Southerleigh Fine Food and Brewery  136 E Grayson St., in The Pearl, (210) 455-5701.  This dramatic restaurant and brewery operates inside the landmark 1894 building that was originally Pearl’s Brewhouse.  Chicago architect August Maritzen designed more than 80 breweries--this one in the Second Empire style--think high ceilings and plenty of brick.  Beer flights and small bites dominate a seasonal menu featuring delicious southern fare that includes deviled-ham eggs and jalapeno-cheddar grits.  Brunch is a popular time to relax with a spicy Michelada beer cocktail, a fresh orange juice mimosa, or a house-made brew.  A popular food choice then is shrimp boil, consisting of Galveston bay shrimp and corn rounds.  An eggs Benedict variation features braised country ham atop jalapeno corn bread with a Cajun cream Hollandaise.  Kids are catered to with a special menu that includes a white-cheddar grilled cheese, fish sticks, and more.  It is presented on a cooking tray with a soft ball of dough for them to twist into a pretzel.  They love it, and it keeps them quite busy while they wait for food to appear.  When they are finished twisting, their creation can be sweetened with a sprinkling of cinnamon-sugar and baked into real pretzel.  My delighted granddaughter ate most of hers for dessert and took the rest home.

We shared a flight of beer and a few oysters. We were trying to hit every spot in the district and have a little something at each one. The bartenders were all very attentive and friendly.

Great atmosphere and wonderful food

Some local friends brought us here for dinner while my husband and I came to San Antonio for my husband’s business trip. What a great spot this is! The atmosphere is so charming, and the food was very good, too. We ate “snapper throats”-what?

We arrived not knowing we needed reservations, however the "Front of House" said he would arrange for us and did quite quickly. Ribeye plate was exceptional.

The restaurants at the Pearl tend to be a little on the trendy side for my tastes, but nevertheless I enjoy being there because I love the overall ambiance that you get with urban revitalization and the repurposing and reutilization of older buildings.

At Southerleigh I also get a kick out of the idea that there is now a new brewery operating at the site of what once was an old brewery...

I wonder if the ghosts of brewmasters long past keep watch over things? If they did, do may marvel at the combinations of ingredients in these modern and trendy brews, (like cantaloupe for instance) or do they pine for their own glory days long past?

Well, times change I suppose, and while I personally don't need the flavor of watermelon (or anything like it) to accompany my beer other than maybe a squeeze of lime in a Dos Equis, the multitude of brews available here are mostly enjoyable and the more mainstream lines which suit my tastes are in my opinion quite good.

We had the ribeye with crab macaroni and cheese and the pork rack which is essentially two giant chops with shrimp and grits. Generous portions left us with lunch for the next day and no guilt about having desert.

Food and service were excellent. The hostess reserved the best corner table for a couple dining alone which made it quite nice. The manager Felipe was on top of all the details.

Improvements might include a slightly more reasonable wine by the glass and a candle on the table so that patrons aren't all lighting up their phones in order to read the menu but otherwise a great dining experience.

Reservations are a good idea.

Great food. Sat at the chefs table and watched the kitchen. Great experience. We will be visiting again. The rolls were excellent. I had catfish with étouffée, which was delicious. It had okra in it, which is usually pretty risky because it turns the dish a little slimy, but they pulled it off. I loved the rolls with pork fat and the chicken cracklings with hot sauce.

We made reservations and were seated right on time.
My boyfriend drank one of their beers and was impressed by the quality and taste.
The food was good. We did not try food off their menu as we went during restaurant week, but the food we did have was tasty and sufficient.
The ambience is good for anything from a girl's night to a date night.
The staff is friendly. Our waiter was a tad bit slow that day. It did take him longer than expected to get our order, but the supporting staff was excellent. Our food came out fast and our water was never low.
The menu looks excellent and I can't wait to try more from their menu.

The food was very good, but the service left a little to be desired.
Our server seemed a bit disinterested throughout the meal, disappearing for long periods of time in the beginning, and seemed to forget about my wife's beer (then not bringing the correct one when she remembered). That issue aside, the food was very good. We tried the deviled eggs and pretzel appetizers and we're pleased- although the spicy mustard dip for the pretzel had too much horse radish for either of us. I ordered the Snapper étouffée with the cheese grits and couldn't have been happier with my choice. The fish was cooked perfectly with just a little char on the edges and the grits were tasty. My wife got the beef cheeks and was blown away! They were tender and packed full of flavor.
I would definitely recommend Southerleigh to anyone looking for a high end meal in a casual atmosphere.

Visited twice during business trips to San Antonio and each time I was very impressed with the service. Attentive wait staff who easily answered menu questions. Would highly recommend the jalapeño cornbread and their fried chicken. Found the soup delicious but quite rich for my taste, so would recommend ordering a cup and not a bowl. Salad with the pickles was fresh and bright and surprisingly delicious. My favorite thing about Southerleigh though is its unique vibe and history.

Took a party of 12 to Southerly on a Thursday evening. Service was good for a single waitress helping out 12 people. Overall, the food was very good, albeit roughly $35 a person. They do offer a 15% military discount which is nice. The calamari appetizer was awesome and the side salad was huge. The brewed in house beers were okay, nothing spectacular, but everyone who had a cocktail raved about them. The fish was a big hit, the chicken was super tender and moist, and the steak was perfectly cooked. The key lime cheesecake was great and the pineapple upside down cake was awesome. We sat outside, which was not a great choice for San Antonio in August. There weren't any misters to cut the heat.

Great food and service. Very allergen friendly. Steak salad was lightly dressed and a great balance of medium rare steak and fresh salad. Fish sandwich, chicken sandwich and burger were great. Kids chicken strips were lightly breaded and egg free. The pretzel was hot fresh and lightly buttered . The lemonade was slightly tart and baly. Great fast service

Service was excellent and food was good. Only issue is they messed up my order and put cheese on my chicken sandwich. I sent it back but I think they recycled my order because it was back in less than 2 minutes. Wine selection was decent. They have home brew craft beer on tap, too. Definitely must try this location. Not many menu items for 11am Saturday but I'll probably try the chicken and waffles next.

Fun place and history. Service was good. Portions are large and reasonable. Think sharing! We had the Steak and Frites, Deviled egg, and Shrimp boil, plus others. I even bought a cookbook signed at the time by the chef.

It's very rare for me to rate a restaurant 5 Stars across the board, but Southerleigh earns every star. What an amazing gem to not only San Antonio, but the State of Texas. This place is nestled into one of the most romantic spots in Texas and the food is still blowing me away one week later. By far the best Fried Chicken I've eaten in my life. Three others at my table ordered the chicken and echoed my sentiments. This stuff is amazing. The server told me that they brine it for 24 hours in a Jalapeño Brine (it was not spicy) and then cook it in a $10,000 pressure cooker. Not sure what makes a pressure cooker that costly, but something is working right. Other stand out dishes were the Jalapeño Cheddar Grits. Not one spoonful was left over. Service was world-class, the venue was remarkably cozy and posh. We loved every moment at this restaurant and cannot wait to visit again. 100% this is a "can't miss" experience in San Antonio.

I recently dined at Southerleigh’s and I must say, their salads are absolutely delicious. The freshness of the ingredients and the variety of toppings made for a delightful meal. The vibrant flavors and crisp textures were a true treat for the taste buds. My guest raved about their burger. It was nothing short of scrumptious. The perfectly cooked patty, topped with cheese, lettuce, and a flavorful sauce, created a mouthwatering experience. The potatoes were a real treat too! Needless to say, the restaurant’s outdoor atmosphere topped off the experience. We are eager to return for more culinary delights next year.

Lively rustic vibe located in the Pearl Brewery. Our waitress was super helpful. We arrived at 1:00pm so we ordered off the brunch/lunch menu. We started off with drinks. We ordered the fried chicken sandwich, shrimp boil, Belgium waffles, Chicken and Waffles, and Crab Mac and Cheese. We all shared, so we could have a sample of everything. Everything was delicious. Now I will break it down by my opinion of the meal. The crab Mac and Cheese -lacked flavor, for my liking. I couldn’t taste the crab. So, i drizzled some of the juice from the shrimp boil on it, and loved that combination. Chicken and Waffles- this was my favorite out of the meals. The chicken was juicy and cooked perfectly. The waffle was fluffy and the syrup was flavorful and delicious. The Belgium waffle was delicious also. Fried Chicken Sandwich- I loved the crust and flavor, but the chicken was dry. Other than that it would have been amazing. Shrimp boil- I thought it was seasoned perfectly. It was delicious. We ended our meal with a gooey warm cinnamon roll topped with cream cheese frosting. We will definitely be back.

Had the house salad with chicken which was nice and huge. Husband got steak frites which he enjoyed, we shared a calamari which came with an indian type curry sauce and he tried a few different beers brewed here. They gave 3 free very generous samples which was great ! The venue itself is very cool, as all linked to the old brewery. On the way to the toilets there is a nice origin story and also it can lead straight into Hotel Emma which is beautiful. Very quaint, we really enjoyed our lunch. Staff were very helpful aswell and it's nicely located right in the middle of the Pearl.

Came here on a Monday night. Laurence was our waiter. He was very attentive and professional. I loved how he had some recommendations for us. We started off with some drinks and appetizer. Drinks and App: The Cellerman (Cocktail) 5/5 Mangoes & sticky rice (Beer) 5/5 Fried Calamari with curry sauce We absolutely loved our drink. The Cellerman was basically an old fashion. It was very strong which was great! The beer was perfect. The calamari was so good because it came with a curry dipping sauce. They were not skimpy. It was generous portion for Calamari. We had the Famous Fried Chicken and Pork Schnitzel. We also ordered the Crab Mac for the side. Famous Fried Chicken 5/5 Pork Schnitzel 5/5 Crab Mac 1/5 The fried chicken was delicious. The Pork Schnitzel was perfect...coming from someone that used to live in Germany and ate Pork Schnitzel frequently. The homemade pasta(Spaetzle) served with the pork was delicious. The texture was softer than pasta. The Crab Mac was dry and had no taste to it. Very disappointed especially for the price of it being $18. I've had fast food mac and cheese that tasted 10 times better. Other than that the portions were generous. It is a little pricey but it was a great dinner for date night. We would definitely come back.

We stopped here while visiting family in San Antonio. The location is perfect, nestled around other restaurants within the Pearl. The food and service was excellent. We had the Steak and Frites, Pork Schnitzel and Fish as well as the Pretzel. All of our meals were delicious and cooked to perfection. We also tried a few of their beers which were nice and cold. The staff was very attentive. Overall we enjoyed our dining experience.

Southerleigh is a beautiful restaurant/brewery at The Pearl in San Antonio. We order the schnitzel, fingerling potatoes (that mornay sauce 🤤) and the steak frites. The beer was good and the food was absolute perfection.

Impromptu dinner @southerleigh_fine_food tonight. Dad wanted some oysters, so we stopped by. I had the Strawberry Lemonade, my brother and husband both had Southerlite draft, Dad had Lemonade, and my SIL had a mocktail. We all shared a dozen oysters. Dad and I shared a cup of mushroom soup, and my SIL had a cup of shrimp bisque. My husband had a house salad to start. My SIL and Dad shared the Grilled Kampachi Filet, I had their Fried Chicken, my brother had the Steak Frites, and my husband had the Redfish. So full with food leftover. Great food!

Get the famous fried chicken, but you have to call it yourself. I can't call it for you. It wouldn't be fair. It wouldn't even be right. This chicken has traveled a great distance to get here. And now it’s here, and it’s fried and delicious. It's either fired chicken or something else. You stand to win everything. Call it.

Our bartender was fantastic!!! The drinks were superb. Love sitting at the bar, food looked great-nothing gluten-free so didn't eat, but it sure looked yummy. Couldn't be happier with the service and bartender. He was so kind, and we laughed alot.

I did go with chefs recomendation of medium rare but would possibly go for rare next time 🙃 10/10 would go back!

Simply hands down a can’t miss in San Antonio. We visited with a reservation on a Friday night at 5:30pm and every detail was perfect. Seated immediately, kind staff at the doors to guide us in, greeted warmly by our server Meredith, tasted a flight of exceptional beers from the micro brewery - all of this was exquisite and we hadn’t even tried the food yet. The duck egg rolls and beet salad were both delicious and then we saw the mushroom soup so had to taste. That dish we will remember forever! Our entrees were also a hit (kampachi for my husband and scallops for me). We couldn’t say no to the coconut key lime cheesecake and glad we didn’t. We can’t wait to be back. Wish we got the runners name - he was so friendly! Thanks Meredith and Philippe for the great conversation and service!
