After trying several Chinese restaurants in the area, I was overjoyed finding Hong Kong Island. Generous portions, very friendly owners, and chow mein and fried rice that goes down so easily. I usually have take out at least once a week, and all the utensils and sauces needed with napkins is included. I have hosted several groups over the past year, and the attendees all agreed the food tasted very good. For the price, good service, and friendly atmosphere, you can not go wrong choosing Hong Kong Island.
I decided to drop by here since it was pretty close to where I live. It was so good, I went here two nights in a row. Their hot and sour soup, despite being rather different from what most people would consider to be "traditional", is some of the best I've ever had. I could make a meal just with that alone. Their Mongolian beef seems to be everyone's favorite dish, and with good reason; it is delicious. They also have dinner specials that are quite affordable, ensuring this place will be a future regular for me.
Edit: After making a couple more trips here, it seems like the quality varies quite heavily depending on the dish you get. The kung-pao was a bit disappointing. Stick to the Mongolian beef.
Hidden Jewel. Sorry that there aren't any pictures of what we ate. We ate everything so fast that we forgot to take pictures. We ordered the Chicken with Rice Noodles and the Orange Chicken with fried rice. We live in the area, but had never made it into that restaurant. SO sorry now that we haven't. We were worried that the food would not be fresh because we got there about 30 minutes before closing, but after we ordered, we could hear the chef using the tools of the trade in the kitchen and not long after, we got this great looking fresh and delicious food. The lady waiting on us was super friendly and wanted to make sure that we were happy with the food. We told her that everything was perfect. We had enough leftovers for another meal. They were very generous with their portions. My husband said we'll definitely go back unless we die tomorrow (his exact words). Gotta get the word out!
Why is this place empty?. Fantastic food. One of the best egg drop soups I've ever had. Can't wait to go back!
Best Chinese food I ever had... The rice to die for... I would go for just the fried rice alone
THEIR FRIED RICE. I looked up this place and noticed it had fantabulous reviews so when I was in the area, of course I HAD to try it! It was alarming since there was NO ONE at the restaurant when I went! You can notice that they're starting slow, but hopefully business picks up for them soon! The owners are nice and I actually heard them make my food and it was amazing when it came out! Their fried rice was FANTASTIC! The food was well portioned and priced and it left me full but not bloated like most heavily condiment-ed Chinese food make ya feel.

Quality food, cheap prices. If you are a fan of Chinese food then look no further than Hong Kong Island. This restaurant opened about 4 months ago and is owned and managed by a husband and wife team and they are both from Hong Kong. The husband cooks and the wife waits tables and is the cashier! I had the Mongolian Beef & Egg Roll..huge portions..I couldn't even finish my plate. Great food, great people..you need to try their food! What a pleasant surprise. If you want some great food at cheap prices, come to Hong Kong island
Nice. I went there for the first time today. It's in a small corner so it can be hard to see however the food and service were very good and hope this place keeps getting more business and survives.
Plesantly surprised. Ordered mongolian beef and it was just the way I like it. Not too saucy. Vegetables were crispy. All around fresh and flavorful.
This place is amazing. Food is made to order and fresh. This isn’t your normal Chinese food restaurant because of how good their food is. The fresh crunch of the green onions in the fried rice...quality! Superb food with great service. They also have a dinner for 2 for $21. 👍
So good! I got their orange chicken (which is less sweet and more spicy) and will definitely be going back to get it again in the future. Yum.
Chase and Shirley are so sweet! They were born and raised in Hong Kong, so mind you this food is authentic Chinese food! NOT American chinese! I always get either the beef/chicken and broccoli or the general chicken ! They also give discounts to walmart employees which is super awesome.
Everything was freshly prepared, loved everything we ordered, grabbed a menu for future togo order.
Rice is absolutely amazing. This was just the rice the meal came with, not one that has meat in it. Can't wait to go back and try something else. I had the lemon chicken and the sauce is a great balance of sweetness to the sour lemon flavor and it's a great gel consistency that's so much better than watery lemon sauce you get at some places. My husband had, I think, General Chicken and he too loved it. We will most definitely be returning.
Dude. This place is awesome. Everything is super fresh, unlike Chinese food at a mall. The fried rice here is amazing. I don't usually eat fried rice, but these guys got it so right. It's small and is run by a husband and wife which is awesome. It really feels like they can take care of their customers. I take my girlfriend here all the time and she's loves it too. And the food, MY GOD THE FOOD! It's so GOOD! The portions are amazing for the price. I honestly say everyone who likes eating Chinese food needs to eat here.

I've been here a couple times and I am always impressed. The food is deliciously prepared and there are a variety of options. There are more Americanized dishes as well as authentic ones. I just finished chicken wings with black bean sauce. Simply amazing. The service is also top quality and they are very sweet. I will continue to come here again and again!
My favorite Chinese restaurant in San Antonio. The owners are friendly, service is fast, food's made to order (rather than being reheated or sitting around in a warmer), the place is very clean, and everything's reasonably priced. The fried rice is the best I've ever had. Seriously, try the fried rice. It's fantastic, the one I use as the standard when I'm having the same dish elsewhere, and none of the others measure up. Everything else I've tried is also good. Never had anything but positive experiences at Hong Kong Island, and I recommend it to everyone who mentions anything about going out for Chinese food.
Fantastic food. Not your typical "Chinese" food and the owner is proud of that. It is Hong Kong style. The Golden Rangoon was great as well as the sweet and sour sauce it came with. Stop by and give them a try. The entire family really enjoyed the food and the service.
Very delicious food in generous proportions! My first time in going there and I have been in search for good Chinese food and I'm happy to say that the search is over! The staff are very friendly. Proactive and quick in taking care of our needs. They made my birthday dinner very special and were very kind to us and our Son.
