I recently had the pleasure of visiting M.H Bread and Butter in San Anselmo, California, and it was an absolute delight! The artisanal breads are to die for, exuding freshness and authentic flavor profiles. Their butter, smooth and rich, perfectly complements the baked goods. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, and the staff go above and beyond to ensure an impeccable dining experience. Highly recommended for anyone in or passing through the area. Truly a hidden gem!
A decent place if you’re hiking and biking around. Pretty packed around 1130 of a Saturday and you might need to wait for place to sit. Average quality of food, does prefer croissant waffle to my almond butter toast. I’d prefer if they didn’t put the syrup over the slices apples but those are great apples. Decorative strawberries are fresh but sour. Husband didn’t like their matcha latte saying it’s a little bit watery for them, my oat latte is ok but also on the lighter side compared to my Bluebottle regulars. Would love to try out their sandwich menu or other bakeries next time.
Parking fairly easy - if not directly across the street there are a lot if you just go ahead for a block. They’ll deliver food to you but drinks are self pick up on the other end of the register.

This place is magnificent! Sincerely the best bread, croissants, and pastries I have so far in my life. The butter croissant is so flaky, light, and Layered with butter and the soft pliable perfectly baked center is magical. Low carb, ketogenic diets be damned. If you are even remotely close it is worth the visit. Having only tried 6 items off the menu (all were ) unbelievable in flavor and presentation. Must have!
Wow. The baked egg dish is phenomenal. The variety of flavors complement each other so well! And I love that you get grounding sweet potato and also fresh zingy greens on top. Variety but balanced. So yum. Thank you.

Their bread is delish!! You can get Good sandwiches as well as espresso drinks/lattes.
There is a Big bright indoor as well as outdoor space and plenty of parking. The original owners did things better, but MHBB is still a reliably good place to eat and as well as take things to go. Their help is usually very attentive and thoughtful. They also have 2 spacious restrooms.
The breakfast salad with chicken was plentiful and delicious with trumpet and enoki mushrooms. Would have loved for the lardons to be crispier and one more poached egg. Kale salad with chicken was also a hit. Next time I'll need to try their breakfast sandwich and quiche. Outdoor seating was sunny and delightful
Working in the area, I stopped for a Savory Scone on my short break. It was out-of-this- world delicious.
Great bread and pastries, all the egg dishes are worth trying for sure.
Love the outside seating area and the kind service. Very busy spot, great to also grab a loaf of bread to go.
Been in San Anselmo a few days and always noticed this place is packed in the mornings. Glad I stopped by, the meal was epic and the price point spot on. Wanted to try the Polenta but it was already sold out. Super impressed and love seeing these types of mom and pop businesses thrive.
Super friendly efficient staff. Sunday was busy but didn't wait long for service. Breads are wonderful. Picked up a sour dough to go after eating our breakfast.
