Wow! First time here. Authentic and delicious hole-in-the-wall MEXICAN food place!! Service was friendly and prompt. I had a beef/cheese chili rellenos; eggy coating and a great red sauce. Beans are lard-free but still tasty! The corn tortillas were the bomb!! Definitely will return!

My husband and I were looking for the best menudo in town and let me tell ya, this is it!!!!! The freshest ingredients, powerful flavor that will have your tastebuds dancing. I swear the hominy in the menudo is not from a can and these corn tortillas are not made from the maseca brand, I feel like they made it as our ancestors did. We have our hearts happy along with satisfied stomachs! This has definitely become our to go spot ♡

We weren’t initially impressed with the starter salsa and chips. Salsa was too runny for our typical salsa. The chips seemed store bought. However, once our breakfast arrived, our opinions changed! Portion sizes were large. Food quality was great. All of our meals tasted great. I especially liked their breakfast papas. The decor of the place added to the authenticity of our culture. Honestly speaking, I hadn’t had a homemade corn tortilla this great tasting in a very VERY long time!

Mama's kitchen was amazing, small place but great food and attentive service all around. Went in on a Saturday morning and had the Chicharrón Ranchero plate. It came with homemade tortillas, beans and potatoes, felt just like being at my mom's house. My wife enjoyed the chilaquiles with eggs so we will definitely be back. To clarify, this place is very authentically and traditionally Mexican, no Tex-Mex here.

So happy to have randomly came in because it has become the go-to place for inexpensive yet authentic Mexican dishes in the area. Personal favorites are- the enfrijoladas (bean enchiladas), taco de hígado encebollado (liver and onions taco), and the chilaquil tejano taco (kind of like a migas taco). The server who's always there is an incredibly friendly guy who has such warmth to him, he makes you feel at home. Prices are reasonable and the interior is cute and simple. It's easy to try new things every time! Fan for life.

I'm still trying different items on the menu and they all are delicious! Coffee is pretty good too. Parking is around back so be ready to use blinker off the main street.

I love finding little hidden gems like this one. Everything was great! I had the Holiday tamale special. 3 tamales (1 red, 1 green, 1 rajas c/queso) smothered in a cream sauce. Finally, some San Antonio tamales that I actually like! Out server, Rocio, did a wonderful job letting us know about the seasonal plates and made some excellent recommendations. Thank you, Rocio!

Tried this little local taco shop on a recommendation from a neighborhood local. The place was charming and the staff friendly. When I ordered Caldo de Res they told me it would be about 20 minutes, but they set me up at a table with a cup of coffee while I waited. I ordered Carne Guisada which was great. Also, something I'd never seen before, a taco Acorazado or 'armored' taco. I expected it to come out looking like an Armadillo, but it was just a carne guisada open faced on two corn tortillas. My order was to go, and I like how they wrapped everything in plastic wrap to avoid spills and keep fresh. Great place! Next time I'll dine in.

HOMEMADE, AUTHENTIC MADE FROM SCRATCH! The Menudo and the chilaquiles rojos are a must and there are many more menu items to try. Homemade corn and flour tortillas that are deliciously warm and soft. The service is incredible, the staff is constantly checking on you. The place is nice and cozy. San Antonio has a hidden jewel in this place if you truly want authentic food this is the place, just like home!

It's a cute place with delightful homestyle Mexican food. I got the huevos rancheros with homemade corn tortillas. The only thing I would have liked is the salsa to be a bit spicy.

Practically a whistle stop on the old San Pedro X Hildebrand tracks, Mama's Cocina is near enough to the railroad crossing to qualify as a railway depot. A small restaurant of only 3 or 4 slanted parking spots in front (more in back) off the busy Hildebrand road and 12 tables or so inside, the place had a comfy cozy air about it as we were ushered in the held open door by one jovial restaurant docent Hans who, as the cafe "conductor", greeted, gabbed with, served and cashiered the customers. Space heater's were scattered about the place in red glowing unison to remove the chill on this cold and rainy afternoon. While we warmed up a bit and gazed at the menu, Hans brought us a small cup of complimentary soup that conveyed a slightly tomatoey broth and was brimming with small, orecchiette sized pasta shells. Campbell's could not have made a better slice-of-life commercial if it had been a homey scene with Mom serving hot soup to her frozen, snow shedding children. The soup was a steaming, ruddy hued elixir that warmed both our stomachs and our hearts in gratitude for such thoughtfulness. Hans explained that all the ingredients used in the restaurant were prepared in house except for the canned pineapple. O.K. I'll bite. Why was that? The answer was just a simple matter of cost versus frequency of use. That conundrum solved I could now concentrate on my plate of three splendid looking enchiladas with gravy, rice and beans. These bellwether corn tubes were well stuffed with ground beef and the gravy had a perfectly satisfying savory taste. M-m-m m-m-m good! (The Campbell's reference is still mindfully fresh). Rice and beans and crispy taco were as homemade flavorful as one would have presupposed. Homemade corn tortillas supplied upon request were a toothsome cut above. It might have been something about the almost burnt orange painted room (I'm a UT grad), Hans's welcoming manner or the good food we hungrily consumed that made me order some breakfast tacos to go for later consumption knowing without tasting them that they were going to be good . . . even re-heated. And knowing that my wife was feeling a little under the weather, Hans wrapped up a generous portion of the soup she loved to-go gratis! All the aforementioned is definitely enough to have me whistling Mama's Cocina praises as the little restaurant that could. It was one of those surprising and special eating experiences that happen ruefully only once in a blue moon basis whether it is in an expensive restaurant with haute cuisine or by the tracks with simple homemade with heart food.

It's unfortunate I can only give 5 stars because I'd give double if I could. Excellent portions and cost are overshadowed by the amazing flavor and service! Dont blink driving by because you may miss this hidden gem. I will always try to make a stop here when in San Antonio

I find this place on Google maps when I was looking for chilaquiles. I find out that they have the best chilaquiles I have ate in the US. They are a local business with an excellent customer service, i will say the best of San Antonio. It is affordable, it is worth every penny. I will definitely recommend it, the tacos de asada their Tamarindo water everything was good. I also tried a taco of nopales with eggs it was very good. If you go to San Antonio you must try it, authentic Mexican food, the best I can say.

Our go-to breakfast/lunch taco restaurant. Friendly service, and great food. The pastor tacos are some of the best around! My wife loves the bean and cheese tacos.
