Ahh Sushi Japanese food so delicious because they are showing highly protein always use the sea foods like face crab I have fish Sushi and crab sushi
Loved the sushi and a very friendly sushi chef, he made us some rolls based on some inputs and they were amazing. We liked it so much we considered going back the following day
Brooklyn Bomber and Funky Vegas are MUSTS! Cool little place kind of hidden away below the sidewalk. Yummy sushi and friendly staff. We will definitely come back.
Almost didn't find this place between the street construction and it being located down a flight of stairs off the sidewalk. Tonight we ordered Vegas roll, Nacho roll, Firecracker roll and the Funky roll. The Vegas was my favorite, and the firecracker a close second. All the sushi was fresh with a great presentation. One weird thing was the edamame. About 1/2 of the pods were cold. And not cold like they had cooled off. Like out of the fridge cold. Overall a cool place to get solid quality sushi.
Funky sushi bar in basement. Fun staff. Enjoyed the sushi. Loved the Purple Haze saki
Fantastic! In from Newport CA and found this amazing sushi place one block from temple square. We go out for sushi often and know "sushi". We absolutely loved it. Wait-staff was Niki and great she was. We had Mars roll, Funky Charlie, Seventh-Heaven, caterpillar. Of a few brews.
I love this place! The sushi is great and the guys at the bar (especially Jeremy) are awesome! Bring your ID though cuz they're strict about it.
Amazing sushi. In town on business and stopped in during their happy hour for exquisite half priced sushi. The staff are super friendly. The food is fresh, inventive and delicious. A must stop. I wish I had a place like this near my home.
Happy Hour. Definatly my favorite sushi place. Get the mars and the funky vegas and you will be happy. Best part though, is the happy hour from 5-6, half price on ALL the rolls. Good enough to pay full price for, but go during happy hour and eat amazing sushi cheap.
Great Sushi. Great Atmosphere.. This place is a gem! I love the cozy down to earth climate. I don't feel like I'm in a cheap restaurant that is pretending to be expensive like most sushi joints in this city, here you pay for the rolls NOT the pretentious atmosphere. I've never left Ahh Sushi disappointed. You can expect unique and delicious rolls, good beer and laid back music. Prices here are similar to most sushi bars, but the rolls add up fast. Don't leave without trying the tempura ice cream, yum!
Funky Vegas roll. Okay, so I know that the tempura-fried rolls do NOT qualify as authentic sushi but I don't care. Ahh Sushi does the best Funky Vegas above all other sushi places. Plus if you go during happy hour it's 50% off.

Go for the happy hour. I've been going to this place for a few years and it seems like every time is a different experience. They have quality fish, and the rolls are creative, but service can be great at times and marginal other times. I'd suggest sitting at the sushi bar for the best service, and avoid wednesday nights as they have a $3 schooner special and the servers get frazzled while people keep pouring in. The only issue I've ever had with the food was an order of imperial shrimp that hadn't been peeled. I have ordered it since without any problems. Happy hour is definitely worth it on any night but wednesday.
Great Sushi!. We went to this place last week for happy hour Sushi, and ended up ordering full meals as well. The beef was a little fatty, but the amount they served on the plate more than made up for it. My wives chicken was in chunks, which was a little strange for teriyaki, but the taste made up for that as well. We ordered the Death roll, and Jazz Pick 'n roll, and both were the best Sushi we've had since being in San Fran. We aren't drinkers, but the attached pub was no bother at all! We did have to request our check since our server seemed to never be around, but she did bring us new drinks without having to ask. Pros and Cons aside, we will be back since the food was so delicious!
One reviewer commented about needing a membership to get in. While we did visit at a non-peak time, we had no problems getting in. They did scan our ID's, but it only took seconds and we were in.
Delightful!. You descend beneath street level for this one, a really lovely hidden space. We ordered the Spider, Rainbow and another roll whose name escapes me, and honestly, though there were three of us, I wanted to eat ALL of everything in front of us. We ordered a couple of schooners of beer, which turned out to be too much. Loved the food and we had very good service. I would definitely recommend this place.
The ChinWag Review - Ahh Sushi!. I have not always been a very big fan of sushi, in fact only recently I decided that I wanted to like it. With a lot of foods I have had to force myself to eat it until I enjoy it, I actually take a lot of pride in a lot of the foods I have been able to start enjoying by will and determination.
A few of my friends are very big into sushi and they told me that the place to go in Salt Lake County in Ahh Sushi! First thing to note, it is also a bar and due to Utah Liquor Laws Ahh Sushi! is a private club and you will either need to get a membership to eat there or like me go with a friend that is already a member and piggy back on their membership. Ahh Sushi! is in the basement of a building, so descend the stairs and enter into a restaurant with the look and feel of a pub on one side and a sushi bar on the other.
We were seated at the sushi bar and our waitress gave us our menu's, I will use the term waitress loosely because after being seated you will only see her ever 15 to 20 minutes for a drink refill, even when they are not busy. We were seated directly in front of our sushi chef, James, and he handed us some slips of paper to write down our sushi orders. Weekdays from 11am-2pm sushi rolls are half off, so we all ordered a few specialty rolls and waited for our orders to come up. The wait wasn't bad, especially considering we actually had 6 people in our group and only one chef.
I ordered the Playboy roll (tempura shrimp, tuna, avocado, cucumber with tobiko, spicy mayo & sweet eel sauce) and the Funky Charlie roll (tempura roll with tuna and spicy wasabi sauce), normally this would cost $23 but because it was half off rolls the price was very reasonable.
The Playboy roll was amazing, best sushi I have ever had. The taste of fish was fresh but not overpowering, you could really taste all of the different flavors as if they were all separate and not rolled together. It was a big roll and I probably could have stopped eating then, but I love tempura and that is the whole reason I ordered the next roll. The Funky Charlie roll was pretty good, it was a little spicy for my taste, probably because I am not yet a huge fan of wasabi. The roll itself was good and at the price I couldn't imagine a better roll to order.
The only problem I really have with this restaurant is the waitress service, have fun trying to order anything but sushi if you are sitting at the bar, they do not usually ask what you want to eat. Not all of the waitresses are this bad but it is really the luck of the draw, 50% of the time you will experience bad service. If you want to order something other than sushi I might suggest sitting at a table, maybe they are more attentive over there. The drinks can be on the small side, especially the water, so ask for a few if you need a lot to drink. I always order a soda with my water just so I don't have to wait around, and even then I usually have to wait 5 or 10 minutes after finishing the water and soda before another refill comes my way.
Happy for Happy Hour. You can't beat the feeling you get when you walk away from a meal totally stuffed, satisfied and only having had to pay 50%. Happy hour is definitely the time to visit Ahh Sushi.
I am allergic to many types of seafood so I opted for the chicken teriyaki and a side of the tempura veggies with ponzu sauce. Both were really good and better than average.
I did encounter a little issue with the server when I asked what was in the sauce. Naturally, having food allergies I like to know what I am eating. She seemed to think I was being difficult or picky, so I explained the allergy situation (which I hate having to do to qualify my requests but anyway) and she calmed down.
My boyfriend is a big sushi fan and was excited about the half price deal. He gorged himself on 4 different rolls and seemed to enjoy himself thoroughly.
I'm not sure if I would pay full price here now that I know about the deal, though :)
Timing: get there for Happy Hour. Great food, especially when you pay happy hour pricing! Then it's a steal!
Fun place!. I am not a sushi fan at all but ended up going with a friend who is. I loved the (non-sushi) dish I had. I definately want to go back and take my husband. We went on a Wednesday night which is half priced beers or something like that, so good night to go have a beer with the girls!
This joint hits the spot for sushi cravings. It's all about happy hour here though. I might think twice otherwise. Sushi rolls are only medium sized unfortunatley. If you're paying full price, I would want a little more bang for your buck. High quality and excellent service otherwise.
A Soup Kitchen for Sushi Addicts. Hit this place during happy hour and you'll be dining on moderately-priced, decent sushi with the great unwashed which, in this commoner's opinion, is part of the charm. Go get your fix!
So much better now!. I wasn't a big fan of the place when you could still smoke in bars because the smoke drifted from Ahh Shucks over powering the sushi. Which is incredible. Try the mussel shooters. I couldn't stop slurping them down. Love the servers and the private rooms in the back of the place. It's an old punks dream.
Ahh delicious. Daily lunch specials have made this place worth the cost of the membership. With the membership law disappearing this summer, there are no excuses to not try this place.
Sushi in SLC? Hell yes!
I like the Wednesday deals.. I usually go on a Wednesday for the sushi roll specials and $3 schooners of beer. The only complaint I have is, it's smokier beyond just smokey. You step into the place and wave of cigarette smoke hits you like a swarm of bats rushing to exit a cave. The music they played was good, just don't know if I can listen to much music for while, it was deafeningly loud. I recommend if you don't mind the noise and clouds of smoke.
Just ok. BUT they have 1/2 happy hour. for the entire menu. except drinks. you can deal with mediocrity for the chep, eh? attached to ahh schucks, but they still allow kids, which is annoying.
Wow.... If you are in downtown Salt lake city this place is a must! What a Gem. I'm from Ventura Beach California and I've had Sushi everywhere all day everyday. The Sushi rolls here are one of a kind and deserve praise. Strawberry fields roll was the most unique roll I have ever tasted. "The Brooklyn Roll" and "keep it classy San Diego" were Amazing! Almost forgot...they sell legit Burgers too.
Finally, Dawson the bartender gave fantastic service and recommendations. He has a great hospitality vibe and really provides an excellent experience for his customers! Give this Man a Raise! Thank you.
I stopped here before attending the Styx concert at the Eccles. It was very busy and everyone had come all at once. I was impressed with how quickly our waiter came over to get us drinks and take our order. We did have to wait for our food about 40 minutes, but we were at the end of many orders and the sushi chefs were rockin' out rolls quickly. We ordered four rolls and nigiri. Everything was delicious and I would most certainly go here again.
Great place! Great aesthetic! You go down a small set of stairs to enter this location. It was pretty busy but we were seated right away and the time it took to be served our food was very reasonable. Delicious food. We had the Confidential, Vegas, and Playboy rolls. Confidential was easily the best of the three, but the other options were very good as well.
Fun place. We got there early so it was low key. Service is not bad at all, just kinda lax. Got alot of food for a great price. Worth reading the specials board. We didn't particularly enjoy the spring rolls or the lemonade but we loved all the sushi! Yummy. It was a fun place to visit and we will return if we ever come back to Salt Lake City.
I’m new to the area and was searching for good sushi places and O’Shucks did not disappoint! One half of the bar is your typical bar with pool tables, etc. while the other side has a sushi bar and restaurant-type seating.
We went during the late night happy hour 10-11pm on a Friday night (my understanding is that its a daily special except for Wednesday’s but I’m not 100% sure). All the rolls were 1/2 off. They were very unique and the tasty! Great quality ingredients. We tried
The Confidential, Mars, the Caterpillar, and Playboy. All were great but I listed my favorites in order!
Will definitely be back. We had such a great time!
Service is outstanding here!! Made special modifications for me to have gf sushi, and even took my fav fish into consideration for the nigiri combo. Happy hour specials are amazing, with $3 burgers and half off rolls. Cocktail was decent, but the winner for me was a massive goblet of draft beer 🍻
Cool bar and sushi joint located on the lower level of a building. You need to be 21 and up to enter after showing ID. Food is tasty. Nice vibe and good music too. Has the essence of a nice sushi place and bar at the same time
Wonderful spot for drinks and sushi. Amazing vibe, great energy, delicious & fresh sushi. Nelson was an awesome dude, and will absolutely be frequenting this spot that’s been around for almost 30 yrs!
I have been here a few times now the service and food are great. One of the employees with red hair ordered all of our sushi for us and legit was the best sushi experience to date for me. The atmosphere is great and reasonable pricing for location. I will definitely be coming back
They check your ID right at the door so make sure you have it on you! Staff is great, the place is clean and the sushi was fantastic. I tried something called the Brooklyn Bomber and I loved it. Spicy but not overpowering! They're also flexible with drinks too. The menu for drinks isn't overwhelming but they're pretty good at mixing things up.
Hannah was our waitress. She was quick, knowledgeable, friendly and had a great smile! Ask for her if she's working!
For those wondering, this is an Irish/Sushi bar.
For those still wondering, the owners are a couple: one Irish, the other Japanese.
The atmosphere is split down the middle, with half being sushi bar and the other a pub, but everything is available everywhere.
I will mention, the pub is faster than the sushi, but both are exemplary. You can have either a standard beer, cocktail, or sake. Food wise, both Pub fare and Sushi are available. This is a combo that should not work, but does.
Cannot recommend it enough
Cocktails and sushi (confidential roll) so good :)
This is one of the weirdest places I’ve been, but in the best way. The staff were all helpful and fast. The sushi was great, and good prices too.
This is the best sushi I’ve ever had, by a long shot! Incredible flavor, and so beautifully made; each bite is a masterpiece! The atmosphere in this underground sushi bar is so welcoming and inclusive, sitting at the bar was so much fun. I’m about to be a regular at this place. All the stars, highly recommend
The Sushi was excellent and the staff was friendly. Have your ID ready, it will be checked at the door
