Not fancy, but the comfort food is heavenly. The beer is cold. And the service is zippy. When I want chicken fried steak this is the best place in town.

Whats all the fuss about?. So some local buds dragged me here kicking and screaming. (I can scream just like a little girl when I want to...) claiming cold beer, good food and good times can be had for all here. Huh! We'll see about that!
Okay, well, it turns out they were right. (Man, I hate it when that happens) Anyway, Love, love, love the schooners of ice cold beer, (although I always get the small size) menu has all my favorites on it and the atmosphere is San Antonio funky, which I like. They have other things, but the fried "insert your favorite food here" is the best. Can't go wrong with that, huh?
Parking's easy, prices are on point, and if this place were closer to my house, I'd probably come here pretty often. And I'd probably do it without making a fuss. Nah, I'd still make a fuss, just to give the guys grief.
Virgin no more. So this place has been around almost as long as I've been alive, and yet had never been in thirty plus years of living in SA.
It's hard to beat the price on their lunch specials- even with a couple of Shiners thrown in (granted, I wimped out and opted for the pony instead of the schooner) it's under fifteen bucks. Chicken tacos, nachos, rings all good.

Sail in for a Schooner. Where to begin . . . years of baseball team Friday afternoon (when one of the biggest employers in town had a 4 day work week) watering hole get togethers, evening tex-mex repast, great lunches, all worth the trip down to 5 points. Since others have described the red flocked wall paper, dark, get-your-eyes-used to-the-low-light interior, old juke box with my favorite - El Paso by Marty Robbins, and a nice long bar, I will move on to the food.
First of all the nachos - really good basic bean and cheese made separately (I hate it when they pile the chips up and throw everything on top hit-or-miss); then the good basic plate of cheese enchiladas one, two, or three, your choice, with rice and beans - pretty standard. the fish and chicken fried are also main stays here. But the schooners of beer . . . . !! I once brought a spot check thermometer to check the beer temperature in a tour of the town for the coldest beer around. The bartender saw what I was doing and quietly said "31 degrees". As the pointer on the thermometer crept towards that forecast number, a small piece of ice floated off the bottom of the frosty glass that was fresh from the freezer. 31 degrees it was!!!
So my friends, if you are an aficionado of well established neighborhood restaurants/watering holes, this is the place for you. Those watching their calories, on a diet, are afraid of fried foods and paranoid of grease content, "need not apply". Remember, "all things in moderation!" Even California and New Mexico "mexican food" ,tofu and sushi have their place (just not in my mouth - just kidding).
This SA institution never disappoints. The hot plate entrees really shine, like the roast beef or fried fish. There is ample parking.
Retro to the max! 30 oz. of Ice cold beer for $4.50! Loaded nachos and a large schooner of bud light --bliss...
Looking for a heart condition. Love the food, my heart disagrees. But great atmosphere, good food, good prices. Enjoy!
Otra Schooner!. MK's is the bomb and anyone from SA knows look no further for a huge 32 oz Schooner of delicious brew with your diner style food. Burgers are top notch, the fish is awesome, and nothing completes a stop into MK like a nice schooner of Shiner, which is also reasonably priced.
Great place to have a beer or a 30 ounce schooner I should say. I love the chicken fried steak. Good place to relax and enjoy the San Antonio enviroment.
My fish was pretty good, nothing special. Definitely a bargain; a huge lunch special for just over $5. Played good music inside as part of a generally friendly and laid back atmosphere. Great variety on the menu.
My parents used to come here for their date nights when they were youngins. My husband and I took them here and it was our first time. Loved the food and service. The dining room is a bit dark but it sets a comfortable atmosphere. Our waitress was extremely friendly and made sure we were well taken care of. All our meals tasted delicious. Will definitely be coming back again.
We came for lunch, wife and I had the chicken fried steak and son had a burger. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious. I had onion rings and the wife had fries, both were fresh as well. We’ve been here many times and enjoy every visit.

As always Chicken Fried Steak is out of this world delicious!!! Comfort food.
Burger was spicy, savory good. First time I had it. Lettuce, tomato, pickles. Mustard and mayo. Scrumptious.
Asked to have fries heated. I like my food hot. For me, no biggie that I had to ask. Staff brought back my fries piping hot. Were so very good. Put ketchup and tabasco. Delicious!!!
Overall, the entire staff was very efficient during the early dinner time. Very impressive.

MK Davis is an old school bar that happens to serve great food. One of my favorites is the 3 peice fried chicken. The fried chicken is made fresh, so order a schooner, enjoy the cold the beer, and your dinner will arrive in 20 minutes. Hot, fresh, and delicious, you won't regret it. Or order the halibut or cod again the meal will be hot, fresh and delicious. Or maybe the nachos, the chips will be crisp, beans will be delicious, and the jalapeños will kick in the heat. Or a hamburger or filet ala tampiquena, it's all delicious. Oh, and the beer in the schooners will be ice cold. Yes, you'll have to wait outside. Yes, it may be hot outside, but it's part of the ambiance. I've been coming here since 1981 when we could buy beer at 18. I was sent there by my HS coach, who told us to put on some weight. Since then it's been a family staple. It's an event to go and eat at MK Davis. Make MK Davis a part of your family's tradition. Toast family members who are no longer with you. Go enjoy, eat well and have a great time..

San Anto legend near 5 points. One of two places that I know of that has OG Crispy Dogs! The best chicken fried steak in town. Expect to wait , unless you're solo. Then bar seating is a great option. Had a wonderful meal, the place was packed inside as well as outside. I did get seated immediately, since I was alone. The only reason I gave 1 star for atmosphere, ( which really wasn't the restaurant's doing) is because on the table right on the other side of my bar seating, was a family. This family had a 2-3 year old girl that screamed and cried super loud , continually throughout the course of my dinner. Which made it hard to really enjoy my meal. All the adults at that table failed to be sensitive to the other diners. Why , do children get a pass in public for being so obnoxious? I felt like screaming and loudly crying back at her, but as an an adult behaving in the same manner as this tiny succubus, would probably be asked to leave. I wish the manager would have managed the situation. Other patrons in my area were just as perturbed. So I rushed through the meal instead of really enjoying all the delicious care that went into making it. I will definitely return.
Me and my mom got the Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes, It was really good and the atmosphere was nice. They sell seafood, country food and Mexican food. The waitress was really nice and friendly the food came out fast and was hot. I would definitely visit again and recommend to others.
We went last night for dinner for my husband’s birthday. The food was really good. Was it my favorite place in the world, maybe not but it definitely had great flavor and everything was fresh. We had to to wait over 2 hours to be seated. We did have a larger party of 14 people so that is understandable. Still a solid local place that’s been here since the 50’s. I would go back again and definitely recommend giving this place a try. We had the cod 2 piece and the chicken fried steak for under $40. Everyone else loved the food too. Only recommendation is to have reservations available. I feel that would definitely help with larger parties.
Waitress was new and service was decent. The chicken fried chicken was very good. Great flavor. The chicken fried steak comes in 2nd. Still a good flavor but the chicken was better. Chips and salsa was OK. The salsa a bit watery. Chili cheese fries were very good but not a huge serving for 8.99. Could have been bigger! Come on guys! I get the higher prices but it's a potato! Son had shrimp and loves shrimp but was not impressed. Came cause site said 15.99 ribeye. Got here and it's 23.99. So prices are different than site. Chicken fried steak and chicken were 13.99 so good price for amount of food.
Haven’t been here in over 20 years! It is still great! Food, service and atmosphere and great! I recommend the chicken fried steak and onion rings.

This is always a great place for comfort food and childhood memories...great fried chicken...not salty like most...always order the crispy dogs... That's the childhood memories... 3 to an order so get ready for the fight lolol...and cold cold wait for it cold beer in giant schooners...yuumm
UPDATE... Never disappointed. We decided to try a few appetizers and use that as our lunch. The onion rings thin sliced onions light batter yum. The super nachos. I remember them being better we both decided it was the picadillo meat that we didn't like. I think the last time I had these they were with a fajita beef meat ..much better call if you get the choice. Then we split a fish burger that was great. Not a high end choice, but we liked it.... And of course we had to have the crispy dogs. I lucked out eating lunch with a lightweight, so they got one and I got two. I think that's actually always my favorite go to. Honestly next time I think I'm just going to order that...ok...maybe two orders... But I swear ill shareLOL.
UPDATE...Still the place. Casual. Mary was fantastic! Crispy dogs are the best!
UPDATE.. I will never be able to eat here and not start with the crispy dogs. Had the fried chicken, its a 20 minute wait so DONT be in a hurry, but well worth the wait! This chicken is as close to my mom's as I've had. And if you can get one of their famous giant ice cold scooners of beer do it!
It's one of the best spots in the San Antonio Downtown area! They have been around for a long time and never disappoint! Food is excellent! And the beer is always cold! Must try spot!
This feels like your aunt’s restaurant every time you come. You are family here. All are welcome. The food sticks to your gut and you WILL NOT leave hungry. The beer is the absolute coldest around. It’s a tradition that my wife who’s a school teacher finally gets to have lunch with me starts summer with a spicy hot steak and a schooner. She always says, “NOW IT’S SUMMER”. You can see the joy in her eyes. Come by, be nice, try the….. it’s all good!

The server was great here. She was very nice and helped us being our 1st time here. I got the chicken fried steak and the homie got a chicken sandwich. The onion rings are OFF THA CHAIN!!! I'd recommend them

1st time back in over 16 years and nothing has changed...and that's alright. It's definitely a throwback atmosphere with all the neon beer signs glistening off the shiny, dark wood tables and decor. All the staff is friendly and courteous to everyone. Prices are definitely reasonable and might actually be the same as 16 years ago? I ordered the DINNER sized chicken fried steak that came with a warning from the waitress, and although it was big, it definitely wasn't going home with me. The white cream gravy was just your standard cream gravy and nothing to write home to mom about. What was interesting was the breading. Can't say what makes it different, but it just is. I'm still not sure in a good or bad way...🤔 What I did like, was that IT WASN'T GREASY AT ALL! Really loved that, and the meatiness of the steak itself. No dried up thin steak shrinking back from the edge of the crust, this was end to end tender, juicy meat! The fries were no biggie either. I will definitely be back to try out more of their varied menu filled with homestyle favorites. My hunt for the elusive yellow gravy continues.....💛
