would normally get 2 entrees for 3 people here but it was a birthday dinner, so we had leftovers. After we mentioned birthday, our professional waiter, Jose, surprised us with an excellent individual Tres Leches cake to share. The only one I have better is my wife's. There were lines here before social media, so plan accordingly, but it is worth a visit.
