Great ambiance and atmosphere. Historic bar/restaurant in downtown San Antonio. If you are visiting San Antonio it is certainly a place to check out. I don't really drink much but the drinks on the menu looked interesting. I just got a local beer which was nice. THe food seemed to be just OK from the opinions of the people I had dinner with. They got the chicken fried steak and were not impressed - chicken fried steak is hard to not do a good job. I am vegetarian and the only option they had was a salad. It is a meat eating restaurant so I did not expect much so I just got sides which was a nice alternative. All in all not a bad experience but I think the food could have been better. Certainly worth a visit if you are visiting San Antonio.

The Esquire Tavern, touted as the oldest tavern in San Antonio, did not disappoint these travelers from NC. The tranquil setting, historical attributes, and plentiful libations provided a memorable evening on the San Antonio river walk. The dim lighting, unmistakable charm, and inviting ambience bespoke of an unforgettable bar experience. The story goes that The Esquire Tavern was established in 1933, a celebration of the end of Prohibition. On the day that prohibition ended, The Esquire Tavern was mysteriously stocked and prepared to serve the masses. Since that time, it has been a favorite watering hole for locals and tourist alike. Upon entering, we sat at the bar and we were welcomed with genuineness and warmth. I enjoyed a passion fruit margarita and my boyfriend enjoyed his traditional crown And coke. The country fried steak and potatoes were delicious and the portion size was more than I could handle. When we return to San Antonio, we will definitely visit the Esquire tavern! This is a little gem of a saloon that we happened upon. Had a fabulous Bison burger and great beer. It's really dark inside, but just adds to the ambiance. I'd highly recommend stopping by. 🤠

Very am assuming spot with just the right kind of chill. The ambience is very welcoming, cold and dark inside. Long bar with plenty of seating. We wanted to sit outside on the patio but the tables were small for a group of four so we opted for inside by the windows. Server was great very attentive. Drinks were strong and tasty. Food was delicious! We had the brisket fries and the deviled eggs. We also tried the Wagyu Burger and the CFS. The portions are huge; well worth the menu pricing.

Step into the cocoon of charm that is The Esquire Tavern, where dim lighting and inviting ambience set the stage for an unforgettable bar experience. Nestled alongside the River Walk, even amid the blazing August sun, this establishment offers a tranquil escape from the sweltering heat of San Antonio. The allure of history and distinctive libations drew us in. The tale goes that The Esquire Tavern was born in 1933, a celebration of the end of Prohibition, and since then, it's stood as a cherished watering hole in San Antonio. Notably, it boasts the longest wooden bar in Texas, and while it's tempting to assume that title extends worldwide, I'll keep that as an educated guess. Upon entering, we were greeted with warmth and curiosity. Our quest led us to the infamous oyster beer – a legendary concoction. If you're feeling adventurous, I encourage you to inquire about it. The intrigue is palpable, and the experience promises to be 'unique'. Unfortunately, on that particular day, the draught had run dry, leaving us with a perfect excuse to revisit. Moses echoes our sentiments, offering his hearty recommendation. Visited on August 13, 2023

The bar is great. But if you are with a significant other, I highly recommend the "lovers table" on the balcony. You will be sitting at a table overlooking the riverwalk all by yourself due the location of the stairway. Makes for a very intimate location within the festive riverwalk. The table location was made all the better by the wonderful service, food, and drinks.

Way too dark, I literally needed a flashlight to read the menu. Excellent service and delicious food. And bragging rights about going to the oldest tavern in San Antonio Texas. I had the pulled pork sandwich and the hush money beverage, both were very tasty.

It is the oldest bar at the river walk in San Antonio. The inside tables and atmosphere look good. But I prefer the outside tables next to the riverwalk. It is the 2nd floor, so the view for the river walk is very good.

This place had a cool vibe. The food menu didnt appeal to us so we just had drinks and sat outside on the upper balcony. The drinks were good but pricey. Nice view

We stopped by to have a couple of drinks. The place has very low lights which makes it feel very romantic. The drinks are somehow small but they're strong so not a big deal, also they have some signature cocktails which contain very interesting flavors. They also have mocktails (non-alcoholic cocktails) which is great if you don't drink alcohol at all. I ordered the Hush Payments cocktails which contains vodka, vanilla and passion fruit, a very interesting combination of flavors. My partner got the Fox Motel Rendezvous that contained rye, sotol, and chocolate mole bitters among other ingredients, it was also delicious.
