As always the food, service and atmosphere were the best. This place has been opened since 1968, and I have been going since 1978. It is good to see some of the original employees still there, and I enjoy a good family style restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant!

I had the linguini basilico, one of my favorite Italian dishes, and they didn’t let me down. The wait staff was on point. Our waiter keyed off our energy and was great fun. The food was plentiful and magnificent! Wine is served in Old Fashioned glasses but it made me laugh. Love everything here.

This is a must place to eat in The Castro in San Francisco. I've eaten there every time I visit SF. Everything on the menu is fantastic with nice portions. Can't wait to return.

I've been a regular here since I arrived in San Francisco in 1977 and just stopped in again with friends from out of town who all agreed they serve the best Italian dishes at reasonable prices (we had various veal dishes (parmigiana, saltimbaca, etc.). I was personally touched to be greeted by Ray and Oscar as an old friend - I've known them here forty years and it's more than special to be growing old(er) with people like them still in the Castro! And they are preparing for their 50th Anniversary!!

Excellent food. Extremely friendly service! Prices can’t be beat for the quality of food. We spent 30% more the night before at a TERRIBLE place at Pier 39. Should have just come here 2 nights in a row

Walk all day, skip lunch, and then dive into the Sausage Factory. They'll need to roll you out when it is all done, but you'll be happy you erased all those burned calories. Yum-o

Wife and I were wasted and needed food. I recall they gave us each a side salad even though we ordered only one side salad. Pasta was good!

Due to economic times they were forced to open for evening hours but I love this place. Good food and great clientele....

A perfect 10/10! The service and food were amazing. I ordered the spaghetti carbonara and was thoroughly satisfied, though the generous portions left me unable to finish the dish.

I recently dined at the "Sausage Factory" restaurant, and I must say, I was impressed with their generous portions of food. The restaurant certainly understands the importance of satisfying hungry appetites. Whether you're a hearty eater or simply craving a substantial meal, the "Sausage Factory" delivers.

OK, I started going there way back in the 80s, and continued doing so until about 2002, when I moved out of California ( Thank God ). Well, I had to go back to SF last week for a funeral. I decided for old time's sake to go back to my favorite restaurant.... It was great to know that this place STILL serves great food. I have to admit though that eating there kind of made me sad, as it brought back memories of friends who are no longer around... Oh well. And as much as the Castro continues to change, and restaurants come and go, it's great to know that this gem of a restaurant is still going strong.

Come on, a restaurant in the Castro district of San Francisco with the name “The Sausage Factory” has got to get a few giggles from the chronically immature like me. I was passing through town on my way to Portland and decided to meet up with an ex boyfriend after 25+ years. We knew we wanted Castro district so our first choice was The Anchor Oyster Bar, but it was closed due to Covid 19 so then we went to Hamburger Mary’s which was also closed. I didn’t have Italian on my mind, but I’m glad we ended up at The Sausage Factory. The food was excellent and it has an antique charm that makes it truly unique. After telling some of my friends in the city about it they all sort of responded with”Oh that place. It hasn’t changed much in 40 years.” Well, guess what? If something’s good, why change it? We started with mussels in a garlic sauce that were out of this world. Not exactly sure what was in the sauce to make it green, but I loved it so much I took a spoon to it after all the mussels and toasted garlic bread were gone. I was going to get the puttanesca, but I always get puttanesca at authentic Italian restaurants so I went with the chicken piccata. I was not disappointed. The lemon-caper sauce had just the right amount of tang and the chicken was so tender, there was no need to use a knife. My ex had the pasta primavera served with an alfredo sauce which looked awesome, but I didn’t try it. He said it was good, but couldn’t finish it because he was full. I, of course, never stop until it’s all gone if I think it’s good; full or not. Maybe that’s just another difference between him and me. Sigh. Everything about it was delightful. The server and food runner were very upbeat, fun, and efficient, and the food was great. If you’re in the Castro and want good, authentic Italian cuisine, go to The Sausage Factory.

A good place for dinner but it really needs a bar I think they only serve wine and beer
