One of the best Japanese stores in San Diego. Fresh meats and seafood. Also has hot food and sushi ready to eat. A few shops inside for dishes, toys, accessories, cookware section, cosmetics and shampoos.

Having moved from Tokyo Japan In Sept. 2020 (after living there for 17 years) to San Diego California. At times one, 🤔well me, craves for a bento or a snack that is made in Japan…so I come here to Mitsuwa. I am no stranger to Mitsuwa for I frequently visited one located just outside Chicago in a area called Arlington Heights. Though the one in Kearny Mesa is not as large as that one it still has some of the things that I crave from time to time. There are more branches of the store located throughout California but this one is closer to me. However, in the near future I will visit those as well.

Ever feel like you just need to fly to Japan? LOL okay it’s not exactly the same but Mitsuwa does have a lot of the food comforts! There are so many snacks, actual hot food, pickled plums, and more to choose from! From mochi and fresh onigiri to gluten free Kikkoman Panko, possibilities are endless. You’ll come in thinking you’ll be buying one item or two and end up with a basket full! And you know what? Who cares, because you’re in Japan! LOL anyway, I’m so glad this Japanese grocery store has been around since the late 90s! What a San Diego treasure!

My girls love Mitsuwa! From the Japanese candies and mochi, to the anime store inside of the store...it has become an establishment that we frequent quite often recently, TBH. They also love the coin-operated games when we first enter the store. As a bonus, it is only a few doors down from Book-Off. We can't go to one of those stores without visiting the other on the same shopping trip! Good times!

Good place to buy Japanese ingredients, fresh clean, they rotate stocks so you won’t buy nearly expirations products, if you happen to shop late in the afternoon around 4:00 they reduce the price of sushi items

Also has three very good hot food restaurants. Fresh sushi and bento boxes made daily. I often stop there on my way home to pick up dinner for myself and the family.
