I am wary in posting a review about this place because I do not want anyone to know about this place! It's just a great place to go eat breakfast or lunch. The entire staff is great and pleasant. It does get busy during the lunch and church times, but it is well worth it's weight in bread! They do supply their bread to other small businesses here in SA so that's another great detail about them.

The desserts are also grand! The carrot cake is well known to who knows :D The handpies are so comforting with a cup of tea or coffee. And their daily "birthday cake" is always a marvel to look at.

Found this hidden gem doing a google search of restaurants on my way to an appointment. Didn't have much time and was in and out so quickly. I did order the special for lunch - both the sandwich and the coconut cauliflower curry soup. They were divine! My husband enjoyed his chicken-salad salad and everyone around us were enjoying their tasty looking treats and lunches as well. Chris Q was an excellent server. Everyone there was very attentive and kept our drinks filled. I want to go back NOW!

The Bread Box is nestled into an area called The Alley, and they claim to bake everything on site, fresh daily, including their breads, pastries, cupcakes, and pies! When you first walk in, there's a huge display of their baked goods to buy and take home, or you can dine in for breakfast or lunch. It's a cozy place to meet up with your mom or some girlfriends.

Weekend lunch menu consists mostly of sandwiches (combo available with soup or salad and chips), our group shared a couple along with some pie slices. The Chicken Ranch Bacon sandwich looked and smelled great but I'm not much of a bacon person. The chicken salad with pecans and grapes, a version I usually don't care for, was super fresh. The Italian Melt was the best pick of the bunch with fresh tomato and basil, and it paired well with their poblano cream soup. Lemon Meringue and Peach Cobbler pies were both well-made with solid crusts, but the meringue stole the show with the perfect level of tartness!

NOTE: Online menu includes vegetarian/vegan items that are no longer available (cauliflower melt, beet Reuben), only saw one vegan option currently (lentil bowl) and a friend was underwhelmed by the portion for the price.

Love to buy there sour dough bread. Best in San Antonio.
I always get 2 loaves and freeze one. They both taste great.
Great shopping in all the shops in The Alley.

This bakery and deli may be difficult to find, but it was worth it.
I had the beet Ruben with potato chips. The sauce in the sandwich was on point.
The birthday cake was light and not too sweet. Their pecan tart was super sweet.

Their menu is limited and changes seasonally.

High tea might be traditionally a ladies thing or even a mother/daughter thing, but Dad and I are changing all that. I made reservations to have high tea with Dad @the_bread_box yesterday lunch. Since Dad doesn't eat much, I asked if we could share one portion and there were no issues. It's $25 per portion, and we paid for an extra tea. Tanya made sure our teacups were full of hot water. I ordered at the counter for a 2-egg Breakfast for Dad and I to share. There were 4 strips of super crispy bacon. Just enough food for us to enjoy. If you're looking for a reasonable place to enjoy high tea, @the_bread_box is the place to go!

I've been here twice and now and the food and coffee cake are absolutely delicious. They sell daily baked bread, and it's so adorable watxhing people coming to buy it. The music choice is always enjoyable and the decor is STUNNING. Definitely want to do a tea party here for my birthday, highly recommended if you like tea. I saw them set up for a tea party later that morning and they do it with such grace and care and you can see how much they enjoy working there. The Bread Box is a must stop if you come to the alley on bitters. So beautiful and fantastic. 20/10

Adorable cafe and bakery inside the Alley on Bitters. They offer a full range of baked goods and pastries, along with full tea service on Wednesdays through Friday 10am to 2pm which I tried. Delicious!

Would recommend 10/10 Food, Service, Atmosphere 10/10 My fiancée and I both ordered the BLAT plate for our first time, and instantly fell in love. Every piece of the meal was delicious. I feel my money was WELL SPENT!! Will definitely become some sort of regular. The service was so friendly, I only regret not getting the girls names. This place is perfect for Tea Parties. The floral arrangements inside were gorgeous. LOVE LOVE LOVE ❤️

I recently had the delightful opportunity to experience Tea for Two at the BreadBox, and it was nothing short of enchanting. Upon arrival, a table was already reserved for us, immaculately set and inviting. The crowning jewel was the three-tiered tower that boasted a selection of perfectly baked scones, delectable tea sandwiches, and luscious cakes. Every bite was a testament to their commitment to quality and taste. The ambiance of the BreadBox was the embodiment of comfort—cozy and warm, making our tea experience feel like a luxurious retreat from the outside world. Further enhancing our visit was the impeccable service. The staff was not only attentive but also anticipated our every need, ensuring our cups were never empty and our plates always filled. In summary, the BreadBox delivers a Tea Time experience that is both authentic and exquisite. Highly recommended for those who appreciate the finer things in life. Cheers to many more tea times to come!

The best place ever. We’re from Houston but come to San Antonio a lot. A place like this makes me want to move lol. I’d give anything for a location closer to me, everything they do is incredible. Best oatmeal cream pies ever! Muffins, croissants, English muffins, cake..everything is so so yummy.

Absolutely incredible. I travel a lot. Growing up, I was in the food industry and got some professional culinary training. For me, a restaurant needs a good atmosphere just as much as it needs great food. This place? Top marks across the board. First, the interior is adorable. It’s quaint, it’s comfy, and it’s decorated in a cute “tea party” atmosphere. It’s very well done. Music isn’t too much and there’s ample room for maneuvering. Not too cramped. The food was SUPERB. I had a patty melt with grilled onions and fries, and my better half had a southwest turkey sandwich. Both of them were extremely well executed, plated beautifully, and the combo of the baked in house buns with the fresh produce was sublime. I mean it was truly, extremely good. Each meal came with a cookie, and they were top notch as well. The service was great. The waiter (chef?) who dropped off our food was attentive and very friendly. The outside patio is so comfortable for fall weather. All around, this is one of two restaurants that I’ve found in town after living here for 2+ decades that perfectly melds atmosphere, service, ingredients, and execution. This restaurant has a soul. It is a must have if you’ve never tried it. Also, get the key lime pie. You won’t be disappointed.

We did high tea, it was ok. They only had 3 teas to choose from. The bread was a little hard. And we didn't get the assortment of fruit, just grapes. The place is super cute, though. The cakes look beautiful.

The Bread Box was wonderful to work with! Their manager Kaylan was professional and on top of things, she made me feel very confident about choosing them for my wedding. There were two other bakeries I considered (Bakery Lorraine and Bird Bakery), because their products are amazing. But to be honest, they were a bit flaky (pun intended) when it came to communication and although I’ll still patronize their bakeries, I didn’t trust them with my wedding cake. But back to The Bread Box, when the cake arrived it looked Exactly like the picture I sent them. They also made a groom’s cake, researching the design to make an amazing cake. As a former professional baker finding a great tasting cake was important to me. The Bread Box makes a great tasting cake, but their frosting is also perfectly balanced. And it should be noted that despite having a dessert table, we did not have a lot of leftover cake. The price was Ridiculously low considering the quality of the product. Both cakes included 50 servings and they were each $200.
