The food was good and the service was over the top! We had a little miscommunication on a reservation but the staff from hostess to server to manager to owner was over the top in accommodating and in friendliness!!! Thank you!!
The food and drinks were AMAZING! But best of all is the family friendly environment with great music. They were attentive and fast. I definitely recommend this cafe'.
Love this place! Such an awesome hidden gem of Salt Lake. Their food is fantastic and their pricing is great. I highly recommend taking a stop.
Rio Grande Cafe is such a cool spot for mexican comfort cuisine and fine margaritas! Very cool cafe vibe. Kid friendly. Lovely patio/ downtown dining. Love the historical train station. It's simply a must!
I really don’t care what anyone has to say about this place. Old management, new management. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid and it is AMAZING. The food is decent and decently priced to match. The margaritas are OUT OF THIS WORLD. There are few things I wouldn’t do to get the recipe. The wait staff is very friendly and attentive and the ambiance is bar none.
Great place for food with friends. The service is top notch and like family. Plates are more than ample and hot food consistently steaming.
The wait staff and owner were so amazing, and treated me like family. The food is awesome. If you want a good drink try the guava Jarritos soda. It is literally like drinking liquid candy.

I've eaten at Rio Grande from the very beginning. Their beef enchiladas and specifically their beef Santa Fe enchiladas are just so good!!! Their chips and salsa are also just the best. I love love love this place.
We love this place! Food is excellent and consistent. Halibut tacos are delicious, guacamole fresh, and everything we’ve tried has been good. Best Mexican in SLC. And yes, that includes Red Iguana.
Super awesome enviroment ❤️💖 Very clean and awesome service, food was yummy drinks were kept filled! They don't do anything for birthdays if that is why your going. Not a huge deal! :) but super awesome history in the building your eating in worth going.
Mmmmmm, Mexican comfort food! My fave is the Carnitas Tacos and Mango Margaritas. Cool old school vibe located in a historic train depot. Fast and friendly service.
Amazing atmosphere.. amazing staff... amazing food!!
I reclently went to the Rio Grande in the first time in a long time after their short closer to enjoy a quite mexican brunch. Enjoyed some fresh sangria, grilled fajitas along with chips and salsa. Now that it's getting to be summer, this will be a great place to frequent after the Farmers Market for afternoon lunches!
No one can beat Rio Grande's salsa, guacamole and the rest of the fabulous Mexican food! We've been eating here for over 35 years and they never disappoint. The fun atmosphere and jukebox only add to the experience. If you a haven't tried it - you're missing out!
Rio Grande is a perfect spot for a nice satisfying breakfast and delicious cup of coffee. Their menu was different and so inviting. The atmosphere is wonderful too. If you are in Salt Lake City, I would highly recommend stopping by for a bite.
Byron Lovell, owner of dodo and porcupine grill took over this nostalgic place with a menu to die for. The tacos are real shredded beef made just the way my family makes Spanish food. I'm definitely coming back.
Great food, friendly staff. The music really takes me back. Haven't seen a jukebox in a long, long time. The old train station is said to be haunted by a "purple lady", always great dinner conversation. I like supporting family owned and operated restaurants. Highly recommend the pork.
Over 20 years, still some of the best food in SLC!
Good Food. I often eat there with friends from work. The service is hit and miss. Once in a while you get a server who is quick and friendly. I get slower service when I dine alone. I love the chips and salsa, and often get the shrimp enchilada. It is not the best Mexican food, but it is good and reasonably priced.
Best Mexican In Town!. I've been coming here for years and it just keeps getting better and better. Hot, fresh food, impeccable service, and the best margarita I've ever had. Their top shelf margarita is TOO DIE FOR! Most of the staff knows me by name and has my order in the computer by the time I sit down. How can you beat that? Really just a great local hangout!
This place surprised me. Great food, great atmosphere. Loved the look and everyone was friendly. Had the Mexican Lasagna. It was wonderful!! Going back again!!
Stuffed poblanos were amazing!we ordered 3 of them, and we certainly made the right choice, we loved the light pepper sauce with the balsamic reduction, and the filling, specially the eggplant and the cranberries. Perfect size too, very very delicious. Wr'll definitely be back!
Tiramisu , so , so moist and yummy! I like the presentation too .
Something is changing for good , gourmet quality specials are being featured on Fridays and Saturday's , top Mexican cuisine dishes , right portion size , complex flavored and mind blowing presentation. Whoever hired this chef obviously did some research ..We have recommended it to all our friends . I wonder what will the chef come up with next weekend ? We will definitely be there to find out, THUMBS UP RIO GRANDE! Our new favorite spot !
My favorite Mexican is Utah. Been going here for years and years. The guacamole is the best! Anything on the menu is great, I love the chicken burritos enchilada style or the blackbean burrito. The refried beans and rice on the side are amazing. The location can be a little scary but you forget that as soon as you step inside. The service is usually great but every once in while we have a less than exceptional experience. We keep coming back year after year regardless.
Fish tacos!!. The margarita's here are amazing. The chips and salsa are average, unless you ask for a hot salsa, which has a lot more flavor. I used to get the shrimp enchiladas every single time. I LOVE seafood and Rio Grande makes great enchiladas, so putting the two of them together was genius in my mind. At least until I tried their halibut fish tacos..then I truly fell in love. The halibut was so so so moist and tender and then they pair it with a crispy onion and cilantro slaw-type salad, top it with some cheese and lettuce and serve it in a warm flour tortilla. I prefer to get mine without the cheese so that it is like a fresh explosion when I eat. Whatever kind of dressing they use on it is delicious and juicy. I really can't stray from these tacos.
Great chimi & carnitas. The chimi is grilled, not deep fried and delicious, the pork is the best filling for anything on the menu. Great margaritas and carnitas too.
Yummy margaritas. Rio Grande is a fun dining experience. It's laid back and charming. I love going there in the summer to sit on their AWESOME patio. The margaritas CANNOT be beat. I love them. The food is standard tex-mex but the environment of this old train-depot-turned-restaurant makes Rio Grande a great place for a relaxed meal. If you go on a warm day, be sure to sit on the patio!
Both were delicious, more than I expected, and my plate was cleared before I had time to notice. Next time you're down town, check it out. It's great for families, for a lunch time tête-à-tête, or groups. A pat
Whatever you call the food at the Rio-Mexican diner, comfort food, Tex-Mex, yummy-there is no mistaking that it has had a place in the hearts and stomachs of locals for years. Between the high ceilings, original train-station architecture, taco lady decor
This is my first time at the new location. I have been coming to the old location for decades. My family and I have always enjoyed this place. The food this time was just like I remembered. Always great quality definitely will come back again. Very clean and fun place. The staff is very friendly and I always enjoy they're Service here.

We stopped here after flying in to Salt Lake City while on our way to Moab. The staff was super friendly and helpful. We ordered the Two Taco Plate w/ black beans (vegan style), a Chicken Enchilada Dinner, Beef Chimichanga w/beans & rice and a side of queso. We all found our meals to be tasty and the environment was great. Can recommend!

I really enjoyed this dining experience. The carnitas were tasty. I enjoyed the beverage I ordered but could have done without the tajin in the drink. The service was great. The vibe and atmosphere was fun. I would definitely come back and I recommend that you try.
This was my first visit at the new location. It was nice and comfortable. Where was the Taco Lady? I thought they would bring in the move. What happened to the iconic Juke Box, I didnt see that either. The food was the same as I remember, excellent. The salsa is so fresh and tasty!
The food was excellent.
The staff was very friendly and professional. The whole experience was delightful. I will definitely go there again!
Ashley is by far the best sever EVER! She is she kind and accommodating if you get the chance you have her s as your sever, count your self as LUCKY 🍀 or just ask for her. 😃
We had grilled chicken enchiladas with the Colorado sauce is my favorite, But the nachos hold a special place in my heart ❤️
I ate here for the first time today. The food was fantastic! I got a shredded chicken Taco and shredded beef tostada. Both were really good. My server, Cassandra, was awesome and kept my soda refilled the whole time. The location and inside environment was really cool too. Definitely a good spot for good food. A little pricey, but a great experience overall!
Great place. Food is always good. Tonight I had the halibut tacos which came with a delicious sauce. I typically get the relleno which is among the best I’ve ever had. It’s a large restaurant so seating is normally pretty easy. The server was very friendly and perfectly attentive.
This is a great location—we loved the ambiance, the service and the appetizers! The salsa was delicious and so were the chips. I liked my entree too but I would try something different next time. I had the Sante Fe Enchiladas with shredded beef. We had a really good time and I would recommend giving it a try!
The shredded pork enchilada was delicious covered in sauce and cheese. The shredded pork tamale dish was delicious but needed to be smothered in sauce more like the enchilada was. It was a little dry.
It's a really nice clean restaurant inside with good attentive service and atmosphere.
I'll be back to try some different dishes.
We really liked this place. Second time here. Nice location, drinks, and great food. Ayden our server was fantastic. Came in to drink, snack, and watch the Utes trample UCLA. He was very attentive and kept making sure we were taken care of. Taco Loco was VERY good. Will definitely be back.
Love the atmosphere and the food. Our server Haley was great and so kind. We all had good food and good company. The queso and guacamole is amazing.
Beautiful building that is nicely decorated in a cheerful way. The chips and salsa, pork chimichanga and vegetable enchiladas were all very good. The service was good too.
The Rio Grande Cafe continues to be one of the best spots for Mexican American cuisine. The atmosphere is amazing in the old renovated fire house. The owner retained many of the historic features of the building, making it a one of a kind atmosphere inside and out.
Nathan was so so sweet and the best waiter. It was my 21st birthday and it was great. The only reason I rate 4 stars was because we were waiting for about an hour for our order to be taken, but Nate was amazing!
Just incredibly good. As displaced Texans/Oklahomans, we had a go-to Tex-Mex spot way up in Ogden. Rio Grande Cafe has taken its place. It is so well executed, Rio Grande Cafe would thrive in San Antonio or Austin. Try the steak quesadilla. Highest possible recommendation.
