After reading about this famous San Francisco bakery we decided to try it. We ordered a clam chowder soup, which was good. The sourdough bread was fresh and delicious. We also ate a almond croissant, good but nothing super special. Unfortunately, there were out of the animal breads my kids wanted to eat
The food is great, we came for breakfast every day. They got nice coffee and a great selection of breakfast. When ordering the breakfast muffin I was expecting some fast food style bun. But it was a huge portion and super delicious and fresh. The morning bun ist great and so are the waffles. I highly recommend this place.
We sat outside in the sun and there is a little fireplace in the wall.
The bread is great as well and very beautiful and you can watch the bakers from outside making tortoise and teddy bear shaped bread.
Definitely the best place to stop for a bite while at the wharf!
We walked upstairs to the Bistro to enjoy a sit down meal (no wait at all).
We started with the sourdough garlic bread (even though they give you a cone of sourdough bread to snack on). The buttery seasoned flavor or the garlics bread was out of this world!! Absolutely amazing flavor!!!
Then we enjoyed a bowl of tomato bisque (not in bread bowl), a salmon blt, and spicy chicken sandwich.
All of the food was delicious! The tomato bisque was absolutely incredible! The salmon was cooked perfectly- and the spicy chicken was just the right amount of spice without killing the flavor. The view was fantastic.
Definitely recommend taking some time to sit down upstairs and enjoy a nice meal! The sourdough bread really truly something special!!!
Their soup bowls are not just hype; the sourdough bread bowl soup was simply fantastic. My family and I enjoyed the freshly made bread bowl, which had a nice, fluffy top and a crusty, crunchy outside. The clam, tomato, and crab soup had a delightful flavor combination that made perfect sense. However, I do wish they had more vegetarian options beyond just tomato-based soups; adding a mushroom option would be a great idea. The line was quite long, especially on the weekend, but we received our food fairly quickly. The place was buzzing with people, and despite that, I will definitely come back here on my next trip to SFO.
We were at the sit down section at the upper area, it looked busy so glad we made a booking before going. It's definitely a visit if you are a fan of sourdough bread and pizza. We also tried the local favourite clam chowder bowl which was delicious. Lively atmosphere and helpful staff!
Famous Sourdough, manufactured on site, in view of the restaurant. I’ve been here a few times in the past, and the sourdough is always a real treat. It has a fantastic chewy/crunchy crust and the bread structure is tight but fluffy. The soup in bread is always my favourite, but the half:half option with a sandwich is a brilliant option to sample the menu.
There is a quick bite, lower level area with food that is quick. That food was ok. There's an upper area, sit down portion. The food was excellent up here. My kid had cheese pizza, my wife sausage, and I had crab cake sandwich. The pizzas were amazing. The dough was excellent, the sauce was great. My Crab cake sandwich was also very tasty and good.
Going upstairs was totally worth it! A lady that was eating downstairs told me they had to wait in line forever, and she recommended we go upstairs to eat. That was a great decision! We had amazing food, got away from the chaos, and had Oyster shooters while looking out the large windows towards the street and red and white fleet! We ate here while waiting for our cruise. Great food, atmosphere, and restaurant all around. Loved it!
This place is amazing. We ate on the balcony upstairs, looking at the water. Great atmosphere on a picture perfect day. We were on the road for business and stopped to see some sites on the way, and we are glad we did.
I had the spicy chicken sandwich and fries. Nice spice, good sandwich and excellent fries. The habanero dressing is great.
My honey had the spinach artichoke dip, and she loved it.
Our friend had the bread bowl of chowder, and let’s just say he didn’t leave anything.
They start you out with their famous sourdough bread, and I’m telling you, that stuff is addictive.
If you’re in the area, don’t skip this place.
Boudin Bakery is probably the most famous bakery in the country thanks to their sourdough bread. They create a wonderful crisp bread that is as good as any other you'll have. They also offer other breads like croissants but you're not here for that. The sourdough can be eaten on its own, as a pizza base, in a sandwich, or as a soup bowl base. Seriously, order as much bread as possible. Prices on the menu will you about $12 for an entrée. Staff is nice but this is an incredibly busy and popular bakery so expect a line and wait.
The sourdough is to die for. Perfect texture and taste even for first timer like me. The chowders however tasted a bit too “out of the can” for me. They even sell cans of the chowders in the store. For muslims, this chowder is one of the few places that do not put bacon in it so should be halal. But will not get the taste of “original” chowder. The ambiance is perfect for a weekend breakfast or gatherings with friends. The aroma of bakery and fresh coffee really makes a perfect background to a perfect morning with your loved ones. There is a also viewglass on the side of the place where you can see how they make the bread.
After a long day of touring Muir Woods and Sausalito this lovely dinner really hit the spot. Had already had the chowder/bread bowl meal earlier so opted for seafood which was very fresh and well presented, and also very tasty! As someone who is actually not a massive sourdough fan it was good to have other options. For those who love sourdough, this is the place to be!
Located on the water, you can smell the amazing cuisine waiting on you. Service was fast and pleasant and be sure to pick up bread on the way out.

That being said, I travel a bit and the public bathroom in the area that you have to use, is absolutely horrible. The city should do better.
We shared a clam chowder outside on the patio. It was very good. You have 2 seating/eating options here. The cafe/outside patio or a restaurant upstairs. The cafe menu is smaller but perfect for lunch. You can skip the lines by ordering at the self-serve kiosk.
Sat in the restaurant upstairs which was nice and not as crazy busy as downstairs. Bread bowl clam chowder, pizza, and free bread basket with butter. Soup was quite good although I wish there was a bigger serving of soup for the price (didn’t eat the bread bowl).
This is such a large busy restaurant, with a queue of diners waiting to get the much hyped about clam chowder.
So it comes at quite a surprise that despite the high volume with many tourists visiting, they serve a deliciously fresh sourdough with a the best clam chowder that I’ve ever had. Boudin is keeping up with their hype. Its definitely a must visit when in SF.
We came across Boudin Bakery as strolling in Fisherman’s Wharf. The bakery items especially the sour dough breads were super fresh and tasty. Also, got to try the popular clam chowder in a sourdough bowl, which was delicious. The atmosphere was vibrant and cozy too.
