This tiny restaurant is, seriously, one of the best reasons to visit San Clemente.
Two words - 'shell-free Cioppino'. OH MY WORD, filled with seafood, shellfish, veggies, and spices. It was so delicious I almost wished that I had ordered a bowl instead of a cup. But I'm glad I did because then I had room for the Seafood Deviled Eggs. Three eggs, six halves each filled with a spiced standard yolk mixture and topped with lobster claw meat, flaked crab, or large salad shrimp - so good!
Dan, the owner, is as nice as can be. Genuine and kind. There are a few tables to enjoy the delicious food. Located in Old Downtown San Clemente, the Lobster Shack is definitely worth the drive if you're in Orange County, CA.
I ate half my meal at the restaurant and then drove to the beach to enjoy the rest with my Arnold Palmer. Awesome afternoon š
What a great place! Wow! The food was perfect. Exactly what I expected. Dan was so nice and accommodating . A plus for service! The lobster roll was amazing! So much meat! Got the lobster š¦ mac n cheese too. But wow tried his custom 50/50 lobster bisque and chowder. You absolutely have to try it. So good.
BTW park in the old town san clemente . shops google shows it in the alley it isnāt. Its in the middle

Best lobster roll, lobster Mac n cheese, and chowder lobster bisque combo soup I have ever had! The owner is so friendly and accommodating - we had a party of 7 and he brought out an extra table and chairs for us to use even after he was closed. I really appreciated his kindness and was so glad we got to try the food. We will definitely be back!
AMAZING! What a cute spot and delicious food! I enjoyed a fully packed out, fresh, flavorful lobster roll which came with tasty baked beans and cole slaw!!! I cannot say enough about how delicious each and every bite was! And if youāre in the mood for a hearty bisque, ask for their 50/50! You wonāt regret it! Then finally, as I always love to feel welcomed where I go, I have to say, there is an adorable, lively and happy couple that owns it and will share great big smiles and great vibes with you!!! Best lobster sandwiches in town! My husband got the, ālobster grilled cheese,ā and I got the ālobster roll with coleslaw and beans!ā The bread was cooked to perfection while also having a nice crunch. And the lobster was tender and juicy while also being extremely fresh! We would definitely recommend and we will definitely be returning. The restaurant is located in a nice little strip mall type thing with other restaurants and shops! The area doesnāt look like much but it was INCREDIBLE!!!
Delicious lobster rolls! I ordered the Trio for 2, which included one lobster roll, one crab roll and one shrimp roll. They were all delicious and tasted fresh, but my favorite one was definitely the lobster roll. The bread was fluffy and complimented the meat perfectly. They were filling as well.
The staff was friendly and fast with orders. They have outdoor seating only. I will definitely be back for more.
Got the trio for 2 to go. The rolls were good and they looked pretty however not worth in my opinion the price. However it is san clemente and lobster is never cheap. The lobster bisque was eh wont get it again. The bleu cole slaw was also just ok but not worth going out if my way for. If i am in the area and really want lobster on the go I may stop there.
This place is a gem! Had an amazing clam chowder bowl with the āsecret sauceā. Quenching our thirst with an ice cold Arnold Palmer. The owner is very pleasant and passionate about his cuisine. We will definitely come back for that lobster roll and divine bread bowl.
I am so glad we found this sweet little place! The people who work here are so kind. We tried the shrimp roll, lobster roll, lobster bisque, clam chowder, beans, and grilled cheese. It was all very good!! I came here ready for a lobster roll but for me, the crab roll was the star! The bisque is very good too. The toasted brioche is really exceptional. We thoroughly enjoyed this little gem! Canāt wait to return next time we are in town
Lobster Mac and cheese with extra lobster. The owner (I think) was super nice and accommodating. Lobster was plentiful and the Mac and cheese flavour was great.
Two things knocking this down from 5 starsā¦
1. The cheese sauce needs to be thicker
2. For the price the portion needs to be far bigger. Not expecting more lobster, but itās a small cup not even filled to the top. Also if you are going to eat this for a meal you will be sorely mistaken as the small portion size just makes you hungrier.
Hope you take the feedback, itās a great product, just needs these two tweaks to make it outstanding.
No doubt foods are yummy- lobster rolls, lobster bisque, and the beans! But they are quite pricey for how small the portions are and no true dine in sevices (have to sit at the table right next to parking).
Small parking lot to share with other stores; it is not easy to find a spot in the lot but street parkings were not too difficult.
We will still come to support local business occasionally when we are in the area.
Awesome owners, super friendly... came out and talked to us made sure we actually enjoyed the food they just made. Could really tell they are proud of what they do and rightly so.
My chick and I (Both of us are from Cape Cod, Mass. The Home of lobster Rolls) both got the lobster roll and shared the clam cowder.
The roll, was awesome... I'm use to a little more mayo, but I think it lasted maybe 2 mins.
The chowder was on par or better than Capt Parkers Pub in West Yarmouth, MA.
We both will definitely be back.
Kim & Dan are the kindest people and their food is out of this world! Everything we had was delicious. We ordered the lobster roll with cole slaw & baked beans with a side of lobster bisque and cioppino soup. They took the time to talk with us about the surrounding area, which was really nice!
We are driving down PCH doing a SoCal vacation, and getting a lobster roll was on my trip bucket list. The Lobster Shack was absolutely amazing - the roll was chock full of lobster, the bread perfectly toasted - and pro-tip grab a spicy lobster sauce and a lobster bisque to dunk the bread!!
You know the place is good when you get a shirt to commemorate - If youāre anywhere near San Clemente, The Lobster Shack is a must.
A hidden gem! The lobster roll was amazing, fresh and flavorful, the coleslaw with a blue cheese has the right balance of sour and tingly. Welcoming owners, feels authentic and great after a rendezvous with the ocean.
We got lobster rolls and lobster bisque. It was all to die for. The lemonade was great too. The service was fantastic. Wish we were local so we could go all the time!
The lobster roll is amazing, I highly recommend it. The guy running this place really chill and gives out salt water taffy. Definitely check it out if you're in the area!
