Authentic Mexican Taqueria with Delicious Vegetarian Tacos and Aguas Frescas!
I ate at Pancho Villa Taqueria for lunch on my first day in San Francisco shortly after arriving on July 28th and LOVED it!
Pancho Villa is a casual, cafeteria-style Mexican taqueria located on 16th Street between Valencia and Mission Streets in the Mission District. You order along an assembly line and choose your taco ingredients and toppings as you walk along the glass counter to the cash register. The large menu with a variety of traditional Mexican meals and dishes is situated on the wall behind the counter.
I ordered the super vegetarian tacos and they tasted very authentic and absolutely delicious!
The tacos were loaded with toppings including cheese, guacamole, sour cream, rice, black beans, lettuce, tomatoes and onions (the staff were generous with their servings of each ingredient) and I also received a small complimentary order of tortilla chips and salsa, as a starter. The fresh and fruity aguas frescas juices were also very tasty and refreshing. The prices were very reasonable and inexpensive.
There was also a large salsa bar with a great selection of various sauces and toppings for the tacos.
Pancho Villa was busy with lots of people and there was a line-up but it moved fairly quickly and the tacos were well worth the wait! The staff were also friendly and the service was efficient.
This is an excellent place to eat an inexpensive and authentic Mexican meal in San Francisco’s Mission District!
Some of the best Mexican food I've ever found in the Mission . I've been going here as long as I can remember . I usually go for 🌮 taco happy hour, from 3 to 5 and I get 2 super tacos and for me that's a meal . BTW , they have an award-winning variety of salsas that are the BEST !
Authentic Mexican food, reasonable prices, super fresh....soooo good with the best salsa bar! Busy place and not the easiest parking but well worth the trip :)
The best authentic Mexican food in the mission. Great big spacious place
I have loved this place for years!! Definitely worth trying..you won't be disappointed!!

Ok, found this place for their afternoon happy hour of DISCOUNTED tacos. I tried SIX different tacos (each a different meat) for like $16. Agua Frescas also discounted, got chips/salsas for free. My wife tried a burrito.
NOT only was everything well priced, it was ABSOLUTELY delicious. The winning meat for me was the chorizo - nicely spiced and chopped fine and grilled to a crispy consistency.
All was great and happy to come back!
My burrito was VERY delicious and the salsas were super flavorful, especially the green one. We got a ton of food for the price. Definitely an iconic, no frills place for a Mission-style burrito.
Only downside is that the service is a bit unorganized. It took a while for us to get our food and we had to go back up to the counter to get our chips that came with our meal.
Rebel Lover is My daughter. Together we drove from Missouri to dine at Pancho Villa’s Restaurant. Thank you for making her memories. Delicious combination plate. Artistic and delicious! Wonderful flavors, colors, and the best atmosphere in San Francisco for energy behind the food. We got to see how the dishes were cooked and prepared. Lessons learned from a cuisine class. Fabulous. Thank you, Rebel’s Dad
I’ve been trying many burritos 🌯 in SF but most of the flour tortillas of 🌯🌯 are too thick and dry. By chance, finally I found the best burritos in Mission!
I ordered vegan and chicken burritos respectively. It was delicious, really authentic. Reasonable prices. Good and friendly services. Restaurant is spacious.
Highly recommended. Definitely will come back again.
Nice clean place with FAST preparation of quality food. I had the Veggie Burrito with black beans. Low calorie and it hit the spot! I could justify two trays of free tortilla chips ☹️.
I sat down and the staff brought the food to my table. And offered me extra chips. Plus refilled my water.
Ten people working means fast and good.
Total price? $10.
Ate here a few weeks ago, and went in during their happy hour. Their agua frescas are super awesome! And I had one of their burritos. I tried ordering the spicy version of the beans, but I was warned three times that they were spicy. I detected little to no spiciness in the burrito, so I don't know that they actually gave me the spicy version. Regardless, their spicier salsas made up for it and gave a nice tasteful burn. I might go back if I'm ever in the area again.
Won a awards at many California state fairs and once voted best taqueria by San Francisco magazine. We got our tacos to-go as it was very busy inside. The employees were a little gruff but the service was relatively quick. I got a tofu taco and vegetables taco with black beans. The taco is really two tacos because they used double corn tortillas to wrap the massive heap of tofu, beans, and vegetables. The bang-for-buck is high here. Taste-wise it was pretty good: the flavors are what you expect from an authentic casual Mexican eatery. I wouldn’t call it the best taqueria in SF but it’s up there.
I loved the food, heavenly. Clean, spacious and quick service. We got shrimp taco, beef taco, didn’t like the shrimp taco as much, as it had some kind of white sauce which didn’t agree with my pallet, the beef was on point. Also had shrimp n beef quesadilla - awweesome! Highly recommend if you are in the area.
I ate as super burrito that almost knocked me unconscious. It was absolutely huge and really good. The place is nothing fancy but people don’t go there for the glamour. Service was fast, price was good (12 dollars for the super burrito which he everything).
This is one of my favorite mexican food restaurants in the city. Definitely worth checking out!! The only set back is the service could be quicker. They also have 'Happy Hour' monday-friday from 3pm-5pm where they serve $1.50 tacos and $3.00 beers which is awesome.
First of all do you know of anyplace that still has $1 street tacos? Seems like all the kids from schools in the area know to eat here. Hands down the best Mexican chicken ceaser I've ever had. The dressing is heaven. The first time I've ever said this salad has too much yummy chicken, which I did not think was possible. Somehow with the yummy dressing I ate all of it. Brother had the birra, melt in mouth delicious.
It's alright. They're really nice ,there and are kinda commercialized/authentic both. It's good but their carne asada is bland. It doesn't have that barbequey backyard flavor, southern California's Carne asada burritos have. I think that's what I'm missing here.
Top notch food.
Many choices in terms of items and how you like them... types of beans, salsa, etc.
Room to get around if you use mobility aid.
Not sure about bathroom. Didn't use.
