Great food! Drinks are amazing and the deserts are phenomenal. Service and ambiance is great. We went on a weekday, so there was no one there.

This was our first time at Tahona. Happy Hour at the bar turned into 4 hours of tantalizing flavors and beautiful created drinks of Mezcal(s) which paired deliciously with the appetizers!! We moved from our table at the bar to the main bar. The bartender, Gem, was captivating as he prepared different libations! There is a Speakeasy (Oculto 477) next to the bar and we couldn't sneak in if we tried - reservations are month out! Salud, Tahona Bar, we will be back!!

Went here as part of a bachelorette celebration for my friend. She is a big fan of mezcal and tequila and this place blew us away! The place is very cute but it’s the food and service that made this an incredible experience. Our group was on the smaller end 5 total. We ordered the mezcalier’s flight and the Mexican states flight along with the mezcal margarita, pasion de mais, and guavasita cocktails. For food we ordered the seasonal guacamole, corn croquetas, tempura squash blossom, tetela mole flight, the rabbit pastor taco, camarones taco, and green goodness taco. It’s not an exaggeration to say I loved everything (I didn’t get to try the rabbit pastor taco) my personal favorites were the squash blossom and the seasonal guacamole. I personally got the mezcalier flight and the 3rd mezcal, Pasíon Ancestral was divine. I also had the guavasita which was so refreshing after the flight but I got to try the Pasion de Mais and I would have ordered another had we not had more plans. Finally the service that Zach gave us was just above and beyond. He was serving a lot of tables and yet we never felt neglected, he was a joy to talk to and his enthusiasm was very contagious. He really made the day that much more incredible. Because as many of us can attest to a great meal can be ruined by bad or mediocre service. So great service makes great food FANTASTIC!

Highest commendations to chef Adrian (sp?) and host Zach! They elevated a fantastic flight of mezcal and tacos beyond all expectations of hospitality, down to the last detail. Perfect tortillas, daily-sourced ahi, unique mezcal - all expertly balanced for a beautiful dining experience!

Delicious Mexican cuisine prepared with originality and finesse. The guacamole was light and delicate with nice citrus accents. The trio of moles was a fun dish, with three very different preparations of mole served on a chewy masa cake stuffed with potato. This dish is great for sharing. The tacos were flavorful with herbs and spices that complemented the meat in the taco. Good margaritas and friendly, outgoing service.

The best experience I've ever had at a cocktail bar!! We sat at the bar and just watching the staff make the drinks was an experience itself. The bar tender Mitch is awesome! All the staff was very friendly and went out of their way multiple times to make sure we had everything that we wanted. I will recommend this spot to anyone that is coming to San Diego.

The hostess didn't seem like much of a "people person" but everything else was great. The food was surprisingly filling for 3 tacos. We did have sopecitos as an appetizer and tried 4 different cocktails, all of which were great. I've been to the Tahona in Mexico so I mixed expectations for this, but overall I was impressed.

Went here for some tapas and drinks with friends during lunch. The place had several tables outside and the weather was great. We were received by a really nice individual who took us to the bar to order our drinks. The selection was broad and variable. The bartender helped us with our selection based on our taste. She even recommended tequilas that we could buy later on. Have to say the drinks were spot on. Amazing and refreshing which is what we wanted as it was a hot day. We order some food (don’t remember the name of the plate now), which was tasty, well prepared, fulfilling and it went really well with the drinks. I would definitely go back to this place. Highly recommended!

A higher-end experience than some of the other Mexican restaurants in Old Town, so don’t expect the long menus and prices you see at other spots. The menu, while small, is curated very well and allows the chefs to focus on the quality and taste of each dish. However, this may not be what everyone is looking for, especially in Old Town. Just be aware! The food was delicious and came out at a good pace. We had the guacamole - large portion, the corn croquetas - small portion, and some tacos. The quesobirria tacos are a MUST. Finally, drinks were tasty and VERY reasonable. Likely because they do have a hidden bar that specializes in inventive cocktails at a higher price point!

Blown away. Best Mexican food we have ever had. Zach went far and beyond what we could have hoped for. He and Adrian (the chef) came up with a bunch of dishes for us to try, paired with 7 different mezcals. Fresh, intelligent, tasty, different, bold and successful. Loved it and would be back all the time if we didn't live in Nashville.

Love the vibe of this spot! Popped in for a quick cocktail and bite while hanging out in Old Town, and this is a welcome break from the cheugy, old skool fake-Mexican tourist traps. Encyclopedic mezcal and tequila selection, creative and thoughtfully-composed cocktails, fine service, and a coherent menu. We only ordered chips and salsa, so I can’t speak to the entrees, but I plan on returning soon— the chef focuses on Oaxacan Mexican. Will be back!

This is one of the best places to get Mexican and cocktails in town! Every employee is so happy to be working there and wants to make sure you have the best experience possible! We have been a number of times and have lived our experience every time! The tacos are SO DELICIOUS. But where you really have to be careful is the churro dessert. It is amazing. You’ll be addicted immediately. And oh yeah, the cocktails are so good too and very affordable compared to places downtown. During covid, they are taking a number of precautions. They have wipes for your hand at the door. They also creatively give you an envelope for your mask while you’re eating! Very safe here!

Como se dice ‘dank sauce’? Delicious tacos, aps, and drinks! I had the watermelon cocktail and it was perfectly smooth, refreshing, and dangerously delectable. Then had shishito peppers and the queso birria tacos y pollo pastor tacos. The peppers were great and had a nice corn flake to them. The tacos were fresh, filling, and so good. Definitely coming back to try more items and check out the whiskey speakeasy.

Went for a Friday night dinner date night with my wife last night and it was tremendous. We arrived at 5:30 and sat at the bar because we didn't have a reservation. It was somewhat full when arrived and then got packed at 6. The vibe is very warm and inviting. Even in old town you can feel the authenticity oozing out at Tahona. The bartender correctly encouraged me to get the mezcal flight to taste 3 different regions for mezcal to determine which cocktail I should get first. The carnitas bao bun, mole sampler and tacos can't be missed. And the tacos pictured were so good it required two photos. Shrimp (camarone), carnitas, and quesabira (beef barbacoa) were spectacular.

I went here during the cinco de Mayo celebration weekend. And I’m so happy I found it! Mezcal is my favorite liquor and they had so many drink options. We ordered 4 total, I can’t remember the names 😅 but they were all delicious and yummy. I loved the tacos, my partner also loved his vegetarian tacos. Some of the best he had. The chips and guacamole were good, I got the pic as we were eating, my bad. They had a cute little band playing, but it wasn’t obnoxiously loud, you could still hear conversation easily. Ordering is similar to swarmi’s. You order at the counter and choose where you’d like to sit. And then a waiter brings your food, same with the drinks. I also had the mezcal flight, highly recommend. Each had its own unique flavor, really good.

Awesome cocktail menu, great service, delicious tacos, enjoyed the appetizers as well, nice indoor ambiance. Came back many times now, get a reservation. Love the trio of vegetarian mole taquitos, and shrimp and squash blossom tacos. Partner loves the carnitas every time! The Mexican Lady, Old Town fashioned and San Elote are good cocktails but house margarita as well.

Great Oaxacan style food and exceptional cocktails. I recommend the quesabirria tacos, croquetas, and ahi tuna tostada. Pass on the pollo pastor taco. The churro s'mores is fun, but not a must. I'm updating my review to 4 stars since they cancelled happy hour until after summer. Sad face!
