We came here for an anniversary brunch and were here right when they opened. First thing we noticed is how beautiful the place is. The colors and decor are so fun and spirited, reminding me of Dia de los Muertos celebrations.
Outside a sign proclaimed that they were voted best Margarita, so ofcourse I had to try it. It was good and quite strong. We started with the Cucumber appetizer, with chili and a cilantro lime sauce. Yummy and light. I had the Carnitas Stack from the brunch menu and my wife tried the potato tacos. Both were wonderful and it was so nice that they had a vegetarian meal that dud not include soy or mushrooms! Lastly the guacamole was some of the best my wife has had.

We arrived from out of town. Locals told us to go to the Barrio. Wow, not disappointed. Fresh ingredients. We were there for happy hour. Drinks were good. The fish and pork tacos were delicious! The nachoes had whole food ingrediates, not cheap fillers and to many chips. The waitress was on the spot too!
Just simply the best Mexican food experience in a long time! Sadly, we just missed happy hour so we spent $$$, but the food and margaritas were super...most notably the Blueberry Jalapeño margarita and steak/chile relleno tacos. Planning on catching a happy hour soon!

Celebrated my birthday last month at Barrio Star...I have eaten at a number of Mexican restaurants, but the food here was on another level altogether...all 5 of us loved our food!! The waitress was delightful, and the ambiance was great! Can't wait to come back! We raved about it for days!! :-)

Our server Kris was awesome! Very on top of various bills in a big group. Great options for gluten free and vegetarian, clearly marked, and for both at the same time which is rare. Soy chorizo and potato tacos were very nice. $5 tacos before 5pm was awesome, and the different margaritas were great
Barrio Star was a great experience. The food was fantastic, delicious and big portions. Try the best birria tacos in San Diego. They were excellent.
Great food, wonderful atmosphere, excellent service. The tacos barria were incredible! For drinks we had a flight of margaritas including a blackberry jalapeño that was amazing. For non-alcohol I ordered a strawberry lemonade that was made with fresh strawberries and beautifully presented. Barrio Star is my new local favorite!
I was looking for a healthy meal, and both the pepinos and the Mexican salad were filling and delicious. The salad had lots of lime juice in it, and the pepinos were loaded with flavor and quite delicious.
The food and ambiance was very enjoyable. I ordered the Tortilla Soup with Chicken and my partner has the Shrimp Tacos. Everything was timely and overall delicious.
However, when we got the bill, there was a 4% surcharge. Unfortunately, will not be returning until they adjust their prices to accurately reflect the cost of the food.
I love the margarita flight! Definitely try the blackberry jalapeno, that's my favorite. I also ordered the taco trio with spicy chicken, steak and salmon. All were tasty but i think I liked the chicken the best. Great outdoor and open air seating perfect for nice days but it is a little on the pricy side.
Excellent location, super friendly service, and very decent food! The restaurant also has outdoor seating and allows you to dine with your dog, which is a great convenience.
We felt like a healthy bite, so we ordered a couple of their bowls - Brazilian and the house special - with tofu as a substitute. This works out as a good vegan option.
The server happily accommodated us with some water for the puppy, and everyone was happy.
Very nice beer choices as well!
Next time we'll come for a full course meal.
We had a great brunch experience at Barrio Star. The service was fast and, as you can see, food was well presented and tasty. The restaurant was well presented and very colorful, and they have giant roll up windows which allows you to enjoy the sunny weather. You can also sit outside, if you prefer.
The only negative is that for Mexican food it was slightly on the expensive side. Our check came to about $60 before a tip. My two chicken taco plate cost about $15, which is for sure on the high end even when compared to popular taco joints like City Tacos.
This place was so good! We all shared appetizers as small plates and they were delicious; especially the corn. There was also a large selection of tequilas and they were very moderately priced. The vibe here is great and I would love to come back.
The food here is really good and the service was pretty good too. Loved the west coast tacos but a lot of the margaritas had jalapenos in them. I'm not the biggest fan of a salty or spicy drink, I prefer sweet. I'm sure I could have asked for a regular margarita...
Taco mix plate was delicious Handmade tortillas were well made and impressed me as someone who usually dines south of the border. Wait time was unfortunately a little sluggish during the lunch time period, but take nothing away from the incredible food.
The tacos were really really good. 5 dollars each on taco tuesday.... above average. However for the area, it was good enough and they closed late. The steak taco was my favorite. I got another. Corn was burnt. Nachos are good. Margarita did more for my friend than me.
