I have been coming to San Antonio for many, many years (mostly for music conferences). I consider myself a BBQ connoisseur (I know, every Texan does). I’ve been to lots of BBQ restaurants in my life and I think County Line rates among the best. I love the family style all you can eat “Cadillac”. Very tender meats and great smoke flavor. Hearty sides and FABULOUS bread. Thank you for another great visit.

Excellent service, waitress was very polite and friendly; made some great recommendations. Bread is freshly baked and the black-eyed peas are delicious! Known for their bar-be-cue, The County Line doesn't disappoint. Pricing is a little steep but your stomach will not be disappointed.

Go just for the deviled eggs!

They are the best deviled eggs I've ever had. while you are there order some BBQ. I personally like the smoked turkey and pinto beans. Live entertainment on summer weekends.

I had the three meat combo with chicken, sausage, and brisket. The sides were beans and slaw. The chicken was smoky and moist, the brisket tender and smoky (with a nice smoke ring), but the sausage was amazing! I think the BBQ sauce was actually quite good, with just the right amount of heat. My only concern is that there were no beers on tap and basically only Shiner for local beers. Maybe I’m just a northwesterner looking for something I can’t find in Texas.

The brisket was delicious and had a savory sauce. The Cole slaw was good too. The beans are good with just a hint of heat. Just wish they had more of an alcohol selection.

Great sausage. Very good brisket. The pork ribs were dry and not very meaty. Otherwise a very good meal. Bread is very good. Sides are solid, although we were not crazy about the coleslaw.

This edition of Excited about Eating takes us to the great state of Texas and to The County Line in San Antonio. Located on the beautiful River Walk in downtown, this BBQ joint serves up all of your Texas BBQ favorites. With a huge outdoor seating area on the water and an old charm, eccentric interior, this place has something for everyone.

We took the family for dinner here last night and were not disappointed.
Once again, as with all of our experiences along the Riverwalk, service was uniformly excellent; friendly, prompt and professional. Also consistent with our other experiences here, all of the Riverwalk restaurants including The County Line are enjoyable to sit in and take in the area's ambiance.
The food was excellent - great BBQ - brisket, ribs, chicken and steak all with great flavor and large portions - you won't leave hungry.
If there was a nitpick for me, it was the lack of draft beer, which seems a staple with most of the local competition. County Line does have a good selection of local beer in bottles, but no draft sadly.
Price was again good value - around $160 for five of us, including bar and tip. I really enjoyed this place and it's excellent smokehouse food.

LOVE the BEEF RIBS. My husband and I love all the County Line restaurants we've been to except for the one on IH-10 around De Zavala (bad service).

In our humble opinion the best ones are in Austin, however, the Riverwalk one is also magical because of the location and, of course, those unique beef ribs. We also love the brisket, potato salad and the cole slaw, which is not sweet. We don't like most cole slaw because the dressing is way to sugary: not so at County Line.

Tourist Trap Barbeque. Perfect for the tourist trade, The Country Line boasts nice outdoor dining space, views of the Riverwalk and the most enthusiastic staff I have ever seen. However, the barbeque is pedestrian. Go for the drinks.

OK for what it is.... CL BBQ is good for what it is: high priced, over-the-top, tourist-attracting food joint. I ordered ribs, my wife smoked turkey and brisket. We also ordered the special "home-made" bread. We were satisfied with our meal, and our waiter was pleasant and efficient. If you want legendary Texas barbecue, drive to the BBQ mecca east of Austin. If you're hungry along the SA riverwalk, you could do worse than CL.

This is a great, classic, must-visit, destination Texas Roadhouse Barbecue restaurant; The food quality, variety of food and service quality is excellent; the beef ribs are the best on the planet. Barbecue brisket, chicken and sausage offerings are very good too. The potato salad is unique and quite tasty (unlike any other that I've ever tasted). You've got to try it. The staff is courteous and competent and the facility is pristine. It is a bit pricey but worth every cent. This is really the only true high-end, top quality barbecue restaurant in the downtown/river walk/convention area of the city; therefore, if you desire to entertain a client from out of town at a bonafide traditional Texas smokehouse in the central business district... County Line on the river walk is the place to go!
Great barbecue every time. Enjoy!

My First Texas BBQ... in Texas. We often eat at a Texas style BBQ place at home, but this was the first time I have had Texas BBQ in Texas. We had the jalapeno chese bites- quite good, slightly spicy. I had the brisket and the pork ribs with beans and slaw. I liked the slaw, it was chunky and creamy, a little differnet than what I am used to, but delicious and it blended well with the BBQ sauce. The beans were not all all what I expected. They were more like stewed pinto beans prepared with smoked meat. Although they were quite tasty, if you are used to BBQ or baked beans with your 'que the you may want to pass. And now the meat... the pork ribs were tender (just before falling off the bone, but still with a good mouthfeel) and the brisket was tender and juicy; however, the portions were a little small for the price. The sauce was exactly what I have come to expect from a Texas tyle sauce, tangy, slightly citrus-y, a little bite, and spread all over the meat on my plate- one of the better Texas style sauces I have had, but then again I have yet to eat much BBQ inside the state lines. The next time my husband goes to Dallas on business, I'll have to boondoggle just to have a comparison. Altogether, I thought it was good, worth the money. I think I have found a Riverwalk trend though... pricey!

It Will Eat. Enjoyed a lunch here late afternoon. Husband got the rib/brisket combo with beans and slaw, and I got the brisket/sausage combo with slaw and fries. We both enjoyed our meal. The slaw was different than normal, the cabbage was in huge chunks instead of shredded. Brisket was well cooked and the sausage was good. Service was good.

Pretty good. This was my third try in a series of restaurants hoping for really good food on the river walk. County line mostly delivered. I enjoyed almost all of their meats. But the ribs were pretty bad. Dry and tough. Good potatoes, bland beans, AWESOME bread. It really was a mixed bad but overall worth the trip. Just don't go if you're hoping for good ribs.

We were looking for authentic Texas BBQ on the Riverwalk. Not sure we found it at County Line but we still enjoyed our dinner. My wife and I shared a combo platter- it was plenty of food for both us. We had sausage, baby back ribs and brisket. The brisket was good. The rest was average. Next time we go back I want the beef rib platter! It looks amazing.

It's not a waste of time, eatin' at the County Line!. We arrived in San Antonio with two great desires beyond the Riverwalk and the Alamo experience, my wife of having real Tex-Mex food, and my salivating over getting really good down home Texas BBQ. My choice of County Line Riverwalk did not let me down. We had lunch there and enjoyed the Texas-style atmosphere, the saloon-style décor, its unpretentious vibes and atmosphere, the open air to the patio/river area, the great (no) fantastic service (our server enjoyed us, as much as we enjoyed her), and last, but not least, a fantastic selection of Texas BBQ. So much on the menu appeared mouth watering, that we decided to go for a huge sampler. We decided on the 5 Meat Smokehouse Platter, this sampler included sausage, beef and pork ribs, chicken and beef brisket, all of it fantastic... we ordered another side of pork bbq ‘cause it was so finger-lickin’ good. We also had a side of delicious baked beans, French fries, and washed it down with a couple of Coors’ Light beers (my wife had tea). Now that was a good lunch, and I’ll gladly go back next time we’re in San Antone! Keep it up County Line!

5 Meat. I chose the 5 meat platter because i was really hungry and almost went for the all you can eat but was glad i didnt. There was enough on my plate for two people.

The meat was good and flavorful. The beef rib was a little tough to get the meat off of but was the only weak point of the platter. Brisket was nice and smokey I just wish there had been more on the plate. The sausage, baby back ribs were good as well. I was extremely surprised by the turkey and how moist it was.

As for the sauce. It definately had a distinct flavor but i liked it. If you are not sure, order it on the side. Don't be like some of the other reviewers on here and have a negative experience when you know you might now like the sauce.

Now, i can eat but i had a hard time putting all of that food away. You get one giant beef rib, a small rack of baby back ribs(about 5 inches across), one sausage link, a good portion of turkey and brisket. I doubted it'd be enough to fill me up but i was wrong. definitely check this place out. Its a little pricey but the food is good and so are the portions. Also you are downtown on the Riverwalk and its all going to be pricey, but it sure beats going to a chili's and paying 15 for some crappy baby back ribs.

Good BBQ. Not being too much of a BBQ expert we thought the food was very good. My wife had a rack of baby back ribs that were very good and very tender and smoky. I had the brisket that was very well prepared. I shy away from brisket because it is all too often dry. Not so in this instance the smoked flavor for both the ribs and brisket was very good. The BBQ sauce was also quite good. Half of the rack and some of the brisket made it into a to-go box and gave us another tasty meal.

Lots of sauce - good but not great. This BBQ was good but I was very disappointed when my brisket was served covered in bbq sauce. Texas BBQ should be big on smoke and flavorings not sauce. My husband and father-in-law had really good melt in your mouth ribs. I think I would try that if I were to come back here.

Try the Combo. I could not finish it. Great hickory flavoured sauce. Smaller ribs in the combo were tastier (and easier to eat than large ones). hint of city's German heritage with the german sausage in the combo as well.

Great location and only downside is that it is very touristy and prices probably reflect that.

Very pleasant atmosphere being right on the riverwalk. Service was excellent. We had a reservation and were seated right away, and at an indoor table right by the windows looking on the riverwalk. Our wait staff was very pleasant, helpful in our menu selections, and attentive to our needs. I ordered the 2nd cut brisket platter, my wife had the lean brisket platter, and my daughter had the pork ribs, but of course we all shared. The 2nd brisket platter was excellent! The lean brisket was also very good, but a tad dry since it's lean of course. The 2nd cut is more flavorful, and much more tender and juicy. Easy solution, just order the 2nd cut platter over the lean. The pork ribs were also spot-on perfect. All the meats had excellent smoke flavor and could easily stand on their own without BBQ sauce, which to me, truly great BBQ shouldn't need sauce. While not needed, I did try the BBQ sauce and it was fantastic too. Just the right balance of sweet and tart, as (I think) a BBQ sauce should be. For sides, we had coleslaw, potato salad, and Mac & cheese. The Mac & cheese was okay, but a little flat in taste. The coleslaw and potato salad overall had great flavor, but as other reviewers have said, a bit too heavily salted. I found the simple solution: just ask for a side of mayonnaise to mix in and then they're perfect. Finally, my wife and daughter had the banana pudding for dessert. I didn't try it but they said it was some of the best they've had. I highly recommend The County Line. Just get the 2nd cut, over the lean brisket if you can, and ask for a side of mayo with the coleslaw and potato salad. I thought the prices were reasonable for what we were getting. I only wish I had found this place sooner. I will definitely go back again, and again, and again!

Came here while visiting the Riverwalk, having arrived there and deciding on it after looking around along the river. Got the Meat Plate for 2 with collard greens (vegetable of the day) and potato salad. Meat and sides all were good; I liked the ribs best and my wife liked the turkey best. Good "country" kind of barbeque. Atmosphere was fun and pleasant. They have some outdoor seating, which would have been nice if it hadn't been so hot.

One of the better places to get barbecue on the river walk. The 2nd cut brisket was plenty tender and just enough smokey. If you’re looking for that smoke ring taste, the lean brisket was just right. The bread had a great honey spread with it. Drinks aren’t too expensive and the collard greens really surprised me. Overall, this is a go-to when I’m craving BBQ on the river. You can’t beat their prices either!

8/26 past 8pm. It was three meats to go order. The attendant (female) who took my order over the phone was very courteous and accommodating. The bartender who assisted me is also nice and food came right on time. The food was ok. Mc and cheese is little overcooked however it was kinda late and assuming kitchen is getting prepared to close which is understandable. The collard greens are delicious for what it is. Sausage is juicy and tender. Ribs are tender. I think that the vinegar on their bbq sauce is overpowering the flavor. Little disappointed with brisket its little dry and not much flavor but again it’s kinda late and not a lot of places are still serving what they have on the menu this night. The bread and butter are also tasting good. The box is not tidy for how much their charging for $32 for the plate including tax (no beverage) and consider where they are located, I can understand if it’s little finger print here and there or few sauce that’s missed to wipe but the outside box aren’t clean at all and cups from side dishes and pink not sure what part of the food has pink and all sorts of color some aren’t in the picture. But overall I’m happy that they’re open since I was starving and staff are still energized on Saturday and riverwalk was busy this day. I was greeted and acknowledged when I walked in the restaurant.

I had the Lean Cut Brisket which was nicely sliced. It was tender and smokey. The barbecue sauce was neither too sweet, nor too tangy. Very well balanced. The Cole Slaw was a tad too salty and the Potato Salad was too sour from the pickle relish. The bread came out warm and soft, but was too dry. I drank the Meltdown Rita Grande which was ok. It didn't have much of a lime flavor. The service was quick and the waiter was attentive.

There is a lot to choose from on the Riverwalk, and there's certainly a number of BBQ places. That being said, you won't go wrong here. The food was very good and the service was excellent, especially considering it was a Saturday night. I had the smoked pepper turkey which was moist and delicious. BBQ sauce is sweet with a slight kick. Mac and Cheese side was decent but not great. Fries were good. Their Smoked Bourbon Old Fashioned sounded good, but they were out. So, I went with the Moscow Mule with Buffalo Trace and it did not disappoint. Make sure to get some of the fresh bread with your meal.

I wasn’t sure what to expect as I’ve had a lot of disappointment recently with various barbecue restaurants between San Antonio Fort Worth. Today was not one of those occasions. I came for BBQ and got what expected. The prices were reasonable and the taste was in point. The meat actually tasted and looked like it had been smoked. Everything was delicious. I had the three meat platter with Ribs, which there is a up charge for, brisket and chicken 1/4. I chose macaroni and cheese and potato salad for my sides. My only complaint, and I’m not calling this a complaint, was that the potato salad was a tad bit on the salty side. That’s just me, I have a really low sodium tolerance so like I said, not really a complaint. The staff was friendly. You deserve your five stars based on taste, quality and price. Thank k you for being in a very touristy are and not killing folk with exorbitantly high prices. Jay

The bbq is pretty decent for a tourist spot. They give you too much food that you want to complain but should not 🤣. I would definitely try the bread on the appetizer menu comes out fresh made in the kitchen with honey butter. It goes great with your bbq plate. The sausage, ribs and brisket were all good. The collards and mac and cheese are thumbs up. The mac and cheese is soupy but not watered down at all. Also try the banana pudding it is some of the best I've had.
