I used to go often to Basil 10 years ago, but I moved out of town, and missed its food. I'm back in San Francisco, and went there yesterday to check it out. The food continues to be great, and the service awesome. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Love the food and place....Superb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We were recommended to the basil restaurant by our concierge at the hotel whitcomb on market street as we were visiting from London & wanted to find a nice Thai restaurant for my sisters 25th birthday & we had the yellow Thai curry with jasmine rice it was truly the best Thai curry I think we have ever had we both enjoyed it so much I would definately go back if we visit San Francisco again! I will say we did try the basil canteen the sister restaurant on our last day & although the atmosphere was better the food & service was nowhere near as good we had to ask 3 times for a glass of water & our curry was disappointing when compared! :)
The food was AMAZING !!! Would recommend to anyone ...
The Best Thai food in San Francisco. The food was excellent and the service was great!!
"Nice Restaurant&Delicious Foods Too" ;-)
Excellent food and service.
Basil Thai is always a nice place to retreat to have some savory Thai food and some drinks and relax. This is exactly what I did with two friends recently and we really enjoyed ourselves.
The ambience is conducive to relaxation as well as having a conversation. There is a bustle, however, as the staff bring out the various dishes. There is plenty to choose from for the omnivores as well as the vegetarians. They also have a full bar and serve beer and wine.
Street parking is hit or miss in the area but the restaurant is not far from BART or MUNI.
I highly recommend Basil Thai for a good meal.
Awesome!. This little thai restaurant completely exceeded our expectations! We LOVED it! The food was all so delicious with very generous portions and so inexpensive. We went for Friday night dinner date night and only spent $30 for the two of us! Granted we were having drinks this night, but still.
We will be back again whenever we are craving thai and are in the area. I wish this was in my neighborhood!
Really, really great Thai. I've been here twice, two years apart. Wondered if the first time was a fluke or just an over-fond memory. But no, this place is "that good" - the subtleties of flavor are what makes great vs good Thai, and this place has a perfect balance. ... Lunch special is a great deal (2 small entrees + spring roll).
Thai..I LOVE Thai now!. I never had Thai before moving to San Fran, (from the East Coast, Massachusetts). This was my 2nd place I found that I absolutely love the food, and I am a picky eater. Great food, close to my place, great service. I go as often as I can (at least once a month).
An exceptional Thai dining experience in San Francisco! This restaurant offers the convenience of reservations, ensuring prompt seating upon arrival. While metered street parking might be challenging during peak hours, visiting during the evening proved hassle-free, with complimentary parking available.
Upon entering, the restaurant had a few vacant tables, yet the ambiance remained vibrant and inviting. Our meal consisted of the following dishes:
Pad Se-Ew - A personal favorite, the Pad Se-Ew here was truly outstanding! Bursting with flavor, it struck the perfect balance without being overly salty. I opted for pork, but any protein would pair well with this classic dish.
Gaeng Gari - A must-have for me at any Thai eatery, their yellow curry was utterly delectable! Served with half a chicken, some bones may be present, so exercise caution while savoring the dish.
I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment and eagerly anticipate my return!
Five stars for the seafood noodles, super umami broth (on the sweeter side) and lots of fresh seafood.
Three stars for the crab fried rice. Very bland and too healthy (low oil) even for my taste!
The amount of the food is really good in releation with price. We ordered 4 plates and drinks and it was less than 85 dlls. Thai tea is delicious. The duck was so great. The restaurant is quiet and the menu offers plenty options. Is near from civic center (SF). Our only suggestion is about service, we think they were focus in Serving instead of attending the tables. Basil is a fancy and clean place to eat with affordable prices.
The food was good and the Covid restrictions that were set felt reassuring. My only minor wish was that there would be a little more portion servings on the plate. I just felt like the plate was bigger than the actual size of the serving. The amount of shrimp was fine maybe a little more noodles would be my only suggestion. Overall it's a nice place to visit when in the city.
This place has good Thai food and reservations/tables can be available without much of wait time. Really liked their spring rolls - well made crispy rolls.
Our visit to Basil was quite the culinary journey. Beyond the usual offerings found at any other Thai restaurants around, this place serves dishes that break the mold. The Green Curry Roti-Taco was great, and the Larb Gai was an explosion of flavors - the perfect balance of sweet and salty. The classic Tom Kha with chicken, while good, felt like it missed a subtle note. Cheun Yaw and grilled corn were average, nothing too memorable.
On the cocktail front, the Sake Leche presented an unusual yet intriguing flavor, while the Berry Tequila was a hit, brimming with deliciousness.
Overall, Basil offers authentic Thai at a reasonable price, accompanied by a noteworthy drink list.
I'll definitely be returning, with that Larb Gai and Berry Tequila on my mind.
Just go. Food: I’m not sure what they do to the spring rolls, but they are without a doubt the best spring rolls I’ve tasted. Crunchy, sweet and savory. Untraditionally served with lettuce, sprigs of mint and cilantro, and a delicious sauce I couldn’t help drizzling on the corn cakes. The greens and the vegetables cooked perfectly and not overdone. I recommend the Thai-phoon, a Thai iced tea cocktail with coconut milk that doesn’t taste very alcoholic. Service: Decent. Space: Trendy and spacious. The outside patio is unheated. The restaurant was only 20% full at 7:30, but filled out to about 50% by 8:30 pm.
literally nothing better on the planet than good thai food, and this was GREAT thai food!! the pad thai was everything you could ever want or need or hope for, and i would absolutely recommend it. they also have tons of incredible and unique cocktails, including the thai-phoon which was a spiked thai tea.
i loved it here! the vibe inside is so cute, the service was fast, and the food was truly incredible and delicious. highly recommend!
Amazing and flavorful Thailandic food. The appetizers arrived fast and flavorful. The entrees were vibrant and delicious. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive.
Came here after an exhausting day concert in SoMa. Amazing fresh food. Some of the best green curry I've had in a long time. Pineapple fried rice was a perfect compliment. The restaurant was really packed for a Sunday night, and we still got quick service. Would definitely visit again soon. Also, we did the dumplings and satay as an appetizer, satay is a must try!
The mussamun neur was so delicious!!!! Loved it!! I would eat it every single time!! The rice!! The gravy!! Perfect dish!!
This is my neighborhood Thai place. It's very good. Lots of options and unique dishes. Great starters selection too.
