Reviews Hinotez

They have a lot of small items so it's a great place to go get a bunch of different things to try and split. They have some average things, like chicken, and some more adventurous things, like chicken heart. And if you don't like it, it's not an entire entree. Service was a bit slow the night I went, but I'd go again.

S and I have known about Hinotez, the sister restaurant to Yakyudori Yakitori, for quite some time but never took the time to check it out, mostly because we’ve heard that it isn’t as good. However, recently one of our friends wanted some late-night-ish (~10pm) Japanese food, and Yakyudori was really crowded and could not seat our group of six. The hostess directed us to Hinotez, and we thought well, might as well go try it out.

Interesting Breakfast. You don't get much chance to try a Japanese breakfast, so after reading some reviews on it. I was really excited to try their breakfast. It's really a fulfilling breakfast, that with $3 Basic Breakfast you get a miso soup, rice, tofu and some vegi and a small pack of seaweed, plus you could get refill for the soup and rice. I added the 3 minute egg and fried chicken, and altogether were a great breakfast to start off the day.
The 3 minute egg cooked just well that the egg flows smoothly into your mouth, and with the yummy broth, it was perfect to eat with the rice or alone.
My friend ordered the breakfast and added the mini grilled salmon. It was not "mini" at all, it was quite a big piece compare to our expectation. The salmon and fried chicken were just average.
However, compare to the normal pancakes, bacon and egg, it is definitely worth a try for a Japanese style breakfast.

Overall we enjoyed our food. The two sides and basic set were a little on the light side for a meal, but I don’t like to have heavy breakfast meals. At about $20 for the both of us, this was a great deal. I also enjoyed the bento boxes and would definitely come back to pick up more bentos and to enjoy the breakfast meals. Currently breakfast is served everyday from 7am-11:30am.

All time favorite place to get yakitori. Ive been to Japan and yakitori from Yakyudori and Hinotez are comparably good. I recommend beef and pork, with or without sauce.

The sushi and ramen is rlly good here ! They also have a ton of appetizers, everything I’ve tried was really good so far. My waitress recommended this lychee cocktail and I was not disappointed, I will definitely order it again next time :)

Hinotez is a great spot for small plates and sharables. The yakitori is top notch and every beer on the menu is draft. A great izakaya.

Good food, fast service, pretty good value for Japanese food, tablet order so my antisocial a** don't have to talk to people much Ordered the liver skewers, curry with pork cutlet and egg, and karaage. Liver skewers were nice and smokey, one piece was a bit under done tho but you can order them well-done if you wanna be sure. Karaage was average, from flavoring to coating, not amazing but not bad. Curry was chunky which is nice compared to some other places, the portion was pretty big, could use some more flavor tho. The egg while tasting good, was small, like eggs from Costco small. The cutlet on the other hand was hefty, nice and thick, was a bit too well-done for my taste but it's pork so you would want to be on the safer side. Ok don't order the tempura shrimp, hella flaccid.

I… LOVE… THIS… RESTAURANT! This is likely the best Izakaya (Japanese Bar Restaurant/Snack) in San Diego. They have an excellent electronic ordering system (just like in Japan), and all the food - ALL THE FOOD - is simply delicious. I would make this a destination restaurant, and will definitely be coming back. Don’t miss this place - you will not be sorry.

Hinotez is an awesome Japanese restaurant on the eastern side of Kearny Mesa near the 163. They have a huge selection of yakitori, ramen, and rice dishes. I really like their fried gyoza, which they serve with a nice mustard. The spicy miso ramen is great too. They serve pitchers and large beers as well. They even have an interesting tempura selection, including mixed vegetables, sweet potato, and avocado. I highly recommend it! Just try to come later at night after the dinner rush—wait times can stretch to around an hour if you come at 5 or 6.

The yakitori items are delicious! We ordered pork shiso, pork belly, and scallop, they are all amazing, grilled to just right. We also ordered a wasabi shio maze soba, it's our first time trying it out and it turn out to be also delicious - a simple dry noodles with soy sauce and abit of the wasabi tang, we love it! Will definitely come back !

Parking is easy. Customer service is great. Yakitori is good but the one with salt is chewy and not flavorful. Overall it was a good unique experience eating at the Japanese-style short-legged dinner table.

Every dish was either beyond or or average. The vibe is great- very Japanese. We loved the fried chicken cartilage and chicken gizzards the most. Very amazing Japanese izakaya and we’re so glad we found this place. Will definitely visit again!

Decent Izakaya, noodles, and sushi that you ordered through a tablet at the table. Everything was good; however, the sushi rice in our chirashi don was a little dry.

It's close to convoy but not on convoy Street and a good place to get some yakitori. Their specialty is yakitori and that is the only thing I go for. My favorite is the chicken liver which sells out quick if you go late for dinner (say after 8pm). Then other favorites are the meatballs, scallops, bacon and asparagus. Among appetizers my favorite is the fried cartilage. Cocktails are alright . You have to order the food on the touchpad screens on each table and only the drinks are ordered with the waiter/ waitress. The tempura, ramen, udon and sushi etc. can be avoided as it's not the best here. Highly recommend for yakitori.
